I Can't Resist

Hey, I'm sick of this Should-Schools-Broadcast-The-Obama-Speech controversy as much as you are, but I had a stop down moment this morning. I tuned over to the always awful Fox and Friends morning show and noticed they were about to interview a "father and son in Texas" where the dad is keeping his son out of school on the day of the speech. Then I quickly took this shot of my television. That's the kid on the left, by the way. Good grief. The son is sportin' a mustache but dad doesn't want him to hear Obama? But at least dad was honest about his reasoning: "I don't trust the man," he said.

They both look about half retarded.

A president cannot lose trust. When Obama told us we will not lose health care benefits but cut $500 billion for seniors, he loses trust among grandparents of school children. When we find out his friends are ex-terrorist Bill Ayers, PLO apologist Raphid Kladide and racists incider Rev. Jeremiah Wright, people have reason to mistrust Obama judgement.

When a present introduces policies to makeover of the American system in his own image, tea parties are organized because Obama has lost trust with the people.

So why can't parents decide for their children by asking for a hall pass and not give a preseident access to their children? It does not seem unreasonable or silly if there is not trust.

But isn't the speech for elementary age kids? This kid looks like he's in college.

What is up with Dad's tie?? Looks like he's got the demons on

Never trust a kid with a moustache. Especially if they are in elementary schools.

One father got it right when he said, "On paper it looks all right, but it just doesn't pass the smell test."

The "suggested activities" sent to schools include questions such as:
* Why does President Obama want to speak with us today?
* How will he inspire us?
* How will he challenge us?
* What might he say?
Not so bad until you put it into context; an original suggested activity for students had them drafting a letter detailing "what they can do to help the president." Barack Obama himeself seems to be a focus of much of the suggested discussion, as much as education, hard work, etc.

Put all of that alongside the "I pledge" video (and the weird “[I pledge] to be a servant to our president,” (Demi Moore) and “[I pledge] to be of service to Barack Obama,” (Anthony Kiedis) and the picture emerges of a calculated strategy to surreptitiously bestow sovereignty onto a single individual.

In that light, the fact that there are questions about Barack Obama himself in the accompanying materials has the odor of a man insinuating to school children that he is the message. When such a pattern begins to emerge (as it has,) it's not irrational to be concerned.

It would be a cold day in hell before someone forced my child to listen to any lying, thieving piece of shit; I don't care if he's a politician or snake oil salesman!

I would include George W. Bush in this group as well!

That kid is obviously too young to think for himself.

Anonymous said...

When I was that age, I had already formed my own opinions. If I were that kid, I'd tell my dad to f&@k off.

Anonymous said...

Hitler was in charge and he wanted the kids to listen to him too. Wonder if parents back then unquestioningly took their children to listen to Hitler? I'm sure he spoke only on what he felt was best for them! Right? I mean, hey, if the man is a leader, well then anything and everything he says MUST be just hunky dory and we should all bow down, kiss his feet and pledge to obey Obama!
To hell with pledging our loyaly to our coutry! Let's make a new national anthem about Obama and sing it at the ballgames! Ok? How's that sound?

coutry = country. sorry!

How times have changed!

1960, DISD turned out classes to see then candidate LBJ speak at the Armory.

How times have changed!

Just a few years ago no one would have thought about referring to a president as Mr. Crane did.

How times have changed!

We matched what the evening news said with what our daily paper said
Made a judgement. Now we choose both a channel and our reading paper to match our prejudices..make no decision, just follow like lemmings.

From the beginning I thought the nutters were silly.

Having just read Obama's speech he will give tomorrow.......I'm sure of it.

Not a single thought I wouldn't want my kids to hear........more imortantly backed up by his own experience.

Oh America?

Okay, I just read the text of the speech, and it's okay. For example: "The story of America isn’t about people who quit when things got tough. It’s about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best.

"It’s the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon."

My gosh, every time Obama wants to impress Americans he talks like a Conservative.

Denney Crane said...

Am I the only person that has noticed the President's "lesson plan" has changed from 0bama promotion to student self promotion?

Why do you think they waited until today to release his speech? ANSWER: To see how the American people responded. Earth to children: he is testing our boundaries!

Why would I want my kid to write the President a letter telling him what he could do to help the President, when all I want is his a$$ out of office?

Did you watch the charismatic communicator today on TV preach to the AFL-CIO? His words are the complete opposite his actions.

He has desecrated the US Constitution and declared war on the American people! He has endorsed infanticide and partial birth abortion. He has partnered with organized crime through labor unions. He has bypassed Congress using Czars (without even disguising the name “Czar”). He has, with the help of G.W. Bush & Congress, fleeced the American taxpayer through TARP and Stimulus.

