Just Think What Would Have Happened . . .

. . . last night if Devin Godboldt still played for Decatur? From the Morning News: "Devin Godboldt rushed for 319 yards and four touchdowns to lead Denton Liberty Christian over Dallas Christian . . . . Godboldt carried the ball just four times in the second half, but three of those were touchdowns - runs of 60, 67 and 80."

Do you think Liberty Christian even gives the TAKS test?

I'd have to say we won the game just fine without him

even if they did give taks test any time would take devin he is a natural athlete some people need to understand that and quit making excuses bout him going there. it is a great school and more scouts look there than probably anywhere in texas.you are just going to have to understand whereever he goes he will always get publicity. get over it

No, private schools are not subjected to administer the TAKS test to students. But, they are required by Federal Law to administer their own exit test. Liberty Christian bases their courses on A Beka, which is basically an accelerated learning platform with an underlying foundation for the study of Christianity. Devin is a great football player no doubt, but we are not making excuses about him going there. He made the decision to go to Liberty and not continue at Decatur. Whether if it was because of the school not administering the TAKS, that is his business. Liberty does not have a hard schedule like most schools. So great players like Devin will shine even brighter. The question is IF he is recruited by a college-will he be able to cut it academically? If anything, the private school curriculum is much harder than most public schools' curriculums-but almost measures up equally with Decatur ISD.

It may be a great school, but I doubt very seriously that more scouts look there than anywhere in Texas. I guess it depends on what colleges you are talking about.

Umm, I guess you didn't actually read the article about him, because there is no doubt in anyone's mind that he left because of ineligibility due to failing the TAKS test. Period. His parents also made a claim that NO ONE was willing to help him. NOT TRUE. I personally was one of the seniors at DHS giving up my lunches and after school time to tutor for that test. People were there to help.
I wasn't worried about losing him at all.. I don't know if you've all been to a Decatur game this year and seen this other kid, oh what's his name... Jacob Maxon. And besides, I think we struggle a lot more with the loss of Chandler and Brian. Like I said earlier, we won the game just fine without him.

He went there so he did not have to take the TAKS. Instead of his parents putting in in summer school and getting a tutor, they took the easy way out -- to to a small private school that doesnt play anyone and get all the glory. he is still 5-6 no matter where he plays, and college see that.

Yeah I totally agree,
I graduated last year from Decatur as well. The whole thing is just one big excuse to not take the TAKS test, and still play football and graduate. As the other person said, tons of people were there to help him anytime anywhere-including teachers. DISD may not be the best district in the world, but when it comes to the TAKS or anything else you need help in-the teachers are always there asking the students if they need help. He did not make much of a tradeoff though. Yeah he doesn't have to take the TAKS. But private school course work is much more rigorous than public school. So, it would be pretty funny to see another story about him going to Denton Ryan or something at the end of this year, because he couldn't cut it at Liberty Christian.

I was told that he was supposed to attend Summer School because of failed classes his junior year but he didn't want to do that. I am in agreeance to the fact that if he can't make it in High School how will he make it in College. There are plenty of tutors within the Decatur High School that he could have received help from. I just think he wants the glitz and glamour from football. I wish him well and wish it could have all been different, but Decatur Eagles are doing just fine. I feel like Brandon Cobb and his team are doing a wonderful job of giving their all!!! GO EAGLES!!!
