And Another X 2

Man, I'm getting inundated with emails about this story. Edit: "Both teens were riding high-performance motorcycles — Mr. Smith a blue and white 2008 Suzuki GSX-R 600, and Mr. Wright a black 2006 Kawasaki Ninja 636." (From DMN story.) Edit: An from emailer Keith comes this story.

I heard more grizzly details this morning on the radio than the paper tells. The Smith kid hit the cement barrier on the edge of an overpass type area of the highway and flew over the edge and fell down to his death. I would think speed was involved. (Not the drug)

Were they on two seperate bikes [hetero] or on the same one [gay]?

I'll reiterate: not missing my motorcycle a single bit.

We're drugs or alcohol involved?

Big surprise that both were riding Ninjas. I don't know what it is, but people seem to loose their brains once they get on a Ninja. I have seen people doing wheelies in the middle of rush hour traffic.

Maybe they should make these people sign their last will and also make funeral arrangements before they purchase one. This might drive the fact home.

So sad. So preventable.

4:22: Both were not on Ninjas. One was a Ninja, the other a Gixxer. A Kawasaki Ninja is a sportbike, but not all sportbikes are Ninjas. Riding a sportbike doesn't make you a squid, how you ride it does. I've been riding sportbikes for years (+25) and I don't act like an idiot on the road.

I'm familiar with that turn, and I don't even want to tell you what speed I could take an equivalent turn on the track - and I bet the two riders weren't anywhere close. But then again, I've practiced a lot on a racetrack.

The rider that crashed first had purchased the bike only 4 days ago. From the reports, it sounds like speed, inexperience, panic, lack of protective gear, and "target fixation" all played a role in these two deaths. All preventable.

These boys were some mother's and father's sons. You people making fun of their deaths are vermin!
I used to tell my kids I hoped they lived through their "everybody's doing it" experiences.... because not everybody does. Here are two examples. God be with their families.

7:41, if they would have been shooting at each other in a crowded mall, would you feel the same way? Is that an "everybody's doing it" type of thing? Well racing those bikes on a freeway with grandma, kids coming home from a date, a family headed on vacation, etc. is the same thing. I'm thankful no one else who DIDN'T deserve to be killed was hurt.

Why are the words "accident" and "victims" used in these wrecks? Was the biker accidently driving 120 miles per hour on a racing bike? Or 200 plus mph on a salt bed? Was the driver a victim of someone else's bad intentions or bad judgement?

8:54, they weren't shooting at each other in a crowded mall. How ludicrous for you to say such a thing. They were TEENAGERS! I bet YOUR teenagers drove/sped/raced some in their day too. Glad they lived through it so that people LIKE YOU don't make FUN of how stupid they were! Teenagers feel they are invincible...these two made a terrible mistake. I DO feel for their families, just as I would feel for you if it were your child who "lost his mind" for a while and it cost him his life. But then again, maybe you don't have kids ......therefore you don't have any clue how a parent feels.

All of you fools miss the point. I ride sport bikes, mostly at the track. There is an overriding quality to the vast majority of young men who do this. All quietly realize that they are living on the edge. It tends to sharpen one's senses doing so. Some don't make it. The ones who do are vastly superior humans to a whole gaggle of fat-asses who spend their lives parked in front of a TV watching American Idol and Fantasy Survivor Island.

Simply put: When the world takes its next giant dump I want those young fearless guys on my side. You bunch of whiners just go on and die in front of your boob tubes and let the rest of us get on with the business of re-populating the planet with people who are willing to live on the edge. The rest of you are taking up too much space.