The only reason our economy is stabilizing is due to the resistance to his reformation...

Hell, now that the ride is becoming bumpy, even Rahm is bailing on him.

LBJ... what a warmonger!

Now that I'm on a roll, I will have to write about it on my inferior, misinformation-ridden blog...

Denney Crane said...

I'm a lemming because I don't follow or support my President's policies?

If so, I'm a purebred...

I remember when people protested Vietnam. At the time it was unAmerican; but history has shown they were right to protest, even though they made some mistakes! I guess they were lemmings too...

I don't get this pants wad about the speech.

For heaven's sake, find a website and read the thing FIRST and see what it contains.

Other Presidents have spoken to our school children.

We are judging Obama before he even gives the talk.

Anonymous said...

O my gosh!......WORDY says the speech is ok and so does Newtie Gingrich.

Happy Days!

Anonymous said...

Mr Crane,

I fear far more damage to America will be done by you (and your tribe) and your blog than any speech for Obama.

Intolerance, hate, vitriol these were the springboards for the likes of John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald and Sirhan and King's killer.

I absolutley must defend your right to speak, and I absolutley know that most will recognize it as what it is.........but out there on the frige is some nutjob with a rifle, bomb, etc.

Surely there is a way to express the thought without the hate!

wordkyle said...

356 - Oh, don't misunderstand me, everything Obama does has a slight aroma to it, and this speech is no exception. The context is just a little tainted. (See my earlier comments.) Obama's like a man with bad hygiene wearing new clothes -- he looks all right but smells vaguely wrong, He'll have to clean up his act quite a bit to be smell-free.

Time for a little TV

Every speech has a message

It is time for everyone to search their hearts to determine what they can do to help our President

Isn't that what it is all about?

Denney Crane said...

Am I on the same fringe as the Sarah Palin haters? Or maybe the Bush haters? Or even the Christian haters maybe?

How about that fringe WIlliam Ayers hails from? You said bomb, right?

I aspire to be on the same fringe as those who held the original Boston tea party. Government imposing it's will on people will always end the same.

I don't hate our President; but I do hate when he lies to the American people, when he apologizes to the world for America's past influence, when he talks jobs and sends them overseas...

What is so sad, is that he is very smart and knows exactly what he's doing... and it's not for the benefit of average Americans... it's redistribution... of money, rights and freedoms!

0bamabots, I am the least of your worries...

I am an educator in the DISD and I will for sure use this as a teachable moment.....to teach the students about the importance of agreeing to disagree. From what I know first hand, the speech is designed to remind the students of the importance of them taking responsibility for their education and staying in school. I think it's important for students to hear advice such as this because they do not always get this from home. I can't figure out why so many parents are so terrified of this. Didn't George Bush Sr. do the same thing back in 1989? Was there all this hoopla back then? I wonder why a man of Obama's character is being questioned by so many? If the country is in bad shape, it's not because of the people trying to make it better, it's because of ignorant people with a mean spirit and no concept of the world in which we are now part of.....just a thought...

Anonymous said...

Wordie, you are a potential writer that has a a bit of a stink to your words.........you smell a bit wrong, in some of your posts.......

You, too, will have to clean up YOUR act to smell good too.

It may take a while, depending upon your age, dearie.

And, as an old woman, trust me, it is a lifetime pursuit.

731 - Thanks for your opinion, granny. Depending on your age and continence, hon, it may not be my words you smell. (I'm somewhat contrite at resorting to potty humor, but not enough to remove the remark.)

727 - Shall we start a discussion about Obama's character? I can point to lots of evidence that casts doubts about it -- how much can you cite that illustrates the good character you claim for him? (And "at least he's not George Bush" doesn't count.)

Would we be able to point (your word) - to any evidence that could cast doubt that you have always been a model citizen?

You can dish it out.

Can you take it?

The speech hasn't even been spoken yet and look at all the losers on here that have already disrecpected the speech and what MIGHT be said.

I remember wordkyle saying he read the topic of the speech but that the president might lie about the topic because he has been known to lie.

Whatever, Word, there is no way to respong to a "what if ?" like that. But when he does deliver the speech he said he is going to deliver, I'm sure you will own up to you incorrect prediction and apologize and admit you were wrong, right? You will admit that you were spreading false accusation about a speech that had not even been spoken, right? - Because That does not pass your own "smell test".

Oh I can hear it now - "he used himself as an example." Ooh that's just bad, right? - No one does that in a speech - apply his own experiences to a message?
Truly I can't find anything in the speech you loonies can attack as something school kids shouldn't hear, so I am thinking you will have to go that route. WEAK, very WEAK, even WRONG - but no way you could eat your words and say, "Hey, there was nothing wrong with that speech. It may have done some good for some kid listening that's strugglin."

