"Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown is being removed from his role managing Hurricane Katrina relief efforts, The Associated Press has learned. "
Translated: We have got to get his face off of TV and do some damage control.

I still say its the local Gov, and state, and citys fault!lets remove the mayor, gov etc...
after reading the FW star today, i see that FEMA missed the boat on many things and was late for eveon more, but i still hold the first blame on local gov.
It is not the local governments fault. They evacuated as many people as they could. An estimated 1 million residents evacuated in a 24 hour period-which is unprecedented. The mayor even said that people need to leave. He couldn't force them to leave, so how the hell was it his fault? You people are a real piece of work. The dept. you should be looking into is the Homeland Security dept, and I use that term loosely. They knew as well. They were informed 3 days in advance, a hurricane was coming northbound towards New Orleans. But, they were not even prepared 3 days after Katrina came and left.
The top 3 of Homeland Security are Cheney's peeps. It's a good ole' boy system just like many organizations in America are. I think the N.O. Mayor did a good job for what he had to work with. The jury's still out on the governor, but FEMA is definitely at fault and the buck stops with Bush. This should have happened days ago.
I'm sorry, but you are completely wrong. It was the Mayor's job to tell the Gov. he needed help. When it went beyond her control, it was her job to call on the Federal Govt.
The Mayor did a good job evacuating-yes it was unprecidented, but he didn't ask for help.
If the Fed had moved in before someone called for help, you would have hear him cussing for whole different reason.
Don't get me wrong, FEMA screwed up their job big time when they hit the ground. How much sense does it take to get a Huey and make drops of bottled water to the Superdome and Convention Center.....never the less, it was the local and state govt that failed to ask for aid immediately.
atvtrlrdr, Actually, the mayor did ask for help. He declared New Orleans a disaster area 2 days before the Hurricane hit. The buck starts with the governor. Check this out: www.globalsierra.com/relief.pdf You will see that the governor asked for help before the storm as well. Read for yourself..
If you still don't believe this-here is the link straight from the state of Louisiana site: http://gov.louisiana.gov/Disaster%20Relief%20Request.pdf Maybe this will convince some of you, that the mayor did his part-contacted governor well in advance, and told her his city could not handle what was coming his way.

Bush gave Brown heaps of praise during his "briefing session" (which was nothing more than a media event).
......and now he's gone?
The whole thing was a fiasco from the top down.
I hope they have enough sense to learn from it.
