Random Thoughts: Special Football Edition (Since No One Will Read It)

The gates of the Underworld open for UT's first game
  • I hate it that Oklahoma has lost QB Sam Bradford for what might be a few weeks. I want every team to be at full strength.
  • And with Oklahoma's loss to BYU, the Texas/OU game has just been diminished beyond belief. What would have been #2 vs. #3 is now not even close to that.
  • And despite Texas fans being giddy over OU's loss, it really means nothing to the Longhorns. They better continue to win.
  • How in the world can Texas Tech just stick another quarterback into that system with tremendous results? Taylor Potts starts his first game and throws for 405 yards in Tech's win over North Dakota. Wait. North Dakota?
  • The Aggies manhandled New Mexico which some will say is no big deal. I think it's huge. They rolled up 606 total yards of total offense. Last year, they could have lost that game.
  • TCU is crazy for not scheduling a game on opening weekend.
  • Pro note: Tila Tequila says that her boyfriend, San Diego star linebacker Shawne Merriman, assaulted her. I'd use the insanity defense with proof being that he dates Tila Tequila.
  • Pro note #2: Man, I love HBO's Hard Knocks.
  • I saw that "Peyton Manning will give $1 million to Tennessee for a new athletic training facility." Really? How much of a training facility will that buy?
  • SMU was horrible as they escaped with a win over Stephen F. Austin.
  • Media note: The Dallas Morning News' article on Baylor's game was the same article that appeared in the Waco Tribune Herald. There's a lot of sharing going on these days.
  • Most big time schools won't play anyone worth a dang for their non-conference games. But there's really no reason to. What would Texas have to gain by playing Georgia, for example? They played a directional school and will still wake up as #2 this morning.
  • I really thought Oklahoma State would lose to Georgia. I think it's because I just wish failure on T. Boone Pickens.
  • Baylor wore white helmets with a interlocking green "B" and "U" on the side. I hate that. No respectable program ever changes its helmets. You think Texas, Michigan, or USC are going to change?
  • Edit: "The truth of the matter is ... somebody is going to die here in the NFL. It's going to happen.''- Carson Palmer of the Cincinnati Bengals. I believe that. And it may even happen at the college level. The helmet to helmet hits on downfield receivers is shocking (and illegal, but that doesn't stop it.)
  • Edit: There's a high school football game going on at Cowboys Stadium this morning. That kid has a lot of hair for Euless Trinity.
  • Edit: I didn't know that UT set an all time attendance record with 101,096.
  • I digress: Jerry Lewis is crazy. At 8:13 a.m. he just told Cathy Rigby that the telethon earned $15,000 last year from "three men in Florida who sold marijuana."

And you've only now figured out Jerry Lewis is crazy? He's also an A--hole.

What's up with the broken horn on the first player's helmet?

I'm a Texas fan and think your caption is hilarious.

I can't stand OU and hate that they lost Bradford. I'm thrilled they got beat but wish they didn't have the loss before playing Texas.

I'm glad OSU beat Georgia because it makes the Big 12 a bit more fun. TBoone is a bit eccentric but he's an Okie so what do you expect?

Baylor should have changed everything. If Texas, Michigan and USC can't win a game against Joe's Barber College for 6 years, they should change it all. If nothing else, a new look would give them something to talk about. Hopefully, the new look will soon be replaced by talk of the QB and some wins...until they play Texas.

$1 million will buy a lot more than $0 will buy. Don't knock a good start...few of us ever get one.

Peyton Manning is a great guy. When he makes the news it's because he's giving $1M to his old school. You'd never see a story about him with Tila Tequila or Jessica Simpson.

Baylor isn't Texas, Michigan, USC or any respectable program. The white helmet deal is something new. Turning a new chapter Baylor Football tradition. I agree with that...

That helmet looks like someone stretched it out instead of sawing it off.

That's been going on since the 70's. Watch Jack Tatum's hit on Earl Campbell at the goal line - if no one died from that, it's not going to happen. Watch one of the Raider's DB's (think it was Tatum again, but may have been Atkinson) lay out Sammy White of the Vikings in their Super Bowl - dude was lucky his head wasn't still in the helmet that came rolling off, and he hung on to the ball to boot. Yeah, Georgia's DB lit up Dez Bryant, but he had a hell'uva game anyway. And, I could cite you other examples ad nauseum - you will see players get paralyzed once in a blue moon as the hit or landing impinges or damages a nerve in the spinal/neck area, but other than that, no death.

However, once Obama and the liberals get done with the pussyfying of the American male, you may see some deaths as some of these males will still try to continue playing football and get hit by the ones that haven't succumbed to the indoctrination. (Unless we have moved to flag football rules by that time).

I'd suggest season tickets to Baylor's soccer team until they change the rules if it's too much for you to stomach.

I like your football posts. Keep it up. We don't have the numbers that the Obama-haters do, but we are passionate about our football.

(and I personally have tired of reading those Obama posts that make me fear for my country, as well as my president.)

UT is a great program. They should be national title contenders every single year!! With all that talent year after year. I guess I pity any other fan of college football in Texas, because they dont have that to look forward to every year. Especially Baylor. TCU should have been in the Big 12..Who decided on Baylor?? They belong in the WAC or Sunbelt with North Texas.
