Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • New candidates for Dancing With The Stars have been announced this morning. It includes a former Texas Congressman and a former Dallas Cowboy.
  • Ranger Ian Kinsler almost got killed with a fastball to the head on Saturday night. (Great quality video here.)
  • A lot of people tell me to watch Mad Men but I really don't know anything about it.
  • We've still got a five year wait until Southwest can fly out of Love Field and not first stop in a neighboring state.
  • Seventy-seven banks have failed this year, but no one seems to care. This country is so odd because no matter what happens, there's this "everything will be all right" attitude.
  • I've stopped buying a daily paper.
  • Britney in a pink bikini this weekend. Hey, now.
  • For some reason those Bill Kurtis AT&T ads really bug me.
  • Former Red Raider Michael Crabtree has yet to sign with the Oakland Raiders. I don't think that guy is very smart. Edit: Apparently I'm not very smart since I said "Raiders" instead of 49ers.
  • Funny protest sign.
  • My back pain went away over the week. That's good. Really good.
  • I stayed out too late on Saturday. It used to not impact me on Sunday. I think those days are gone.
  • Weekend sports shockers: Rangers lead in Wild Card (it's all about pitching), Tiger blows a fourth round lead in a major (way to let a South Korean beat us), and we have a new 100 meters world record (but you can't really use that skill anywhere else, can you?).
  • Looks like the "public option" for health care is dying a slow death.
  • I've never really thought much about "falling rocks" signs, but this horrible incident in Colorado makes me rethink that.

I fly non-stop to St. Louis out of Love all the time. As an American I am terrible with geography but I don't believe St. Louis is located in a neighboing state.

Why the continuing use of the euphemism "public option?" Why not simply call it government-run or government-controlled? Are you intentionally promoting Newspeak?

The public option for healthcare needs to die so those of us senior citizens may live.

I am sorry, but furnishing healthcare for illegal aliens is pure insanity. They need to be sent back for proper induction into the immigration process if they are still interested in living in a country where government is out of control...sort of like where they came from.

Crabtree will never sign with the Raiders.

He was drafted by the 49er's

Even funnier protest sign:

COME ON!

Rangers are for real. Key to making the playoffs is the consistently good pitching from the young arms, and keep beating the Angels!
Didn't the pitcher throwing at Kinsler get the news? Padilla is no longer with the Rangers. (I know...it was not intentional)
And did you see the kid in the stands catch TWO foul balls off Hamilton in the same at-bat? He was named the fan of the game AND player of the game!

It was just a matter of time before Michael Irvin got onto DWTS. Should make for some interesting stuff.
"Hello, groin? This is pride!"

FYI...we've been providing free healthcare to illegal aliens for many years.

Is this chick a shark attack survivor? Has some pretty cool scars on her left side.

If all of you Republican weenies would quit complaining and start doing something about your Republican counterparts hiring all of the illegal immigrants, then they would be going back home and Healthcare would not be an issue. So put your mouth to work demanding that our representatives in Washington take action against employing them instead of mouthing on this blog.

wordkyle, like the "Death Panel" newspeak?

Someone tell Britney that the porkpie fedora is just not a good look. Honestly, she and that Justin Timberlake fellow have been wearing those goofy hats for years. C'mon. Give 'em up already. And what's with the tats over her ovaries? Who gets those and thinks that will be attractive? Wow, I am a whiney biotch today.

"That South Korean" that beat Tiger lives in Southlake. So which side are we supposed to be on?

Tom Delay on Dancing with the Stars is priceless.

1001 - Brush up on your Orwell. The idea behind Newspeak is that if it can't be said, it can't be thought. "Public option" could refer to what we have now. What is intended by using the Democrat euphemism is to minimize the idea that the government will control the public's "options."

"Death panel," on the other hand, has been attributed to one private individual, rather than the government. Fiery, yes. Accurate, possibly. (If you're willing to extrapolate, as Palin does pretty well here.) Effective, absolutely. (The "end of life" portion was the first section dropped after the townhall uproar.) But not Newspeak.

Watch Mad Men. Great show.

They are saying Yang is the first Asian to win a major? Isn't Tiger half Asian? Oh that's right, he's half black so that trumps everything.

Old Timer, Go post on Huff and Puff's blog. That's where all the kids play.

Old Timer that all sounds fine and good but, you left out three other very important entities who also share in the illegal immigration problem in the good ole USA. The federal, state and local governments who are currently providing welfare, social services, free medical, etc. to these illegal’s.

For some odd reason flights to Missouri are exempt from the Wright Amendment.

Mad Men is greatness.

You're not sucking me into that vortex of fail known as the Texas Rangers. Run away from the light!!!

House of R and R, You are right. Stop and look at any construction project for the County, State or Federal government and you will see that the majority of workers are Illegals. If everyone would stop hiring them, they would go back home. It is the jobs that bring them here and they just take advantage of the system that was set up to provide for our own. Jobs are the key to correcting the problem.

Barry,
Can you or any of the readers answer my question? I see at least once a week on 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport or on 287 in Decatur an officer speeding. Why is it that it is fine for them to speed and break the law, but a non law enforcement person would be given a citation. These officers never have their lights or sirens on in their clearly marked cars. I have called and filed complaints and they always say, we will have somebody call you. I never hear from anyone. Shouldn’t our law enforcement be setting examples for others to follow?

If I recall correctly, the Wright Amendment had a radius of 650 miles, so flights weren't necessarily limited to only the contiguous (with Texas) states. St. Louis, MO, is, I believe, within 650 miles.

What's the matter with "everything will be OK" thinking? I happen to see plenty every day that leads me to conclude the world's going to hell in a handbasket, but to succumb to fatalism is probably worse than to be an optimist. (I try to take the path of being a realist, but, inasmuch as that's necessarily subjective, I'd be glad to err on the side of optimism.)

Is there a such thing as tooo much Britney?

No I didn't think so either- just thought I'd ask.

When I see the falling rock signs I remember the time I passed one of those in the desert when suddenly boulders as big as the car went bouncing by then some crazy yellow squiggly warning signs had me spinning around then the convertible went off the cliff and me and some guy wearing prison clothes were holding each other and screaming while the car decended- the convertible top acting as a parachute.

No, wait that was a Pee Wee Herman movie wasn't it?

THE END

Edit: It was the 2005 Kit Bond amendment to the Shelby Amendment to the Wright Amendment that added MO to the states that could be direct flown from Love. The previous Shelby Amendment had added KS, MS, and AL.

Did you go to a Piano Bar on Sat? I swear I saw someone that looked like you. But this guy looked like he had had a bit to drink and was all over this blonde lady...

Anonymous said...

I think it is pretty bad that the state, county and federal government hires these companies that hire illegals.

You can fly out of Love to Kansas City and St. Louis./..it was payback for the American Airlines/ TWA merger fiasco.

I'm not sure I see the benefit to Delay of his participating in DWTS. Face time, I guess. (That's Tom "Prosecutors still haven't brought his case to trial four years later" Delay, by the way. Apparently Ronnie Earle's successors don't want to try this case in a real court of law any more than Earle did.)

House of R and R said...

I'm not sure what government jobs you guys are talking about that allow illegals to work on them. All government projects we do require extensive background checks on the workers. Once passed, those workers are required to wear badges in order to work on said project.

Welcome to the 21st century there Barry.

Now stop believing everything you see on TV and maybe you'll make sense one day.

House of R and R, you may play by the book, but look at any road project and see how many Americans you see working. Not many. Most are illegal workers. Not hard to see.

I guess all Hispanics in the US must be illegal aliens. Unless you can read their ID at 55 mph???
