I seem to remember something about some fires last week.

Ever notice how the news in Wise County is always cyclical (same stuff happens again and again)?

Hey Barry,

I see that the Decatur Fire Department is asking for more personel. They say because that the call volume has increased 10-15% over last year or so. Reason: They run on every snotty nose and stumped toe that Wise County EMS goes on. It is just a numbers game for them. For years they ran on call that they were needed for or asked for. This running on every call also runs up their diesel cost and equipment wear and tear.

Also DFD used to have over 25 true volunteers that would come out at a moments notice and do an excellent job. Now they require that the "volunteers" do X amount of hours per month or you cant be on the department. What happened to the meaning of volunteer?

Decatur also used to be very respected in the county and now think that the elite status of "paid" makes them better.

If they need more help they have 2 chiefs that could bunker up and work instead of riding around in their hooptie rides.

They amount of $ to staff the positions are low ball amounts just like the low ball amount they said it would take to build the station.

They now have enlisted powers of Decatur to try and strong arm the tax payers to anti up more. The police department is not up to full staff, why does DFD need to add employees?

A pissed tax payer of Decatur!!!

Ditto to all the above.

Some added points-

It is mentioned in the newspaper article all the out of town places that DFD has helped out at. Is the city reimbursed for this? And why should we add more firefighters so they can help out elsewhere?

Joe Lambert said the city is growing and that new businesses have opened. If this is the case where are the tax revenues to cover the increase in fire fighters?

How many calls does DFD handle for actual emergency that happen within the city of Decatur.

I'm tired of our elected officials always wanting more! I have lived here 10 years and in that time we have added a new high school and elementary in DISD, a new fire station, and new (renovated) police station, new hospital, added on to the county jail, new ambulance barn for the county, new animal control building.

What started this fire? Apparently the recent fire near Bridgeport was caused by a couple of young men burning garbage! During a burn ban! We don't need more firemen - we just need smarter citizens. And lock up the idiot law violators.

The new firehall was a fiasco from the get-go. The entire Young Elementary school was built quicker than this rag tag pile of crap. I would like to see what this building actually cost taxpayers.
