It looks like the church in Tyler is doing just what Barry does; throw out a hot potato and see how it gets batted around. If you read the Bible, you'll find many of the writers didn't mince words. We always want to be smiles and happiness but sometimes people have to hear the consequences of their actions. There are some bad things that happen in New Orleans and in Decatur. Maybe we should point them out here also.
Maybe not exactly the best PR move for the church but there could be some truth there. Ever been to N. O.? Witchcraft, Voodoo.etc. It had the one the highest crime rates in America.
This sign and article was sent to me this morning and I found out it was posted on your blog. I also received an article from a right-wing friend saying this was no "natural disaster". These folks and many others like them give Christianity a bad name. God is love and God also is THE one and only who judges and judges EVERYONE. Since when did these people decide they would be the ones to judge others? As a Christian and a so-called "liberal" I am disgusted by these nuts.
God also brings his wrath on the sinful when they do not turn away from sin. I'm thankful He is full of love and will forgive me when I repent and turn away from the devil. I know, however, that if I continue to live in sin, there will be a judgement for me that will not be good. I'm not saying what happened in NO is God acting out His wrath but I do believe their are wages for our sin - it's spelled out pretty well in His word.
Questions, Questions!!! You are so right! I had no right to call them "nuts". I was trying to be nice and believe me I could have said worse! I am confused as far as "liberal, tolerant, and unable to determine or discern right from wrong". I know the liberal and tolerant go together, but the last didn't go with the other two. Did I strike a nerve or a nut?
Barry, I guess this answers the question of "Liberal vs. Tolerant vs. Compassionate " regarding where your guy got his attitudes... Sometimes the answer is right in front of you.
Fred, I'm new so I apologize on how this works. I couldn't find anything about compassionate and found several that talk about liberals and two that talk about tolerant folks, so I still don't know who you're directing this to and what is in front of your face. Thanks for all your help and bear with me.
God put all of His wrath on the cross, His son Jesus, the ones without Jesus are already Judge! Jesus died for the sins of the world! I am christian and all of my sins are forgiven! now if i have sin in my life, unconfessed sin and leave it that way the door is open for the devil to attack me! God is not mad! God is Love! He wanted the people of N.O. to repent of their ways. if you don't repent don't blame God! He has given us a way out!
Dear Anoymous X, Sometimes one blog can refer to another. So...go back to all the blogs by clicking on the Back button and read this one:
"Liberal vs. Tolerant vs. Compassionate
I had a court appointment recently who, I learned during a meeting at the jail, was a member of the Aryan Brotherhood (a white supremacist group).
It wasn't a secret. He had the tattoos to prove it.
You know, my "liberal" mindset wasn't to storm out of the room while yelling what a racist he was. Instead, it was to sit and talk with him while thinking "how in the world did you end up with those attitudes?" He couldn't possibly have been born that way.
People fascinate me."
Barry is asking (probably rhetorically, he is a lawyer, after all) how someone ended up w/ those attitudes. I, FRED, am telling him that the answer is in this Blog...by attending churches like the one in the picture.
Anonymous X to Fred (or anyone else who is reading) Thanks! I was trying to figure out with the comments everyone else was making what you meant. Now everything makes sense. I'm right there with you Fred! It's people who comment "liberal Christian?" that scare me. The 'preachers' do too. To quote a once famous God-rest-his-soul comedian, "The devil made me do it". Flip would flip.
It is absurd to suggest that just because you are a conservative you are like a member of the Aryan brotherhood. Your kind of thinking is just like the racial stereotyping that you liberals condemn. I doubt that many members of that church hold to white supremists ideas.
If you and Barry come to that conclusion as usual you are dead wrong.
No clue on "liberal Chirstian" but I suspect I'm in the right location to be educated :)
Hang on a sec, let me pause my Paris video, set down my gay-hugging cup of Starbucks, and make sure I am making myself clear: It is these narrow minded, judgemental institutions that create the kind of people like the Aryan Barry was representing.
One final thought: take a look at the pictures of the homeless children in NO and tell me that is the work of God. Those children did nothing to cause such tregedy. I think that is just the work of weather. The work of God, however, is found in the coming together of communities that are pouring out the help and the money irregardless of an effective or ineffective FEMA, irregardless of who should have left early and who refused to leave... The work of God is found in liberals and conservatives alike ministering to the least of these, feeding the animals, sending toys and clothes. The work of God is found when we all take a moment and realize just how blessed we continue to be.
Enough silly debate over liberals and conservatives. Quite fretting over whether there is such a thing as a liberal Christian (I always thought the word "liberal" was applied to politics, anyway.)
Go find some more money to give and you will find God. Go drop off some blankets at a donation spot and you will find God. Take your child to fill a flood bucket or kit full of basic hygiene supplies and you will find God.
It was actually TO the conservative who thinks Fred's last name is Flintstone. HIS views are stone-age not Fred's. I share Fred's views - or at least what he has posted.
To the person who doesn't think liberals can be Christians, you are not READING the bible as a story - just taking verses from the Bible to make your points taking them out of context. That is dangerous. To argue religious beliefs, translations, and meaning - are as old as the Bible itself. When you accuse those who do not share YOUR views as NON-Christians, that's even more dangerous.
You didn't strike a nerve. Believe me if you are conservative in this country you get called a lot worse.
What I was referring to was this judgement thing. All over the blog writers sayt that if anyone tries to suggest what is right and what is wrong, they are "judging"and are taken to task by liberals who would suggest that it depends on circumstances or situation as to whether somethng is right or wrong. If you follow the liberal line of thinking (who am I to judge?) then everything is OK, anything goes.
Us neanderthal boneheads who try to follow scripture are judgemental because we try to discern what's right and wrong.
Would I put up that sign? No.
Could it be God's judgement? Did He allow it to happen? He could. God is God. There are numerous places in scripture that suggest that God in charge and has mercy on who he chooses. (see Romans 8& 9 for an example)
Romans 8 so you say God is in charge complete control? really? so your saying God did this? I have kids and im incontrol of them but I would NEVER put them in harms way never, I would not put sickness or death on them why? because i love them and want to protect them! but if they refuse to obey me and do what they want untill something bad happens to them, then its my fault? don't think so!
Actually Both Romans 8&9.(consider in context) God is in control of everything. Not just some things, everything. If He wasn't He wouldn't be God, just a sugar daddy to get us out of trouble.
I don't know why things like that happen. One thing I read said “The bigger question is why do we have troubles? Is it normal to have trouble?” Jesus said that we can expect troubles. So this is a natural part of life. That’s why they call it a natural disaster. You could take out the word natural and replace it with normal. It’s normal to have disasters. Hurricanes are a normal part of life. There have been hurricanes on the gulf coast as long as there has been water in the gulf. This disaster is larger than normal but it is still natural. Things like this are a part of life.
1 Peter 4:12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. NIV This disaster is larger than normal but it is still natural. And so the question isn’t “why is this happening?” The question is, What can we do about it? What will God do through it.
this is a natural disaster with a spiritual purpose. God wants to use it to teach us. To challenge us. To change us.
This is a temporary problem that God wants to use for eternal significance. In a year the south will be well on its way to recovery. The question will be, what did God do to us through this process that will last forever.
Ah... why do bad things happen? So people can recognize & appreciate the good things. If there were no concept of "bad", then there could be no concept of "good". Life would be pretty boring if things always went as we expected.

