I think there's a mathmatical formula where you can take all those number using a piefagorium theory or somethin and come up with the date 12-21-2012

Any reason it's titled "democraphics" on the spreadsheet? Is that supposed to be dem-o-crap-hics or democratic hicks translated from hillbilly language?

I wonder what the Southlake make up looks like ? Perhaps Mzchief could supply the information from her vast wealth of knowledge.

It looks like the niggers don't care a lot for ya'll. Least they don't seem to be moving in in droves.

And your point in posting this is?

White population has dropped 7.2% and hispanic population has increased 7%.

Are you disapointed that it still resembles the America you grew up in more than the rest of the country does?

Are you disapointed that it is slowly changing to resemble the rest of our country?

You ever notice it is the people of the liberal persuasion that are most fascinated with racial issues?

Maybe hispanics like to watch TV and that is the reason DHS is installing the new flatscreens. You are a freak'in moron for posting (calling attention to) this type of rascist crap. I know you will take the tack of saying "I'm only informing people of readily available facts", but we all know you are just race-baiting here in Wise county.

My daughter goes to Decatur High School. At a basketball game, I overheard some of the administrators discussing the TAKS and data! I think it is time that we take this issue to the school board. The taks is all they care about. Decatur High has to be giving students one of the worst educations. Its time to start teaching our students how to think and solve problems. I will be going to the school board to express my concerns of depriving my child from a solid education. The taks is no problem for my child, but they continue to drive this garbage down her throat. The conversation that I overheard and the use of words like "documenting" and "data" is alarming. Decatur High lacks leadership and am now considering home schooling my daughter. I would like to encourage everyone to attend the next meeting and to express any concerns.

8:22, the only race-baiters are those gov. officials who INSIST that all schools continue to report ethnicity of their students. I get so bloomin' tired of hearing STOP RACISM when dollars are decided by race. RACISM will not stop until we no longer report ethnicity. It shouldn't matter!! If we are all "equal" then drop the ethnicity reports! Think about it, if there were no reports "based on ethnicity"....then how could ANYONE scream "racism!"? America is the land of opportunity. We now have a black President...and Oprah Winfrey is one of the wealthiest people on Earth, EVER! How can blacks continue to holler racism? Obama and Oprah actually WORKED and EARNED their places in society. Funny how those who want to live on the earnings of others will be the first to declare people are racist.

What is it across the Sandy on the West side? The minority is the white kid.

I have 2 agree with 8:22! Y is this important again ?! I dnt see the importance of informing the public of this petty info!

Race-Baiting ... U do that alot!

9:01, as a teacher, believe me, your words about the TAKS will not do one bit of good at a school board meeting. The state's
TEA (Texas Education Agency) is to blame. Call them! Schools are just following the LAW. Do you think administrators will yank the test if you complain? It's the LAW. Take it to the lawmakers.
Most teachers I know do teach an entire curriculum, but "reminders" are given when objectives within the lessons are TAKS objectives. We do teach what will be covered on the test, but that is not ALL that is taught. If you overheard admin discussing "data" and "documentation", I'm sure it is because TAKS season is upon us and if the schools make any itty bitty teensy weensy mistake in their reporting (documentation) then there is hell to pay. If you or anyone can stop TAKS, be our guest! All educators would be very very happy to see that! Go get 'em!!!

This is a link to the racial demographics of Carroll ISD.

Please note, the State Average of white students is 35% and Carroll ISD's is 87%.

Sorry it took so long to respond. I did not bother to read what I was assured would be nothing but racial slurs and weak attempts at excusing the UNDER PERFORMANCE of Bridgeport and Decatur ISDs.

I worked my way up to Masterbaiter until the One-Stop closed and now I have an application in at the Raceway so I hope I make to a Race Baiter there.

It's my dream.