In large parts of the country, today is the first day of school, and the speech is a great message for that, coming from someone who made it to President of the US who came from a single mom's home, who did not have money and found away to achieve success in ways the people on this blog cannot even touch. It's an inspriring story. IF you have read the speech, you will see that he has some great thoughts to get the year started right.

If only we cared this much anout our kids when it came to what rappers, movie studios, profane kindergarten soccer coaches, uneducated yet college graduate athletes and all the rest have to "say" to our kids. Talk about selective parenting!!!

Anonymous said...

Parts of the speech sounds like a candidate sepaking, not a president. Obama mentions how his mother so poor he couldn't go to school where other American children went but doesn't mention he never attendted a public school but went to the most exclusive school in Hawaii. He tells the kids to pay attention to those teachers instead of making it personal by saying your teachers.

The speech should be to high school or junior high students. It is not communicating with grade school children.

It does have a slight social justice message in it as expected.

For parents who have the right to decide about their children because of trust issues, history reminds us that Adloph Hitler said in 1939 "Give me the children, I will give you a nation".

Anonymous said...

In Browar County Florida, school children will be punished if they miss the President's speech. If Democrats were in control in Wise County, our kids would suffer the same fate. Thank God, they aren't even close to being a majority.

If I invite you and your family to my house and when you walk in I have a porno playing on my big screen tv, what are YOU going to do?

You are going to cover the kid's eyes and rush them out the door...... You might even ring the doorbell again and punch me in the nose.

Why did Obama AND HIS WIFE, let their kids sit front row and "listen and watch" Rev. Jeremiah Wright spew his weekly hatred?

Bottom line, when you let your kids see something that means you approve it. OBAMA PISSED BACKWARDS OVER JEREMIAH WRIGHT SO FAST IT MADE MY HEAD SPIN. THIS GUY IS NOT A LEADER HE IS AN ACTOR, AND THE AMERICAN KIDS HAVE SEEN TOO MUCH OF THAT.

Wordy needs a good dose of:

Two old liberal women (emphasis: OLD) who just tell it like it is.

That's one of the perks of old age. No more fake - just rank honesty.

Love it.

wordkyle said...

In reverse order:

842 - I'll check it out, see how rank it is.

700 - Well, you caught me. I did indeed observe that Obama's words don't always match the truth. You handily omit that I also observed that if he sticks to the announced message, then good for him. See how reasonable I am?

631 - Why in the world would anyone want to discuss me? I'm nobody. When I can set government policy and get celebrities to pledge to be my servant, then we'll have something worth discussing.

Denney Crane said...

I want you to remember that this is the same administration wanting citizens to rat out "fishy" emails and websites that disagreed with his policies with supposed misinformation.

Then they want our children to write him a letter stating how they can help HIM... rat out the opposition? Parents maybe?

I believe there's an agenda here. Use the Dept of Education to create another database so as to correspond with schoolchildren.

It's called organizing and communicating with as many people as possible; while eliminating opposition.

He's been very successful with ACORN and Americorps, it's time to reach out farther.

Wordy, it's been said before - run for office - that way you can do your civic duty to really try to make changes - and who knows you might even get Madonna to give you a campaign contribution.

The Star Telegram today lists LOTS of Dems and Reps, including the President (when he was a Senator), and Kay Bailey Hutchinson who have taken donations from health care folks.

Sheesh, can we trust any of these folks anymore?

Come on Word, toss your hat in the ring. Then you can move from a nobody to a somebody.

What about the back room deal 0bama just made with certain pharmaceutical companies. Didn't he guarantee they would have no competition in his deal?

Anonymous said...

Come on Denney, they all make backroom deals. That's the way politicians and lobbyists work.

And we are supposed to respect right to vote?

No wonder hoards of folks stay away from the polls.

We can check out Wise County on that one.

Denney Crane said...

Sorry pardner,

The people voted for a President who promised transparency; no backroom deals; no lobbyists in his administration influencing TARP & Stimulus.

Saying they all do it does not make it right. What happened to "change & hope"?

Moderates and leftists are wondering why their man isn't doing what he promised... but they aren't screaming too loud any more... Even Hufpo & the Times are turning on him.

Some people just get tired of drinking Kool Aid.

Anonymous said...

I rather liked Nixon and Johnson until I heard some tapes of phone conversations of some of their "back room" tactics.

All Presidents do it. Obama is no different. So what?

But those guys do have a bit of power - the veto.

And I expect Obama to use that if he doesn't get his way on health care reform.
