Even the same dress color.
Well....I think they did exactly what they meant to do.....get stuff stirred up and media attention for their magazine!!.....but I don't get it either!
That is one VERY loose association.Basically according to the article the picture is supposed to connote a black beast carrying off the fair white woman. You'd have to be retarded to think that way.
Everyone just lighten the f**k up. I think it's a cool photo. So what if they intended to portray him as King Kong?? Isn't that a compliment. The guy IS a monster on the court.
So if it's racist why is LeBrone on the cover? Was he forced to do this you think or, did he receive a nice check? Or, is there someone out there making more of it than it is? Or does someone out there just have nothing better to do. I am sure a Company such as Vogue would like to put their ASS on the line for one Cover and have the living Crap sued out of them. Yes, I am sure that was their intention. What a frick'n joke! I think I'll go to Wal-Mart today and stand around until I find something racist about White people or something that really upsets me so I can sue someone and retire. What a "Sissy-Ass", Sensitive,Kiss Ass,nation we have become. What's happened to gut's, a set of nut's and telling someone to "stick it". We have guy's putting their life on the line every day in Iraq and we're making a big deal out of a magazine cover with a guy on the front that makes millions of dollars a year, did it for the money and probably, truly doesn't care about the riff it's caused or he wouldn't have done it in the first place. Holy Crap People, Get a Life!! I'm just saying.
America is not an androgynous, colorless, society---never has been---never will be. I think the "racial sensitivity" issue has been stuck in overdrive far too long, and this is yet another example. Yes, unfortunately racism still exists in this country--and no one race has a monopoly on it---but I think that the majority of people are really tired of being bludgeoned to death by the "race" card in be media every time persons of opposite races are pictured together, or a peson of one race comments on a person of another race in any context---good or bad---and it is be spun into a racially offensive context by the media.
[yawn] Stupidity. Weird mag cover...saw it yesterday; didn't quite get it either. It's good, however -- effective. Makes you look. The "racist" nonsense and ape association is quite the stretch. Hey, no pun intended, but maybe they're making fun of midgets? They're both awfully tall...Little People, be offended.[yawn]
Maybe it should've been Steve Nash with his arm around Halle Berry.
I think the ape deserves an apology for being compared to an NBA player. Most of them are thugs and prima donnas. I bet the ape was'nt paid anything either! Come on! Where's the love for the animal kingdom?
Personally, I think that is damn funny. I agree with 9:09. Lighten up.
BG.. Your coping me again.
Yeah, BG. Stop coping Silicone.
She wouldn't want ME coping her that's for sure-word.
Ha,that's not what she said!
Hmmmm...One picture is of Nazi Germany's militarism depicted as a gorilla invading the U.S. and carrying off Themis/Lady Justice and the other is of a famous black male basketball player and a wannabe pro volleyball player turned super model.WHAT type of person thinks a gorilla and a black man are one and the same or Themis/Lady Justice and an anti-American Brazilian supermodel are the same?People need to stop SEARCHING for possible offenses of racism against blacks and start INVESTIGATING real cases of racism committed against whites.
mzchief, nobody on this blog (or otherwise that I can find in reference to this photo) claimed that a gorilla and a black man are one and the same. Likewise, nobody claimed that the lady depicted in the previous picture and the current model are the same. Did you miss school the days that you were supposed to learn about analogy and metaphor? I'm sure that you've told us that you are smart enough to grasp those concepts. While it may be stretching to say that "this" photo has racist overtones, to suggest that a photo must be interpreted as some exact allegorical representation in order for it to be offensive is incorrect.Any photo, if famous enough, brings with it its history and meaning. When a famous photo is altered, it usually merges the images in the mind of the viewers. Remember all the knock-off photos that the pregnant Demi Moore photo has spawned.I don't know what the magazine planned here (other than to sell more magazines), but you cannot logically claim that if viewers are shown both images they can't reasonably impute negative aspects to Mr. James.
To anonymous 5:10...Obviously you tend to go off the deep end WITHOUT many FACTS. Read the story associated to the link Barry provided with his blog entry where it clearly states there are people who have "slammed Vogue for 'perpetuating racial stereotypes,'" with their March cover. As much as you would like to be me, do NOT EVER for a moment believe that I EVER have the same mindset as your ilk because I see no attempt at demeaning Mr. James in the Vogue photo. Do you EVER get tired of being eaten up with your jealousy of me? Waddle your lame arse to Wal-Mart and get your meds because you really cannot risk missing another dose.
MZ: You are a unt with a capital uh.i am an ss with a capital AI prefer me to you
mzchief, I "read" the linked story and I "read" your response...did you? You said, "WHAT type of person thinks a gorilla and a black man are one and the same or Themis/Lady Justice and an anti-American Brazilian supermodel are the same?" I repeat...nobody, OTHER THAN YOU, made any reference to them being the "same".Your argument misrepresents the position of those claiming that the picture is a perpetuation of a negative stereotype. You then attempt to refute the extreme position that YOU ALONE created by your misrepresentation. I have noticed this straw man style of your arguments before. If pointing out that your argument is faulty is what you consider going off the deep end, so be it. If you insist on dizzying us with your genius, at least try to stick with the facts. I never said that I believed it was a racist cover, yet I do want to try to understand what those that think it is are trying to say. I, unlike many of those that regularly comment on this blog, do not believe that it is impossible for me to learn something that might change my mind. But, to do so, I will have to try to comprehend something that I do not already completely understand. This picture is just one example of something that I do not believe is rascist...yet, if I could understand the perspective of another, perhaps I might.I don't believe it's beyond your capability to comprehend the arguments of the other side. I urge you to do so instead of whipping us with fake arguments that are more easily refuted.
To anonymous 8:24...Let me get this straight, you prefer ass to a "unt with a capital uh." Either you are a woman with a very strange fetish or you are a gay guy. Like I have ALWAYS said, the things you haters say about me ALWAYS say more about you than you can EVER say about me.
To anonymous 9:03...You are trying just a wee bit too hard. You REALLY need to get over ME being ME and get on with YOU being YOU.Obviously, you did not manage to waddle to Wal-Mart and pick up your meds. Oh, well. Tomorrow is another day and PERHAPS you will pick them up before you miss ANOTHER dose.Good luck to you. YOU need luck.
Ditto 9:03.And did Sillycone say: your coping....or did she mean you're copying???So confused we must be!
So Porch Monkeys was just miscommunication from years ago?
