What Is Up?

I've been getting emails about the lack of media coverage over the "Homecoming King" in Decatur. I'm not quite sure what the hubbub is about. (That's not him - just the funniest Homecoming King picture I could find).

Who really cares anyway.
I am surprised you have not written anything about a certain "reporter" for a certain newspaper that wrote a little blirp about your blog in a column. I think it is funny that he criticizes you-but he is the one that took his time away from "reporting" to read your blog. I am so sick of hypocrites.

unless i read something different, i didnt read that as criticism, and i bet barry is smart enough to know that as well.

as for the king, me, my wife and both of our kids were at the homecoming game and there was no king crowned at halftime, before the game or even after the game. and when the horse and carriage circled the stadium, there was no king riding with the queen. hmmmm, i guess a king wasnt important enough to be named at the game, so it must not be that important.
goodnite, there are bigger things in the world to worry about. i read the letter to the editor in the paper today about it and i REALLY REALLY hope the WCM does not do a front page story on something so stupid just because some woman is crying.
shut up.

"The Land of Dairy Queen" is getting a lot of attention, and someone from the Messenger is reading it.

There was a little bit of negative attention about the Blog taking time away from work. Of course, Barry pokes fun at the Messenger. It works. It sells papers.
Now, just how much time does it take away from work to come up with all the topics. Who cares? If it is fun for Barry, why not have fun with a Blog instead of playing golf, fishing, etc..Or he can do all! Oh, if only all of us could have the time and money to have a Blog!

The Homecoming King deal is just silly! Silly people are allowed to say what they think. I doubt if any school gets into trouble for not having a King. Everyone knows who that is anyway...the King is the star player on the football field. So, it is fair.

Or in Decaturs' case-it usually winds up being one of the wealthier people.

I think Barry is doing a better job at reporting the news than the Messenger. Lets focus on homecoming Kings-and why there moms' and dads' are complaining that there son was either not picked, or did not get enough publicity. Who cares first off.
Secondly, it pretty apparent then-members of the local newspaper read Barry's blog to get ideas for stories, or to actually stay informed themselves. It is kind of funny how many things Barry talks about then a couple of weeks later it is mentioned in the local media. (Whether it be local, regional, national, or worldwide news)

9:28 So you know how it goes in Decatur!

Well, the rich people's kids may get King in high school but soon they have to go out in the real world. Or become President!

Sorry about that last thought...but we are on a Liberal Blog!

I kinda know the young man crowned king and he is an awesome kid. The kind that works hard and is just all round good--he would make any parent proud. Because of that, I wish they would of covered it--it is kids like that who should be recognized.

It is my understanding that the Homecoming King for Decatur is based upon which nominee raises the most money.

This year because of the Hurricane everyone at the school was raising & giving money to Hurricane causes.

Most of the money raised by the nominees was the night of the Homecoming football game. John French, the senior nominee won. They may have announced it at the end of the game (I don't know I was in concession stand) but there was no crowning or anything of that sort because during the halftime homecoming presentation they were all still raising money in jars & buckets at the game. I don't think the King had been determined at that point.

John is a great kid & a good role model. He is the first Black homecoming king that Decatur has ever had. That is probably why many were excited to see it reported in the paper. I don't think the messenger even knew there was a homecoming king & who it was. I didn't until later that weekend. My daughter is a DHS student.

My concern is that the people writing think it wasn't reported because of his race. That is not true. There just was not a big push to raise money earlier in the week because it would have seemed & felt inappropriate because of the hurricanes elsewhere.

so if it didnt happen during homecing game, and it was annouced and the decatur messegner was not told about it, then why is the paper being roasted for not doing something about it?

dumb bridgeport people. oops, i saw a few things added to the blog about that were in the decatur MESS today, blog scooped again?
