This Drives Me Nuts

This little "feel good" story was buried on page 7B of the Dallas Morning News. Little Elm cops "will look for drivers abiding often-overlooked laws such as stopping completely at a stop sign and using a turn signal to change lanes" and will reward those driver's with gift cards donated from local merchants. Am I the only one that is cocking an eyebrow at this? Cops think it is OK to stop someone for no reason other than to do a good deed? And we all think this is acceptable? If the headline read: "Little Elm Police Adopt Policy To Stop Law Abiding Drivers" would someone care then? Have I ever used so many question marks in one post?????? The only good news is that any evidence discovered from the stop can't be used against the driver so long as the Exclusionary Rule still exists. (Which the Supreme Court is slowly eroding, by the way.)

So what if they stop someone who say has been drinking, not drunk but had a drink or two. Do they just follow them and pull them over 100yds down the road? Or say they have an expired inspection sticker does the same thing happen? Why not just a check point at the main enterance of town.

I think they did in Mayberry in the 60s. Something about Aunt Bee's pickles.

Just because someone is attempting to do something good, no matter if it's the Police or whomever, does it always mean they are up to something? If you're not doing anything wrong, what's the problem? Take your gift card, say think you, and hit the road! If you aren't abiding by the law, tough crap. Next time get your head out of your Bunger and think. If your smart enough to get a drivers license then take the responsibility to abide by the laws. However, if you make a complete stop at a stop sign and decide to play your banjo, I think it would be safe to say, you ain'ta gonna get no gift card.

I don't have time to be pulled over for something I didn't do!! If I'm abiding the law, leave me the h*** alone. That's BS if I ever heard it.

2:20, I am not sure what "gtiving" is but you need to remember this "Tyrant Government" and our military are the very ones who have allowed you to spew your sensless verbage. As well, you have know idea what a "Tyrant Government" is. Why don't you go live where a "Tyrant Government" runs the Country, talk trash and then let me know how you feel about our Government. We aren't perfect by any stretch but we're a hell of a lot better off than others.

What ingrates! Take the gift card. Appreciate the spirit. Some people are just trying to do something nice--nothing wrong with that.

Barry, how can they constitutionally detain you without probable cause?

Isn't that kidnapping?

If their motive were pure, why not send the card thru the mail with note saying "observed you driving well?

There's a rat in this story somewhere.

Lighten up! This is not the first town to do this. Get a life.

Bet very attractive female drivers are "REWARDED" more than other's which could lead to the cops using it as an excuse to pull a girl over to GIVE them their "GIFT" when actually there is other motive perhaps a beeter look At the gal or posible find out where she lives????LOTS OF possibility's with this little scheme....Hummmmm

Hey, Jarhead, tell me why I think of you when I see Mike Scott, the Sheriff of Lee County, Florida?

3:21 correctly says,"If their motive were pure, why not send the card thru the mail with note saying "observed you driving well?

There's a rat in this story somewhere."

And anyone who thinks otherwise- you are seriously naive.

REMEMEMBER MY YOUNG CHILDREN, Barry this is from memory that u have heard from the old regime in court for the past decades. I KNOW the Supreme Court has not changed the scope or definition: Set of circumstances based upon more than mere suspicion supported by facts that would cause a reasonable and prudent person to believe that a crime has been committed or is in the process of being committed. THAT'S memory, notice no comma's, periods or exaggeration's. WITHOUT THAT U don't want to know "mere suspicion" definition.

That's the way they taught it back then, always be prepared for the first one that asked for the definiton of "PROBABLE CAUSE".

Learn it, live it and die by it.

Retired DPD 109.

5:34, that's pretty close, but I have a goatee and I'm not as burly as that dude.

And I'm not a pig, um, I mean police officer.
