- For those that enjoyed the book Into Thin Air, there could now be a Part 2 based upon what just took place on the second highest mountain in the world, K2. Of all the ways I've contemplated my death, freezing is not at the top of the list.
- When did all businesses start using the phrase, "we'll do our due diligence"? It's a legal term which has been thrown around left and right over the last five years. But it's being used as a replacement for, "we'll check out all the facts and see if it's a good deal."
- The Ticket had "towel talk" this morning. Question on the table: Do you reuse your shower towel and, if so, how often? Most of the boys said they use only one or two different towels per week.
- Speaking of talk radio, I hate the phrase, "well let's agree to disagree."
- Paris Hilton spoof commercial in response to the silly John McCain ad. Not that funny.
- With yet another exoneration out of Dallas County yesterday, former DA Henry Wade's legacy continues to take a hit. My footnote: My dad actually pointed him out in downtown Dallas when we ate at the Holiday Inn restaurant (about 25 years ago.)
- D. R. Horton, which continues to bleed money, had to be reckless with its expansion during the "good times." Did they do their due diligence?
- Hot baseball opinion: I wouldn't let C.J. Wilson come in as a closer for the Alvord Bulldogs.
- I bought some Coke Zero yesterday in those squatty little cans.
- I always have to drive into the heart of Fort Worth for driver's license hearings and have done so for years. But I've noticed something: There's less traffic lately (which my team of scientists attribute to higher gas prices.)
- It was about two months ago when I finally figured out what the acronym "DIY" meant
- I've almost gone debit card exclusive. I went for two weeks with not a single dollar in my wallet and got along just fine.
- President Bush holds the record for presidential vacation days: 506 and counting. I'm all for it - preferably without any type of communication devices.
- Some of you guys dogged Bill Clinton yesterday. Time will tell: One of the best Presidents ever. (Those without sin think otherwise - and, man, there's a bunch of them.)
- I like the way these girls look.
- I love The Ticket's fake Nolan Ryan.
- I downloaded 4,213 KB of data to view the Internet over my iPhone at the Cancun airport ( that would be the equivalent of one song) and it cost me $83.16 due to international charges.
- I've downloaded, but haven't listed to, The Shack.
- The guy who will threaten to jump off of an overpass in front of a bunch of cops never does
- Terrell Owens is selling T-shirts which seem to infringe on Apple's "i" thingy.
- Cowboys coach Wade Phillips' cap is about three sizes too small.
- The Brett Favre saga is a beating. He and his coach yesterday had a closed door meeting yesterday that lasted over five hours. I couldn't talk to anyone for five hours.
- I above picture, if the Flickr description was correct, was taken on Lake Lewisville.
- Edit: An emailer points out that there are no deaths or funerals reported in today's Update which is probably a record.

What is stupid about McCain and his handlers is that they likely thought since the Hilton and Spears families contributed to his Presidential campaign, this gave them the right to use Paris and Britney's names in ads.
And we thought only Democrats did this?
Don't trust any of them anymore.
Well I expected to open up your blog and see the Principal of Carson Elementary as your big picture. Of course, I then realized she has on way too many clothes, but the pose is about right. I guess all those little K-4 boys will have their first pin-up picture (one of many throughout their life)! It's one of those "what were you thinking" pictures! But then she is a Principal and she has "no class"! (that's a school joke not a personal attack)!
hey Barry, C.J. Wilson was trying to pitch through a case of bone spurs in his elbow these past few games. He went on the disabled list last night (or this morning, officially) and could be done for the season...a little compassion, please?
bg, iv been reading the blog and commenting for yrs now, but i must complain.
you post 20+ thoughts in on entry and it makes it very difficult to even get into the flow of the libs vs the conservitives, and all this dribble that no one cares about.
i know your a liberal, i dont think you can be an attorny and not be. i know your candidate is going down everytime he opens his mouth, but dont be embaressed, you almost had hillary. but please seperate some of the good stuff so we can read the comments in a fluid way.
with this multiple thoughts in one posting it reads like my 13 yr old daughters text messages.
That chick reminds of the statue of the little Negro child holding a lantern at the end of my driveway.
Dad got it cheap at a yard sale in the 60's.
It's kinda funny.
