Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • Feels like Fall this morning. That's-a-good.
  • A fantasy football draft (mine occurred last night - photo below) with 14 teams and 15 rounds can turn into a beating
  • My league actually paid Yahoo $129 for its fantasy football package because it had some extra features we had to have that the free version didn't.
  • The Star Telegram home page is still "Tracking Hurricane Gustav." I think it's in Cottondale now
  • The Republican National Convention seemed very white last night.
  • Lot's of Bird Hunting Talk at the courthouse yesterday
  • I had another taillight go out on the family truckster. I actually had a spare replacement light from last week so I was able to change it on the spot. Never had that happen before.
  • I'm not sure I understand the Burning Man celebration. It looks like a bunch of hippies. But I would kind of like to go see it.
  • Obama got the expected "bump" from the Democratic Convention as he now leads McCain 50% to 42% in the Gallup Poll.
  • I don't like going to bed at midnight and getting up at 5:00 a.m.
  • I appreciate the banter in the comments between Right Wing and Left Wing but I don't think either side is subject to being persuaded to change
  • I don't think we expect much out of life.
  • "Glamour models Rosie Jones, Amy Diamond and Katie Downs march down Oxford Street in London wearing lingerie to promote the reopening of the Ann Summers store." In America, we settle for a ribbon cutting with big, fake scissors.
  • A college president gets photographed holding a mini-beer bong over a coed's mouth in a boat and ends up being forced to resign with a $400,000 severance package? Sign me up.
  • Nicholas Cage makes about three movies a year. Most of them bad. (Saw him briefly on David Letterman last night while I was channel surfing.)
  • I drove through Granbury for the first time in years last weekend (home of Jarhead, I believe.) Man, that place is built up. Big time.
  • The boyfriend of the pregnant daughter of Sarah Palin apparently had a myspace page referring to himself as a "redneck", dropped some profanity, and said he "didn't want kids." You knew that scrutiny was coming.
  • Had a guy ask me last weekend when the NFL season started. If he didn't know, it probably didn't matter to him very much.
  • It was still amazing how McCain went from a non-contender to the nominee overnight in the primaries earlier this year. Time magazine has a time line this week showing he won Florida on January 29th and most of the states on Super Tuesday on February 5th. And the election was over in a matter of eight days.
  • Politics truly does give me Tired Head
  • I haven't been to a rodeo since I was forced to because of a double date. It was a bad date and I still had to sit through the rodeo.

He probably does not want a "Shotgun" wedding either, but potential gun toting granma is going to give him one.

Obamas mother was unwed when she got pregnant.

So the product of that union can be president.

But a person whose daughter is pregnant and unmarried can't be vice president?

Liberals have confusing rules.

Speaking of bird hunting talk at the courthouse. When I was a kid it used to have more trees around it which attracted by them and the lights brought all those blackbirds. A bunch of deputies and their friends drug out their shotguns one night and started blasting them.
I don't think they'd even daydream about getting away with something like that these days.

holy batshit bg..say it ain't so..a redneck using profanity wtf !

Yes, but 7% of the 8% bump from the socialist convention in Denver was after the Clintonistas spoke and before the chosen one gave his angry rant.

Parents should monitor their teen's Myspace as well as their text messaging. You would be surprised what they think they are getting away with. Install a key stroke recorder so you can pick up their passwords. The new electronic technology has not been around long enough to see the damage it is doing to our youth. We do know that with text messaging they no longer need their vocal chords. This change in means of communication breaks down inhibitions that would tend to keep them respectful. Language that was kept in the locker room is now being broadcast on cell phone text messages and over the internet. This is bad. This conservative would just as soon see the Palin daughter have the baby without the punk who fathered it.

The Republican Convention crowd seemed to be a more attractive group than those that attended the Democratic Convention.

Yes---the RNC had a "white" flavor to it last night, but not as "black" as the DNC was last week. When are we going to learn that it's o.k. to be black, white, male or female in this country as long as you are an American first and bear no malice to any of the other groups? Every issue in America can be broken down, and often is, supported or condemned along purely racial or gender lines. I am one voter who is sick of this type of contrived and manipulated analysis along these lines on the part of the tabloid, controversy rabid media to achieve media share at all costs. I naively long for a day when common sense, honesty, fair play, and decency are valued above all else in America, and devoid of "spin" and party propaganda.

14 teams in a fantasy football league? Anything more than 10 dilutes the available talent to the point that nobody can score with any reasonable consistency during the season. 8 teams is just about ideal.

The RNC seems to frequently have big ticket DEMs at their conventions. There have been several notable senators who have actually switched over to the GOP.

Does the reverse ever happen?

Anonymous said...

yea BG..why didn't you make any kind of comment whatsoever about how BLACK the dnc convention was...? what's the deal here...?? are you trying to convince somebody that you are not a closet racist...?