The teachers in DISD discuss TAKS because that is what ties us to state money--TAKS performance. Take it up with Austin and the teachers will forever thank you. It isn't the only thing taught, but it is what is measured. Kids in DISD are getting a good education, as good as anyone in the state. I'm a retired educator and I wouldn't homeschool a child. There is no way the majority of the parents can do an adequate job of every subject. That's why we have professionals in those subjects. There's so much more to learn in school than in books--accountability, socializing with people not like you, leadership, the arts, etc. The educators in DISD are very good.
Usually when someone doesn't like a teacher, it's because the teacher has made a child accountable and parents don't always like for their darlings to be in trouble!

Anonymous said...

Well it sure sounds like you may be the one I overheard at the basketball game! Do you think that I am an idiot? I am aware that the TAKS is statewide, however, the way in which a school manages the environment varies from school to school. I heard it at the game myself. The administrators at DHS are whipping every student and teachers ass on that campus. Based on my observation from their conversation, their objective in educating my child is quite different from mine.

I would like to see those stats on ALL Wise County schools........

I have a better question. Decatur has grown by 245 students since 2000 and since that time we have built a new High School and they say we now need a new elementary school. The numbers don't add up. The only thing that is going up is our taxes to staff this half empty new school. The brakes need to be put on this project.

Parental ignorance re TAKS is astounding.

The state determines what is to be taught in each subject. Certain essential knowledge and skills...thus the TEKS. The TAKS is simple a test in the spring that measures both how well these two (TEKS) were taught as well as learned. Every good teacher teaches so much more than what is on the TAKS.

Parents shouldn't be satisfied about scoring a passing score on these test, but scoring a "commended" score on this test.
A passing score is often less than answering 50% of the questions correctly. You have accomplished very little if you only passed the TAKS.

As an educator, I am ashamed to admit that in some cases, if it were not for the TEKS and the TAKS, not much but X's and O's would be taught.

So get a grip lady, roll up your sleeves and don't be satisfied until the school your kid goes to is EXEMPLARY, based on these TAKS Test. Southlake HS is EXEMPLARY That is why people move to Southlake.

Administrators as well as schools get a "Report Card" and I am sure the conversations you overheard reflected their desire for that card to be positive........as in Southlake positive. Good for them.

And finally lady, there are other kids in the room besides yours, so if your kids has mastered everything, maybe it is time for dual credit courses at Weatherford, AP classes, or on to college.

try taking your child to the elementary schools. it wont be to much longer before the little kids are tugging on my pants, chanting "chicklets, chicklets, chicklets"!

1:14,

Actually Decatur ISD has grown by over 600 students since 2000. 2,908 was the enrollment as of last year. This year, it is over 3,000. DHS has about 900 this year, DMS has 480, DIS has 475, Rann has 850, and Carson has a little over 700. Notice that Rann is nearing capacity again like it was back before they built Carson when it was Decatur Elementary. A new elementary school is definitely needed as Decatur ISD is going to keep growing for a very long time and by more and more each year.

Now I am very alarmed about what is going on at DHS. You just admitted that your numbers is all you care about. Why is it that administrators in Decatur suffer from Southlake envy? Could you not get a job there? I am not the only parent that is getting alarmed by this attitude. Dont you think that it is transparent with the kids? If you want to talk numbers, lets do the math. Decatur has many hispanics who probably bring down your magic number which damages your performance appraisal. Last time I checked, Southlake doesnt have the same demographic as Decatur. If you broke down the demograhic by race, I would dare to say that Decatur is just as competitive as Southlake. Finally, I would like to set the record straight. I am a father, who moved from Southlake to Decatur for the country living and great Mexican food. It appears that this culture is putting a severe strain on your annual evaluation. Therefore, you have to take your frustrations out on my daughter and her teachers. I was not a fan of Southlake, but there teachers were much happier than those at DHS.

To Anonymous 1:14:
In 1995, Decatur ISD had 4 schools. In 2009, Decatur has 5 schools. The school district has grown 1,000 students. The district is not just growing one campus at a time.

