Opening Ceremony

I'm a little in awe . . . you must watch the opening drum ceremony of the Olympics. That was 2,008 Chinese drummers. Bob Costas put it best: "It is both awe inspiring and intimidating." Boy, is it. I had chills. Pics later. I'm rolling TIVO on it.

Yeah, it's awe inspiring all right. Whales, peace on earth, and all that jazz. Maybe they'll do a performance based on their policy of killing all girls that are born to Chinese families that already have the maximum one allowed.

Watching the closing ceremony of the opening ceremony. Awesome fire works display!! Felt bad for the cheerleaders that stand in one spot and cheer as all the athletes enter the stadium FOR OVER TWO HOURS!! That probably sounded like a great honor for about 15 minutes, then just plain agony. I look forward to the games though.

"I mean, there's only so much organ I can handle in 90 minutes."

-Has nothing to do with anything, it's from a movie review and It was better than the movie.

It was just the most amazing display of precision, talent and discipline ever!.......and to say the person who choreographed and designed this is a genius is just an understatement.

Awesome!

Chills isn't the only thing I felt. My eyes teared up. Absolutely beautiful.

That whole thing was awesome and very impressive. I loved what Bob Costas said when those martial artists were running around, something to the effect of, "one little mis-step and we'll have craniums colliding at high speed". Probably not word for word, but I had to rewind it several times because it was so funny.

I was impressed with the story of that little Chinese boy who survived their horrible earthquake, wow, what a kid.

The opening pageant was just amazing.

It will be difficult for Americans to admit, but the 21st century will be China and India's time. We've had a good run, but China is over-taking us in every way. And while we have a much bigger military, China owns our treasury. So they may be buying our aircraft carriers, planes and the pilots, too. They'll soon own the world's economy. Hope they'll be nice towards us.

Another interesting sight was the low key entrance of Bush and Laura. They were so out-classed and after him making such an ass out of himself with the Chinese, he probably should have been banned from the opening ceremonies.

Couldn't help but feel sorry for Laura. She is a really nice lady.

For more beautiful Chinese stuff, I encourage you to watch "The Curse of the Golden Flower", an epic movie about the Tang dynasty. The cinematography is beautiful, and the subtitles aren't too hard to deal with.

As for the Olympics opening ceremony last night, my favorite was the typeface boxes. The whole thing was totally fascinating and excellent.

12:59 - I totally agree. The Chinese are incredible in so many areas. We should be extending warmth rather than hostility and criticism from our President.

Shame on him!!

I have a fascination with all things Asian, I guess, because I was named after my father's houseboy during his tour of the Korean War.

My father was a Mosquito Pilot; prior to that he was a bomber pilot in WWII, flying many different airplanes during that time. I admire him most times, but sometimes think of him as pretty much an arsehole. I guess it's because he bombed and killed so many innocents, and he feels bad about that, but we just don't talk about it.

Back to the Asian thing, the boy's name was Kim. My father wrote letters to my mom about him, and I, being their third born child, was destined to be named Kim, regardless of whether I was a boy or a girl.

And, Dad shipped some really cool Asian stuff to my mom while he was over there.

So, I sort of have this affliction for all things Asian. I have been to Tokyo, Hong Kong and that creepy, very scary place right across the bay, which was in China. Kowloon, I think it was.

Sure was neat seing our prez there. Good example to the government over there.....Can you imagine how jealous the Chinese public is of us, the American public? Sad world over there....we have it so good over here.

BTW.....Every YouTube video ofthe ceremony has been pulled. Anyone know where I can see the opening cereont in it's entirety? Are they going to replay it?

Be nice to your enemies. Maybe they will be nice to us while stabbing us in the back.

WOW, did you catch those Kanji characters when they counted down from 10 to 1? Lots better than those Roman Numerals you see on some clocks!
Do we have any sister cities in China for any towns in Wise County?

"Intimidating" is exactly what the chi coms were going for in this 40 bil dollar effort to assert themselves politically while their own peasants starve to death and die of disease while umpteen gajillion are still homeless from an earthquake

Andrew Jackson did the same thing for the native tribes! "Same kind of different as me" really fits!
