The Great Director John Hughes Has Died

Anyone who directed:
  • National Lampoon's Vacation
  • Ferris Bueller's Day Off
  • Weird Science
  • The Breakfast Club
  • Sixteen Candles
  • Some Kind of Wonderful
  • Pretty in Pink
  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles
. . . deserves to be in the Liberally Lean Hall Of Fame (I'll ignore the Home Alone movies and pretend they never happened.) You know, I have no idea what he looked like. Even his Wikipedia page doesn't have a picture.

He wrote Mr. Mom? Classic.

"I yelled at Kenny today for coloring outside the lines."

"220?"
"220. 221. Whatever it takes."

"Kenny, don't paint your sister!"

"I'm going downstairs to sleep on the fat couch...if I can get through the fat door."

"You fed your baby chili?"

Sixteen Candles was my favorite.

"What the hell are you bitchin' about? I gotta sleep under some Chinaman named after a duck's dork."

"Ooh. Sexy Girlfriend. (spoken in a broken Chinese accent)"

"What was he wearing? Well, uh, let's see, he was wearing a red argyle sweater, and tan trousers, and red shoes... No, he's not retarded. "

"Can I borrow your underpants for 10 minutes? "

"I can't believe my grandmother actually felt me up."

Classics. Farewell Mr. Hughes.

My sister was in one of his movies. Gee, I think he was only 59years old. He must have have been barely 30 when he made some of those. Very talented director.

Clark: Since this is Aunt Bethany's 80th Christmas, I think she should lead us in the saying of Grace.

Aunt Bethany: What, dear?

Nora Griswold: Grace!

Aunt Bethany: Grace? She passed away thirty years ago.

Uncle Lewis: They want you to say Grace. The BLESSING!

Aunt Bethany: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands/ One nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

Clark: Amen.

While Mr. Hughes wrote the screenplay and the Natl Lampoon Magazine short story "Vacation '58" on which the screenplay was based, that OTHER genius, Harold Ramis, directed "NL Vacation."

Dah!

I think 'Sixteen Candles' was his first to direct and I believe he also wrote it.