Well, you know the old saying "you can't make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t."

Think about that when you talk about scores in Southlake vs Decatur. It does make a difference about the HOME that the kids come from. Teachers can't work miracles on every kid.

Let’s do the math together:

2908 - 2663 = 245

That is not 600.

As far as the “we will keep growing” theory, the growth has slowed down. The increase in the last five years was 64 kids. Maybe the school board believes the crap you give them but numbers don't lie.

Wake up Decatur before it is too late!

If DHS is desperately trying to compare itself to Southlake then they should take a look at Kyle Story. Last time I checked Southlake has won multiple State Championships. Is DHS putting the same strain on Kyle Story as they are their teachers?

I do not teach in DISD (my school's demographics are much closer to Southlake), and my children did not graduate from DISD. I have no stake in the opinions people have of DISD. However, I do not like to see any school attacked unfairly.

My friends at Decatur High School tell me that things are pretty darn good right now. They are happier than they have ever been, and they feel that the principal is working WITH them, not simply giving directives.

I noticed in your post that you used the words "you" and "your" a great deal. It's as though, even though your child attends DHS, you do not consider it "our" school. You also mentioned that you were not a fan of Southlake. Now you don't seem to be a fan of Decatur. I sense a pattern...

Let me clue you in a little bit. You've probably heard in relation to sports, "It's more about the Jimmie's and Joe's than the X's and O's." Same holds true in education.

Check the demographics of the state football championship teams and check the demographics of the top "exemplary" rated campuses in high school.

I'm pretty sure even a liberal can figure that one out.

"Where have you gone Joe Dimaggio, umm I mean Todd Dodge?" Not too many state titles lately are there?

Anonymous said...

I remember a few years when DHS was EXEMPLARY. Then the teachers started leaving, either for better paying jobs, or because they got sick of the "meetings to juvinate paperwork", OR, they were sick of the BS of the last administrator there, or they were so tired of athletic coaches (not winning) who continued to get huge raises while they (teachers who taught the students who earned the exemplary status)got not one dime more. I blame the school board for allowing ALL of the above. There were many wonderful teachers and now they are all at other districts.

Anonymous said...

Hey Peter King, There was a cocah in Southlake before Todd Dodge and he has a few titles on his shelf. Maybe Decatur should change their freakin colors to green and white? When we moved to Decatur, the real estate agent told us that the people there are very nice, but they are all $30,000 millionaires. We have have been here a few years now and this is so true. You push your teachers so the students can be like Southlake and now your comparing their football team. Why not strive for improvement compared to the last year? How about creating a positive environment for teachers, this trickels down to the students and is a win win for everyone.

Let's just look at what has happened in California as the Hispanic population has grown. Educational performance has plummeted since the 70's.

I'm not a racist. I'm actually a Hispanic who owns a small business and whose family have been legal US citizens since 1956.

I will just say that one person’s opinion of "getting an education" does not equal the opinion of other persons.

And BTW, no way I was identifying myself on that last post. It would literally kill my business as the people on this blog sough justice!

What would Darwin say about the varous test scores reported on the TEA website?

Obviously some of you do not keep up with the many accomplishments and accolades that Decatur High School continues to accumulate. From sports, to fine arts, academics the students and the teachers are awarded for their exemplary programs and performances. Read and learn. Some of the best programs in the state and nation are located on the hill. Just an observant parent whose student is a successfuly student at DHS......

To all you who think DHS teachers and students are so unhappy--

I am a DHS teacher and I am NOT unhappy. In fact, quite the contrary. I've been there for several years, and this is the best year, by far, in a long time.

The new DHS administration, mixed with the returning APs are making DHS a great place to be.

Don't say we're all unhappy unless you talk to us; it's simply not true.

Who is comparing DHS to Southlake? I am at DHS, and I NEVER hear of that!
