I hope the speakers focus on the poor business sense this makes and not beat the personal aspects of it to death. It is apparent the commissioners don't care about the personal aspects or they wouldn’t even be considering it.

After the EMS building I have no faith in our commissioners to make any good business sense. Nothing personal against them, but im am speaking of their track record!

Just like the mayor told me in my office a few yrs back, I was telling him my reason not to vote decatur wet ( beer sells) the mayor told me the reason he was pushing it so hard, they would take the tax money from the beer sales and repair the roads! well about to weeks ago I was reading the paper and guess what? City taxes are goning up! .5 to repair the roads! I told the mayor they said the same thing about the Texas Lottery it would fund the Texas schools! where is that money? any way I will get off my soap box now.

The sad thing is, I think the really believe what they are saying.

Hummmmmm - speaking of this court and their business sense, we have a meat cutter, a former sergeant for the highway patrol, a former county auditor who was fired by the District Judge, and another guy who was in some kind of business, plus a county judge who worked for American Airlines.

Oh well, maybe the judge can get these folks a discount on airline tickets. With all the heat on the hill, they may need to get outa Dodge for a while!

Just remember, the people of this county elected them to their office.

Good point #2 When the EMS Building Bid it was supposed to be a sealed Bid that was opened in Public and read in public, when the Bids were turned in we bidders were told the winner would be announced on a monday..the paper reported the winner that weekend, typical Redneck politics! oh well they got there building and they got what they paid for.. Bit you in the arse didn't Boys!

What I don't understand is that if the only problem with the current EMS service is the cost, then why don't the commissioners work with Mr. Dillard and the rest of the Wise County EMS personnel to make the service more financially efficient. That plans seems less risky to me personally, becuase if the commissioners choose to privatize the EMS, and then decide that they don't like it it will take 10 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars(tax payer's dollars) to get us back to the standard of care that we're currently at right now.

I agree with someone but they are anonymous. Why are the commissioners worried with the cost of the EMS, the TV and recliners when they spent an inordinate amount of money on the stupid building that should have been somewhere else in the first place. Most of these guys are lost. Yes, the people of Wise County voted them in because they seemed the best at the time. What does that tell us? YIKES.

I was told they had the land already given to them, but no the commissioners wanted the building that the EMS is in now, they said they could buy the building for around I think $150,000 0r $170,000. the owner of the building was reading the paper and seen the story, he was asking 1/2 that, he went down to the commissioners the next day and said pay me! Hey its only money right? our money!

I agree with Rusty and that is the good business sense that needs to be used. When in business you can outsource or improve your own efficiency and keep it in house. The new company (from what I hear) plans on raising rates; if the county did the same thing they would save money, duh.
The other thing I don't get is that the county has spoken; they don't want to switch to Careflight. These guys work for the people of the county and they need to listen. I appreciate them wanting to save money but find somewhere else. I would start with leasing out some of those beds at the jail.

I can't believe they are still considering the idea. 1) The people of the county have spoken and they don't want the change. 2) You know the money savings is a lie. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. My guess is they are teasing us with a low rate then they will come back and raise it. 3) The service they might offer could end costing someone their life because of poor response or training. Is it worth the risk?

When this proposal comes down to risk vs. benefits, it makes the commissioners look incompetent for even considering this change, becuase........
1. There are so many risk(life saftey, etc....)
2. There are no benefites that the taxpayers will ever see!

i guess if the commish cuts the EMS service, they think they can stay in office because with careflight there will be more deaths in the area, thus less voters to kick these guys out on election day. remember they spent a million on a building but claim to work hard enough to get pay raises while eliminating jobs for dozens of others. do they really deserve raises at the expense of the EMS? i think their raise is that building.

i cant beleive our elected officials are putting pricetags on lives.
you dont know the difference when it is someone else's mom or dad or child that dies because he or she did not recieve medical attention quick enough, but wait until its your spouse or family member dies because you put a pricetag on their life.
and by that point its already to late.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it

On a somewhat different subject, I don't think elected officials should be able to raise their own salary or adjust their benefit package. This includes all levels, state, local and federal. I don't know the right way to do it, but there has to be a better way than what we have.

In response to anon @ 1208 am, on the subject on elected officials controlling there own pay, "absolute power corrupts absolutely"

I just wish those folks could get something done. They drag projects out too long, and the meetings are ridiculously long.

Long meetings do accomplish some things: tired rears and bored ears.

I'm disappointed about this blog. I expected to have the opportunity to argue, but everyone seems to be on the same page. Oh well, better luck next time

Are they going to be able to find five people to speak for switching?
