It would make more sense to pass legislation requiring all citizens within 1000 feet of an government official to be properly trained and armed to defend said official.
Looks like the tipoff that this guy is a dweeb is the "New York" label as much as any other descriptive term.

Sounds like Sheriff Sputnik out in Tuscon has some explaining to do. The left wing pot smoking liberal weenie that took his shooting orders from Obammy had been calling in death threats to the Pima County Community College, radio stations and bloggers. When told of the threats, the Sheriff Dept. said that the wacko was being well managed and not to worry. OOOOPS!
That would keep concealed carriers from protecting themselves and others while around elected officials....stupid!!
How are you going to know whether you are within 1000 feet of a government official at all times when carrying a gun. Say I own a convienience store and I keep a gun on me for protection and a government official comes in to get a snicker bar, red bull, and a pack of cigerattes; am I in violation of this law?
Yes, maybe this will work better than the 'hey, it's illegal for you to kill someone' law.
Make it a law that everyone only gets 1 bullet and they have to keep it in their shirt pocket.

I agree that everyone should carry. That way there will be someone around who is armed to take down the crazy shooters. That's the only way to keep the citizenry safe from this type of nut, to arm the regular citizen.
If memory serves, Barry, you have previously made comments on your blog that caused me to believe you were in favor of increased gun control. Did I misunderstand, or have you changed your position, or are you just ridiculing the proposal because a Repub proposed it?

My solution is to do a truly LITERAL interpretation of the Second Amendment. Everyone has the right to bear arms. The arms in place at the time of the approval of the Constitution. A muzzle loader. Pistol or long rifle. Every citizen. No other weapon permitted without checks, and tests, and backgrounding, and a cash bond posted, etc. Muzzle loaders only. Our Constitutional right. Yea, that's the ticket.

Skippy, You are right for once. This legislation,had it been in place beforehand,would have saved innocent lives because everyone knows they don't make guns that are effective over 1000 feet.

Ohhhhhh, it being illegal to shoot people in the head is not enough of a deterrent. Why did someone not, before now, merely make it illegal to have a gun within a 1000 feet of another person? Poof, just like magic, problem solved, no more murder!
What lawmakers tend to forget, law abiding people are not the people who break laws so making more laws is not the answer.
If they bring a knife to the fight, then we bring a gun and back up 1000 feet.