The Shack is a great book. It will definately make you think about your relationship with the Trinity. I loved it.
debit card usage: I'm on the bandwagon with you. Just about everything goes on the card. My rule of thumb is this: less than $5.00, I pay cash; anything over that, I use the card
Towel talk: I always use an ovesize towel at home. The towels they give you at Fit-n-wise seem postage stamp-size by comparison
Hot baseball opinion: CJ Wilson always seemed a little too cocky. Some closers need to be that way, but he seemed too vain and showy about it. I like the way Wash dealt with it last night. Grabbed him by the arm, pulled him back to the mound and made him hand the ball over
Comment about previous comment: The Hiltons are old money and probably throw that money around quite liberally to lots of politicians. I would be shocked if any Spears money went to political causes
Beg to differ....Paris HIlton commercial is genious. See you at the debate bitches!! Terrell's shirt is just really stupid.
I like your thoughts, Barry, and posting them randomly is probably a time saver to you. Reading them randomly is fun for me.
8:48 - quit being so controlling; it's Barry blog; he can do what he wants. Stick to controlling your 13 year old daughter -at least you have some authority there.
Dare I ask?
What does DIY stand for?
I agree, Barry, about Clinton. Time will tell; only History's look back can evaluate what a President did or didn't do and the results of it.
The Clinton-haters just go crazy over his womanizing. Well, I wouldn't want to be married to him, but I sure liked him as my president. Those are 2 entirely different things.
I started to go over his accomoplishments but then someone will say something stupid like he killed people, etc, all those things those crazy right wing nuts claim, with absolutely no proof - they just wish he was bad............ maybe because he was that good. I better stay away from psycho-analysis - I am admittedly over my head there.
what picture of the Carson principal? Would like to see what you are talking about?
8:48 ~ it looks like your 13 year old daughter composed your comment.
Frightening that someone who can't write a simple statement without 10 spelling/grammatical errors is allowed to procreate.
DIY...do it yourself
Barry - please don't tell me that you are on the C.J. bandwagon also. I think he is a great guy that happens to be struggling on the mound. He has some issues that he needs to take care of. If Wash knew that he had bone spurs, why did he keep putting him out there? Being a baseball player is only one aspect of his life. He is a positive role model for young people. He promotes straightedge which is a drug and alcohol free lifestyle. He has also raised thousands of dollars for children through guitar hero challenges. He raised funds to have a video game room built at Cooks Childrens Medical Center, and the August charity event is for Scottish Rite hospital. He is a well rounded guy that has an appreciation for reading, writing, blogging, traveling, and community involvement. I think he was extremely emotional last night because his poor performance was confirmation that he would be moving to the disabled list. Go easy on the guy. He is passionate about his game and often shows emotion. Check out his blog and myspace. You will see that he is a good guy. http://cjwilson.mlblogs.com/

9:18, Time has already told the Bill Clinton story. The Womanizer part is small potatos compared to giving secrects to the Chinese, compared to accepting money from the Chinese, compared to lying "Under Oath", compared to being disbarred in the State of Arkansas, compared to not catching Osama when he had the chance, compared to being a fake and compared to turning his back on nearly everyone that ever assisted him in his career. And hell, his wife is no different. When you will take residence in a State you'v never lived in just to obtain public office, not let your secret service detail live in your mansion and have the U.S. taxpayers pay for them to have a home outside with an office that cost "US" $500,000.00 which raised the value of their home, yea, they're good people. They care about everyone. Wake up for gosh sakes and quit living in the dream the Clintons want everyone to believe they are in. They are both scam artist of the highest quality. For gosh sakes Hill attempted to get everyone to believe she was under fire when she went to Kosovo. Have you not figured out they are both Liars?
8:24....
Please enlighten all of us on this "photo" that you are mentioning concerning the Carson principal. If you are going to bring something up to attack this person, then you should be able to back it up with some proof when requested.
Wasn't Clinton getting a blow job when the U.S.S Cole was attacked?Should Clinton not be held responsible for the 911 attack on America because he refused the proposal from the CIA to take out the enemy leader who they advised was dangerous.
You liberals have some sort of disease or virus that makes you incapable of rationalism. Your latest stupidity that is hurting our country is the refusual to allow drilling in Alaska and off the Flordia coast.
Meanwhile we have a huge inbalance of trade with a culture that hates us because of our freedoms, religious tolerance, and other values. They are buying up American real estate and American factories with dollars accumuliated through the imbalance of trade.
Do you want your children and grand children to live in a world dominated by Arab religion and values? Already you are willing to accept one of them as your president who, like his minister, claims to have converted to Christianity. First you elect one that converted and next you will be willing to accept one that has not. That evil empire is creeping into control of our country. And they hate us. Funny thing, they selected a liberal stronghold (NY) as their first target for their holy war.
sorry Jarhead i wasnt spending alot of effort on my spelling and grammer. my 13yr old would have done much better.
