In a shameless bit of self-promotion, I wrote this about the Big Sandy battle three years ago. I need to update it but I'm too lazy. (But from re-reading it, it is incredible how things have changed in three years).

Wow, Decatur's owns Bridgeport. No wonder everyone on the west side of the creek hates Decatur. I would get tired of getting beat, too.
Bridgeport is a piece of crap. They will lose in everything from now on. Be prepared to feel the wrath of the mighty eagle you sissies.

as far back as i can remember all the game between these 2 team have been close.. with the excetion of 93 when the bulls lite up those pansy eagle for 50 pts "35 in the 2nd quarter" then lord henson decided to take it easy on those punks take out all the starters after the 1st series of the 3rd quarter.. well i've got a funny feeling about this game.. could be another decatur romp.. go bulls
bridgeport18 - You do not have a very good memory, by your on admission. Last year was Decatur 64 Bridgeport 28. Year before that Decatur 35 Bridgeport 14. Come on, know what your talking about before you mouth off.
It is also incredible that in 2005 students are allowed to write WDA and WBA on any and everything. A few years ago you would have been punished for this as inappropriate behavior. Have the rules changed or have we just got numb to whats appropriate and what's not?
The rules have changed and to your surprise much more strict. If I were in high school today I would be in suspension for smoking (we had a smoking patio) now you can be sent to AEP. I would have had truancy charges filed (we skipped more than we attended)what matter were our grades not our seat time. We had fights, took licks and went back to class. Now you fight-- have charges filed and go to AEP. It didn't matter if you you left your hunting rifle in the pickup--now you will be expelled. Most of us went to college and graduated and are productive tax paying citizens. I don't know but we might be raising a bunch of mommies babies. So if the most they can get by with is WBA or WDA--more power to them.
Bridgeport has not done anything. Decatur has done just about all the whipping. Today in the messenger it had the score from every game playing in the battle of big sandy. its safe to say this is not realy a rivalry since decatur owns the bullies. I was shocked to see the domination. bridgeport has been nothing, ever.
Does anyone else end up with sand in their vagina every time you hear the phrase "Battle of The Big Sandy?"
Two lousy teams are playing each other and you'd think it was Texas/OU weekend.
First, let me say that I graduated in 1990 (from Bport). We (my friends and myself)wrote WDA on everything, but we did it in our own town. I don't remember going to Decatur and defacing their property. I know it was done in the past and after we left, but for us the rivalry was more about school spirit and pumping up our team. We would decorate the bridge with signs and streamers when we had to go to Decatur to play. I don't know why kids do these malicious things to the other town. It's a game for Christ's sake. As for why it's such a big rivalry, I think it's a bigger rivalry for Bport because Decatur has beat them more, but I know Decatur would be disgraced if they lost to Bport.
i graduated in 93 and we did go over there hang a blue chicken from a noose from there flag pole and wrote wda on all there high school windows and painted all the road signs maroon and put wda.. we knew we were going to kick the shit out of them that year and we had lost for so many years it seem like we tried to take out all those years of losing in 2 nights.. and we did.. we killed them 50-15.. it was a good time..
Okay I'm not from Decatur or Bridgeport but have friends and family at the two! Or y'all going to have a repeat of the Cheerleader-mascot fight? (And then a couple of years later what was it?.....water balloons?)