BREAKING NEWS..HOLDUP ALARM AT CHICO BANK...

Anonymous said...

Sarah Palin is a female version of Phil King, who is a David Barton "disciple". Palin is a pawn thrown in at the last minute by the Rove faction that the Christian right needed to have in order to coax their fanatical votes out for McCain. Smart politics, bad government, if these poor souls happen to get elected. Its all about guns, babies, and Jesus, BABY!

Obama said,"I will rebuild the US military..." We have the best, most well equipped, most combat hardened military in the world, is he just trying to prove he doesn't know what he's talking about?

Well, the Liberal Weenies have sunk to a new low. They have now publisized Gov. Palin's social security number. I swear they cannot take the heat. Let's start true trash on Biden. When's someone going to open up that closet door and advertise his true arrogant, pompus, colors?

The fantasy football draft last nite seemed very white. There is nothing more gay than all white guys picking their favorite black players.

When Gov Palin speaks to the RNC tonight, I suspect that she will do so with strength, determination, style and class and therein lies the problem. The liberal media is scared to death that she is actually what she appears to be and the general public will really relate to her and thus love her. That's the reason for their attempted heavy smeer campaign of her so far. It certainly is a shame that politics in this country has stooped to this level. Most of us just want to see honest, fair, and equal coverage of both sides, with the good and bad of both, presented in an unbiased manner.

That has not been the case in this election cycle and the Liberal media machine has shown, even with their very unfair coverage of Hillary Clinton in favor of Obama, that they will do anything to push their own agenda and their own candidate, no matter what the consequences. That has become so obvious and so blatant, it would be very funny, if it was not so sad for America.

Had Sarah Palin leaked to the press that John Edwards was the father of her daughter's baby, you would have not heard another thing about it. They must protect their own.

"The boyfriend of the pregnant daughter"?

The gratuitous use of a word meant to modify a statement with the intention of debasing another person is perjorative and should be eschewed.

WEDNESDAY MORNING THOUGHT-----the Sheriff is getting married Saturday night...Are you going to provide pics for the BLOG. You mentioned the invite that the Sheriff sent you....

Has anyone heard from the Obammy main stream press about Bidens son and brother being under indictment?

Anonymous said...

Sarah Palin is clearly NOT the most qualified Republican to fill the role of VP. She may have various qualities but they just do not add up to "most qualified." She is a pandering choice to satisfy the far right-wing of the base and to women voters who vote only based on sex.

McCain's choice of this person demonstrates it is HE who puts politics ahead of the interests of the country. A real patriot?!

speaking of redneck, BG have you ever watch that "my big redneck wedding" on CMT?
wow, it is wise county at it's finest. i would be surprised if some of those episodes are not shot straight out of new fairview.

its tv gold

10:57, If Biden was not qualified to be President in 88 because of his plaigerism, why is he qualified to be VP in 08?

Anonymous said...

1057 would you say obama is the most qualified to be POTUS ??

Anonymous said...

Here, here 10:46 I second your nomination.

What's with all the ugly fatties with the two cute chicks?

We get all pumped and in a good mood when we have a fall-ish morning that may signal the end of summer misery.

Do northern people feel the same when the first warm day signals the end of winters brutality?

wordkyle said...

1057 - I daresay that the "most qualified" people of every political stripe don't care to undergo the scrutiny and attacks that seekers of high public office suffer.

We've probably never heard of those who are "most qualified" for President or Vice President.

We are forced to settle for politicians, who are by definition NOT the "most qualified," or they'd be pursuing something more noble than politics.

Anonymous said...

I've always believed Dick Armey would make a great POTUS..he is an honest and a good man, and from our area..!

BG..wasn't it a bad date that killed that monkey on indiana jones..??

It may just be me but, it seems like liberals are always either rich elitists or angry losers wanting Uncle Sam to give them a free ride.

I can't identify with either.

Anonymous said...

Arguing about politics is giving me a headache, can we start discussing something we all can agree on like religion or the drug war?

Thanks

12:16, It always seems to me the republicans are rich white guys that want to raid the treasury, expand government's reach into my privacy and make my kids pay the bill.

Why is that?

Is there anyone out there who hasn't already decided who they are voting for? I doubt enough to change the results.

And will any of the vile, sarcastic innuendo, lies change even one of the decided?

So this blog has become a strategy/procedure for self gratification.

Barry, please channel all political Random Thoughts to its own post. Let them beat themselves raw!!!!

Let us go on being entertained by your "Liberally lean perspective on living in Wise Co."

Please!

As the screen scrolls so does the days of our lives.
Yep just like you say "B" we don't expect much out of life.

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor

Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait till their judgement day comes, yeah!

1:41 - I don't get Republicans either - they say they detest government control but WANT control of how we live our lives.

Having great wealth can put folks totally out of touch.

That is my definition of a typical Republican.
