President On Anniversary of Death of Bin Laden

Let me guess. Some of you believe he is 'spiking the football' in this election year?

Yep. Pretty much. I guess you can't blame him. He is trying to keep the first real job he has ever had (outside of politics).

I liked the funny cartoon of him walking to the podium, saying "He's dead" then kicking the door open on the way out. Can you dig that up again?

Uppercase Matt said...

Let me guess, Barry -- you think it's a non-political coincidence that this was the day that Karzai was available for a chat and was cool with a press conference from their country.

I hope he puts on a flight suit and lands on a carrier, then declares the war to be over. That would be totally acceptable attention-whoring, right "conservatives"?

To all who are accusing the President of "politicizing" Bin Laden's death for the election- Call it that if you will, but Dubya did the SAME DAMN THING with his 9/11 response in the 2004 election. Go back and look at the ads. None of you had a problem with it when he did it. Why the double standard? Hypocrites...

Anonymous said...

Hypocrites!! The whole bunch of you...Now... figure out which side I'm talking about?!?!

You can't...hahahaha

Anonymous said...

Why the double standard? Because President Bush was an American. Idiot.

I'm still amazed at the number of you that think Uncle "O" is still the savior. What does it take to get you dumbasses to open your eyes? Total devastation of our way of life? Who do you suppose is gonna fund all these government run programs handing out free everything, from housing to healthcare, if no one is working and paying in taxes? The number of people riding the government tit just keeps rising, despite what you're being told by the media. When is enough gonna be enough?

Can't blame the guy for making presidential hay. I think anybody in his position would do something similar.
Did he jam his face into a splintered hole in the door and say "Wendy, I'm home!"? That's how I like to make a surprise entrance

Wonder if the Secret Service agents said "Afghanistan?! Meh. How about a layover in the Riviera? Ooh la la!"

For the record, I was appalled by the "mission accomplished" nonsense also. I am an equal opportunity critic. Unfortunately, too many people love that over the top pandering crap. I don't.

The primary difference is President Bush actually liked and admired the troops he visited. President Obama doesn't give a rat's ass about the military. Think of how many times President Bush visited the troops and the public did not find out until after the fact. He did not always take the press corps with him. President Obama's team has to hand pick servicemen to attend so he doesn't get his ass booed.

Your comments made me smile, big time. It's nice that at least a few commenters read this blog because the name of it reflects their attitudes.

And to those conservative commenters ..... you know you don't have to read this blog, right? Have you ever considered abstaining from clinking on this link...... or taking it off your FAVORITES? : )

My observation from a year ago: "Almost two and a half years after Democrats passed a trillion dollar stimulus bill, we still have 9% unemployment, the federal debt has increased 25%, gas prices are up (along with the price of everything else that requires gas,) people are still shaky about the economy and the latest polls show voters prefer Republicans over Democrats in handling the budget. Expect Obama to ride the bin Laden donkey for a long, long time."

Well, the economy slowed to 2.2% the first quarter of this year; the federal debt has increased by 47% since Obama took office; a couple million Americans are no longer considered "in the labor force" (and therefore not counted as "unemployed") -- no wonder Democrats are making such a to-do a year after bin Laden's death. Anything to distract from Obama's record.

Who cares,

Whether it be Donkey or Elephant we are screwed either way. Obammy got this job because he made promises that he couldn't keep. Same as G.W. Bush, same as Clinton, Same as H.W. Bush, same as Reagan, same as Carter, Same as..... Lord the list just keeps going.

I love the Stats that say, "under so and so it is the biggest deficit ever!!! or the highest unemployment ever!!! or the closest to Socialism ever!!. Guess what, the trend is progressive and has been since 1930 (arguably earlier), of course it will be the "Biggest Ever!!!" and the next politician... same thing.

Incidentally, Obama might want to be careful in Afghanistan. It's increasingly dangerous. More Americans have been killed there in the 40 months since Obama took office than during the entire Bush administration. That fact's all over the news, isn't it?

RC - Until the Tea Party gets its way, you're correct about the growing deficit. (So in that sense, the two parties are different. Republicans at least offer a chance.) However, the rate of growth since Obama took office is the alarming part -- especially since he vigorously denounced the deficit under Bush, even describing it as "unpatriotic."

Republican argument to Obama on why he needs to go -

”its taking you too long to clean up the mess we left you”

Now that is a compelling message.

wordkyle said...

