Decatur Teacher Asked To Drop Out Of Race

Decatur teacher Jason Jordan is running for the Texas House. An emailer points out that that a former Texas representative has asked Jordan (and two other Libertarians) to drop out so as to not take away votes from the Republicans (which could possibly lead to a Democratic victory.)

Sidenote: I think this would be a bigger story if the head of the Texas Republicans had made the call.

Sidenote #2: I think there would be a lot more Libertarians out there if people simply knew what the party stood for.

I think I might be a libertarian.

When I mention my views on social responsibility and gun control people scream conservative.

When I mention my views on the hopelessness of the drug war and the death penalty they scream liberal.

If we are guided by reason, a modest understanding of human behavior and the Constitution, we'd all apparently be Libertarians for lack of a better term.

If you live in Denton, get to know Jason Jordan's candidacy. You would be in for a refresing surprised. He is wise far beyond his 25 years, extremely smart, and has more integrity in his little finger than most politicians have in total.

I teach with him at Decatur High School, and I would love to be able to vote for him.
The only thing I have been able to vote for him is a vote for him to be on our site-based committee-a thankless & time-consuming task; in spite of that, he remained my friend and represented our social studies department quite well. ;)

A Libertarian is a Republican with no sense of ethics!

LOLbertarian. Ron Paultards are the standard libertarian. We don't want that.

11:49 you are full of it..a libertarian is a democrat with ethical standards and common sense..!!

My own thought is that most Libertarians would lean to the Conservative side -- smaller government, for example. Wouldn't the Libertarian candidate draw more voters from Conservative Republicans than from Liberal Democrats?

Whether stupid or smart, pointless or effective, the request shows an awareness of the political realities. the Libertarian candidate above a local level usually has zero chance of winning. It merely takes votes away from the main parties, who are going to win 99.9% of all elections. A vote for the Libertarian candidate helps Democrats. One would assume a Green Party candidate would have the opposite effect.

smaller government my ass, that's bullshit and you know it..all of you who enable those thieves deserve to have your f'n heads chopped off along with all the liberals and conservatives, all are corrupt..!!

I agree with 11.13. I also teach with Jason at DHS. He is a quality person and doesn't play the "republican" and "democratic" game. Read, think and make an educated decision.

2:52 - I don't think so!

This young man likely has the best interests (politically) at heart, but unfortunately he can't make any headway unless he unites himself with a major political party - even if he does that and enters the race with good intentions, something will happen along the way - called "Greed" and "Power" and unless he isn't willing to go along, he will be absolutely gobbled up by that system.

Most politicians are bought and paid for..... at least on the State and National Level. And the interesting part is that WE keep voting for them. Why is that?

Only God can understand and straighten out this country.

12:41---Democrats are nothing more than Socialists who want to redistribute the wealth.

"Only God can understand and straighten out this country."

It seems like god is the one who foorked it up to begin with.

I think this young man will learn with a little experience.
The "I'm just a normal hard workin' guy that thinks our government can be fixed by me, an honest guy" platform will be neat idea for a while.
This is a good ploy to get his name out there.

However, as he will soon find out, it doesn't work that way. It will, however give his student something to talk about in class. I wish him luck.....but if takes key votes away from the republican candidate, he will have caused more harm than good.

233 - Get some help. You spend too much time riding on Greyhound.

'nuff sed.

Yep, 'nuff sed to you too Wordkyle.

We all come on here and have all the answers about government, but most of us have never run for office, much less have been elected to one.

I truly wish Jason a lot of luck. However, if Ms. Hupp was to call and ask me to drop out of the race I would let her know that anything was possible for the right amount of Money. And, that particular amount could be discussed over a Martini and Cigarette at my place, say around 7:00.
On the other hand, what a joke!!
Guy's are afraid of losing so someone like Jason is asked to step down? What's wrong? Is the present Republican afraid he's going to have to find a real job?
What a Tit!!
11:49 that cracks me up," A Libertarian is a Republican with no sense of ethics"? Therefore, are you saying a Republican has ethics? Ain't that one of them there Oxymorons?
I have always considered myself a Republican but I have to say, I have never become so disaappointed in a party as I have the Republicans. They have all mostly become a bunch of wet noodles who will bow down to anything and anybody, as well as turn on their own colleagues just to get re-elected. Not having the balls to stand firm and hold their ground should cost them an election. Jason my friend, I wish you a lot of luck and if you are elected please don't let all the back-scratching in Austin ruin your goals, plans, morals and beliefs. Bottom line, we need to vote all the blood-sucking leaches out of office, on both sides of the isle and replace them with people like Jason who have not been swayed by the Lobbyist as Phil King has.
Politics, what a joke and we're afraid there is nothing we can do about it because they have it like they want it in Austin. I say BS, vote them all out of Office and start all over, let's began with term limits.

two-five-too - Wipe your mouth! You got it all over it.

7:38 - I like the way you think, and wish Jason well too.

You are as disappointed with Republicans as I am with Democrats.

All of it now is just "politics as usual"...so boring.

Maybe someone like Jason can bring some integrity that we need. And I'd vote for almost anybody BUT Phil the Bible boy.

ANYBODY!
