From The Update

Ok, and I say this with the utmost respect, but does anyone know how Maj. Gen. Gene LaCoste is a "9/11 survivor"? And what exactly is the criteria? I did a quick Google search and came across this article that states, "Brig. Gen. Gene M. LaCoste, and Brig. Gen. Harry B. Axson, director of military personnel management, were traveling and not in their Pentagon offices at the time of the attack."

I had a similar question mark form over my head after reading that. I thought "Aren't we all survivors of 9/11?" I wasn't in the Pentagon either when the attack occurred

He would be a survivor because he was not in his office at the time. If he had of been in his office, he would have been a casualty. I don't believe as a M.G. he would represent himself as one that was there but yet one that had information about what others went through and what the devistation was truly like since he was able to be on site and assess the damage and assist in other ways. Just a thought.

Why don't you just go listen to the man speak before you begin making judgements! Good grief, people!

Well, this is Decatur, it's not like they are going to get someone who got out of the building at the last moment... Decatur.

Ditto 8:54.

Since the Veterans Park is a good walk for you, it would behoove you to check it out before you downgrade a General.

Especially, since he DOES LIVE in Alvord--is that the problem?

Perhaps, after you visit the park and hear the speakers, your attitude may change. In what branch of the service did you serve, hummmmmmmmm?

I am a survivor of Hitler's invasion into France, the Battle of the Bulge, the Korean War, 'Nam, Grenada, Gulf I, Gulf II, and the Cowboys' Practice Facility collapse. Seriously--I wasn't injured or killed in any of those events.

We're all survivors of 9-11...the country needs to get over it and move on.

I made the first comment here, and you can find my name on a brick at the veterans' park. As BG said, no disrespect intended, but the blurb in the WCM was worded in a vaguely strange manner
My attitude is just fine and does not need adjusting

I'm a survivor of 5 failed marriages so somebody top that.

Then I guess we're all survivors of all hurricanes, tornadoes, storms of any kind, attacks by invaders into other people's homes, each and all automobile accidents, fires, etc.

You folks kill me. Certainly you jest, or do you really not KNOW what is meant by saying one is a "survivor" of an event!??

The memorial service at the park today will be one to remember, but only if you attend.

You are a complete jackass! Our nation was attacked. We are not going to "get over it and move on"

Anonymous said...

I wouldn't attend if you paid me to go...waste of valuable time.

Why don't you go and ask him.

9:54, not to worry, you won't be missed.

What's up with the lack of hot chicks this week? Are you spending too much time on the Law and not enough on the internet?

Oh goody! Let’s keep riding that train around in circles every year on 9/11.

I bet if you pulled up BG’s 9/11 Anniversary posts for the last 8 years you’d see the same posts/arguments over and over and over and over………

Anonymous said...

Oh, but we're supposed to keep on rehashing old news year after year according to 9:53. I think you are in the minority here.

Anonymous said...

10:32

I am proud to be the minority here!

If you people can't take one day a year out of your miserable life to remember what happened that day then you are a selfish hateful person that has no respect for the loss of life!

In my mind a "9/11 survivor" would be someone who was in one of the three buildings and got out with their lives.

Am I wrong?

Anonymous said...

BG,
Whenever you say, "I say this with the utmost respect", it completely sounds like you are saying, I am ignorant and rude.

Its good to see that 9/11 has brought us all that much closer together. Nothing strenghthens a nation's resolve and disproves religous fundamentalism better than the diplay of unity going on here.*

*Cue "Proud to be an American" and fireworks.

Did i survive the Civil War???

If you forget 9-11 happened and move on, you, my friend, will in part, be responsible for it the next time it happens. There will be a "next time" if everyone forget's it and moves on.

Oh, ok, 11:26...what an idiot you must be.

Anonymous said...

I survived having Sex w/ a chunky girl from Decatur...do they need me to give a speech

Anonymous said...

11:26 -- AMEN!

Anonymous said...

I survived the week....

Anonymous said...

Get over it? Tell that to the United and AA employees who lost homes, family members, and suffered lengthy layoffs. Never forget 9-11...pay them back 24/7!
Thank You Todd Beamer.

You people amaze me in your ability to give a damn! It's just not in me. I actually have a life outside of events of 10 years ago!

Anonymous said...

God Bless all of you that you have the freedom to write on this blog because someone did not FORGET to stand up for your freedoms. I know that sounds corny....but it is true. Just take time to remember how you felt that day...that hour...the days after....No matter who you are or what you think it was a MOMENT IN HISTORY and it means something. Please do not trample it with craziness.

Did anyone survive the latest speech?

i am a survivor of 3 marriages and several rental units... does that count?

Anonymous said...

every time i think of 9/11 i wonder how many other countries the US has done the same thing to

Anonymous said...

1:01 you do have a life after ten years ago because you live in the greatest country in the world and it is because of the great people who defend this country and you should be grateful for that. If you want to continue to be a selfish, ungrateful, biased moron why don't you just pack your bags and move to the mountains of Afghanistan, maybe you'd feel more at home there. I'm sure there is a cave available for you to live in...maybe you could be a neighbor to Bin Laden and you can thank him then. Bon Voyage!

To all you get over it people -- just remember you live in a county that still fighting the civil war. Rebel Yell!!! You idiots.

I am confused!
If someone misrepresents the truth is it okay to say:
"you lie" or would it be better to sit back and take it.

Why would remembering 9/11 be such a hot button issue? If you want to move on, then move on. If you want to have a memorial service, then have one. Why lambaste each other over it?

I think Barry was just trying to point out that maybe the messupper article was misrepresenting the General.

I think that the General misrepresents himself. Unfortunately, just because he was a general doesn't mean that he has integrity.
