"George Bush doesn’t care about black people."

You may have heard about Kanye West's rant the other night during the nationally televised concert to raise funds for the Red Cross to assist in the Katrina disaster. Here's the video of it but it's huge and will take a while to download. Two observations (1) Kanye ain't the smartest man in the world and (2) watching a very uncomfortable Michael Myers is the best part. Here's a transcript for quick viewing.

My people? When I see black, brown, white, blue, red etc... I don't say them or us or my people we all came from dirt! just different color dirt but still dirt!why do black people always say the white man is not for them?
I mean getting food is one thing! but walking out with DVD's TV etc...? Also it was mandtory to leave N.O. Why ddin't they leave? maybe that wanted to stay and loot the city? the city had a plan to use gov, and schools buses to bus people out of the city why didn't they go through with their paln? seems to me they didn't care about there own people! But I know all the Liberals blame Bush

I completely and totally agree with the looting aspect of your post. Taking loaves of bread and water is one thing...boxes of Nike shoes, armfuls of clothing, and cases of beer is another.

In defense of the majority of N.O. though...yes, it was mandatory for them to leave but most of those people haven't got 2 nickels to rub together and couldn't afford to just hop in the car and leave if they even had a car. I seriously doubt they stayed with the intent to loot the city. The city officials got caught with their pants down on this one and did not utilize their evacuation plan.

I think it is a shame that this all had to turn into a race thing. The bottom line is that we are helping. People all over the country are opening homes and Texas has already taken in nearly a quarter of a million people. I want to help those in need but I don't appreciate the attitude of the people when we are doing our best to help them. It makes me not want to help. I understand these people were poor before but that isn't our fault and it isn't our fault there was a hurricane and it isn't our fault that the evacation wasn't handled better. I know most of the people are greatful for the help but the few very vocal are leaving a bad taste in my mouth. We didn't cause this situation and turning it into a race thing just is wrong.

he is a racist and just wants to turn the table. people like him make me sick.

Once again, a black calling whites racist. And, if I may say, sounding utterly ignorant in the process.

I agree. While he is a partially decent lyricist that is it. I will admit he can't rap for squat, and all he talks about is how the white man puts black people down. Give me a break. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it? Yeah, we are the ones with White Entertainment Network, or White Starz f****g ridiculous.

Good post so far and I agree 100%. The key problems with this whole situation were the pre-planning. They didn't get people out and apparently weren't ready to handle the ones who stayed. They told people who couldn't leave to go to the Superdome or the convention center but they couldn't last a couple of days until help arrived. Sad.
When the help did arrive the focus should have been getting people help who were trapped or who weren't in shelters, but know they had to get the cry babies out of the shelters before they all killed each other.
They knew they were going to loose power duh, they knew the toilets weren't going to flush and they knew they were going to need food and water so why weren't they prepared. You don't hear other communities crying about the help.

I saw an evacuee on TV complaining because the lines were so long at the Astrodome to register and find out about their social security check. He said the government needed to do more.