Well Tyler is sure a city without sin!!!!!!

GOD GOOD!!! devil bad
anonymous #1 said not to believe everything you read.....
......might not oughta believe everything you see either?
....even on a church sign!

Would it be considered "judgemental" to call people nuts?
Who are you to determine who nuts and who is not (in other words; liberal, tolerant, and unable to determine or discern right from wrong)?
Does it give Christianty a good name if you name call those who disagree nuts?
Questions, Questions!!! You are so right! I had no right to call them "nuts". I was trying to be nice and believe me I could have said worse! I think what this sign thing represents is just blatant insensitivity.
Down in the French Quarter, they have a drink called the "Hurricane". Saw folks drinking them when visiting New Orleans once. Huge things!
How would it be when these folks move back in and open their businesses, they would call these drinks, "Hurricane Katrinas"?
And that is precisely the point!
The church sign was in bad taste........period!

Which guy?
Read the blog titled ""Liberal vs. Tolerant vs. Compassionate "

Hey Im a preacher explain liberal christian?
Fred is your last name Flintstone?
It is absurd to suggest that just because you are a conservative you are like a member of the Aryan brotherhood. Your kind of thinking is just like the racial stereotyping that you liberals condemn. I doubt that many members of that church hold to white supremists ideas.

so thats a liberal thanks
Conservative who thinks Fred is Flintstone. Your views sound more stone-age. I suppose you think all liberals are without God.
No problem. Do you need me to define the Christian part for you as well?
sure
never said liberals are without God but your views differ from the bible explain please?
Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble following anon's view of Fred being of stonage views...???
any liberals out there want to explain their views, and how they line up with the bible
OK. We're getting serious here.

I meant Fred was bonehead like Flintstone. If you concluded that he was stone age that's not what I meant.
Dear Anon @ 3:09 pm: shhhh...just sssshhhhh... it's ok now.
Don't shsss me. and it was 3:08.

Jesus came to give us an abundant life.
The devil came to kill, steal and destroy.
He who is without sin cause the 1st stone.
"only believe"
Hehe, It's so hilarious listening to everyone get so riled up over stuff like this. This is some of the best entertainment there is.

Damn, this is a long thread.
Must be a Liberal Church