552 - It must be quite comforting to you to tell yourself that's the Republican message. Liberals avoid cold hard facts as much as possible. But I see your point. After demonizing top income earners, demanding tax increases on earners (i.e., businesses, who avoided expanding and hiring out of uncertainty about taxes,) causing widespread angst in the business community by taking over car companies (and giving them to his unions) and demonizing other economic activities (e.g., conferencing in Las Vegas and private jet ownership,) increasing the federal debt at light speed and ramming through $2+ trillion in Democrat legislation/slush funds (while complaining about the lack of bipartisanship) --

-- well, who could expect Obama to have the time and energy to "clean up" any messes?

United we stand and devided we fall. This Joke of a president has done more to divide this country than any other. I'm a Liberal, not an idiot and I'm not going to vote for this Marxist.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Barry, I followed and supported Bush till the end....thought Obammy was a nut.....but I have come to see that he inherited essentially the second largest depression of in the last hundred years....and that he is struggling to pay the social security of the TEA party people that they don't want anyone else to have.....what a leader of the free world he has turned put to be.....I like Mittt.....but he should wait until '16 and continue to let Obammy get the economy back on track.

Anonymous said...

552 pm.....what do mean it's taking Obama tooo long to correct the republican mistakes?????? during Bush, our gas went to a 4.35....were we not doing excellent in wise county??? During bush.....EVERYONE had a home....Obama is restricting lending so that only those that can afford them gets one (not fair by the way) ... Bush implemented tax cuts so republicans would invest in the economy....it's because of us republicans that today our economy is on sound ground....not to be rude...but Bush had it going on!

wordkyle said...

Has anyone at all in the Obama administration -- much less Obama himself -- indicated that they know how to get anything "back on track?" Almost every economic indicator measurable has gotten worse since Obama & Co. took over -- is there anything like a reason for you to use such a phrase to describe what Obama "might" do (but has never done before?)

Politico reports that supporters of George W. Bush are “irked” that the former president isn’t getting more credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden, despite the droves of conservatives lawmakers and pundits who have been rushing to give Bush equal credit as Obama.

But this praise for Bush relies on rewriting history to obscure the fact Obama re-prioritized the hunt for Bin Laden after Bush had largely abandoned the effort to focus on Iraq.

While many conservatives are triumphantly replaying Bush’s September 2001 declaration that he would find Bin Laden, just months later, by Bush’s own account, he was unconcerned about the terrorist mastermind. Asked about the hunt for Bin Laden at a March, 2002 press conference, Bush said, “I truly am not that concerned about him. I am deeply concerned about Iraq.” “I really just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you,” Bush added.

By 2006, the trail for Bin Laden had gone “stone cold” and Weekly Standard editor Fred Barnes said Bush told him that hunting Bin Laden was “not a top priority use of American resources.” (Indeed, there was a flailing war in Iraq to fight.)

That year, it was revealed that the administration had shuttered the CIA’s Bin Laden unit in late 2005. As the New York Times reported at the time, the move reflected a shift in resources to Iraq:

Clearly, he's spiking the football!

He should keep it low key and tasteful.

Perhaps getting into a flight suit, flying into an aircraft carrier an then standing in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner.

Small get-together among friends, as opposed to, you know, bragging.

Osama is dead because Bush put the team in place, but the deficit and deaths in afghanistan are all obama's fault! Classic wordkyle reasoning.

Wordkyle, do YOU have the time and energy to toss YOUR hat in the ring to help clean up the Obama messes?

Put your money where your mouth is. You'll accomplish a lot more than your boring (bash Obama and the liberals) statistics that we see on this blog on and on and on and on.

Sheesh, don't you ever think about anything else?

wordkyle said...

819 - I do put my money where my mouth is -- two cents' worth at a time. It's true that facts and figures can be boring. I can also see where measuring performance using facts and figures might discomfit an Obama supporter. And you certainly wouldn't want to make decisions based on those things, right?

The "I hate facts" philosophy is similar to that of judging Obama based on what he might do, or could have done, rather than anything he actually does. (The Nobel Prize committee surely suffers from that.) On his desk is a plaque reading "The buck never gets here."

2:36 - I heard Wordy won it!

Anonymous said...

Wordkyle, what you fail to remember is that informed people (including liberals) know how to read and get the facts FOR THEMSELVES. If they process those facts differently from you, get over it.

Honor us with some new subjects now and then.

Can you?

wordkyle said...

111 - If you consider yourself one of the "informed," you will have noticed two things: 1) I almost never initiate the political discussion in this forum. When I post, it's usually in response to another's political comment, or to BG's post. 2) My screen name is placed prominently above every one of my comments. Feel free to skip over them.

For the sake of bandwidth, my response to your comments about "informed Liberals" who "process facts FOR THEMSELVES" will be brief. Anyone who posts an opinion in a semi-public forum should be prepared to defend that opinion. Presenting how one "processed the facts" and formed that opinion is a great way to defend it -- and Liberals in this forum rarely do so.