Barry, it's, "those without sin, cast the first stone." It was used when some real Church(ie) guy's thought they were doing the right thing by dragging a woman before him who they caught having an affair. Jesus "schooled-em" on how they should treat people. Funny, the Liberal side seems to always have something to say when conservatives use Biblical references but when it plays to their side they are all over it, sitting on the front row, being Sunday morning greeters and hollering Amen!! The Bible doesn't say to ignore the truth. Christ confronted those in the Temple, we're just confronting the Clinton's. Not that we compare ourselves to Christ but, you know what I mean. O.K., now, everyone clobber me.
BG - I know bait when I see it. (Doesn't mean I'm not gonna bite, though....)
Re: Paris Hilton. Anyone with whom Paris Hilton's opinion carries any weight is probably going to vote Democrat anyway.
Re: Clinton. His on-the-job affair with an intern 27 years younger than him was simply the confirmation of what we believed about him. It proved that he was indeed an unscrupulous liar.
More important were things like:
- His attempt to cram socialized medicine down the throats of Americans, headed by his wife;
- His insistence on using the US legal system to "prosecute" terrorists -- and his refusal to take bin Laden when Sudan offered him -- which culminated in 9/11;
- Clinton's (and Madeline Albright's) appeasement to North Korea which sent millions of barrels of oil to North Korea without their having to fulfill their obligations.
There's more, but you get the point. The Lewinsky scandal is a straw dog that Clinton-worshippers try to use to divert attention from what Conservatives are actually saying.
8:48/10:09,
I apologize for jumping all over your post. I'm a little on edge this morning because of a post I did on my former neighborhood and it's water problems.
My real estate agent called me and yelled at me for being a bad blogger and making her job harder and so I took my anger out on you. I know picking on someone's spelling and grammar is petty so I hope you accept my apology.
Humbled,
Jarhead
somtimes those who threaten to jump do... http://www.break.com/index/failed-suicide-attempt.html
Thanks, 9:27.
hey 9:12
didnt try to controll anything.
said im a fan, just complained.
i think thats kinda the purpose of a blog. so you can bitch about whatever.
we all know we're not gonna change the world.
You can turn off international data roaming on your iPhone. Settings > General > Network > Data Roaming. Find an open WiFi spot, and browse for free. If AT&T ever decides to provide a service they said they would, there would be free WiFi for iPhone owners at AT&T hotspots. Its been rolled out and pulled -- twice.
Photo of Carson Principal is on front page on Messenger. Link:
http://www.wcmessenger.com/news/index.php
I'm not impressed. It is an inappropriate picture for a principal to make! Makes me wonder just what kind of professional leader she will be. Pic does not speak "PROFESSIONAL" at all.
The picture of the elementary principal is cute - give the lady a chance. She looks like a fun elementary principal. That school is full of kids from age 4 to 9, isn't it? They need energetic people like her pose seems to imply.
Let's don't always be so cynical and quick to judge, especially based on a picture. The message I got from that picture is that she has Eagle Spirit.
Hey, Hey, Hey...draw in the claws! This is a Blog. It's called, "Give your opinion!" I did not "attack" anyone. I know the principal and she will make a good one. I just think it was a poor choice of a picture! My OPINION!!!! 8:24 I can't blog 24/7, I have a life!!!
That's professional!!!Being a first year principal why would you agree to do that? Why was she the "chosen" one for the front page?UMMMMM...........
No one said it wasn't "cute"! I probably don't agree with you on the "energetic pose" part. I think she could have posed a little differently for 4 to 9 year olds. BUT now a days everybody pretty much does whatever they want to!!
I read "The Shack" and it was interesting, enlightening, thought provoking, and just a good book. I intend to pass it on!
The picture is just a fun photo for kids to see that she has school spirit and a personality. You people are making something out of nothing. I don't see any harm done. After all, she is working with kids. Would you be more impressed had she been wearing a three piece suit, an intimidating glare, and seem unapproachable to the students? Give the lady a chance.
some one explain to me how that is a bad picture of the Principal???? shes doing the Heisman pose, big freaking deal. she looks pretty hot too. not a damn thing wrong with that pic, just other woman wishing they could look as good as her!!!
wurdy, i can't believe you left out the most corrupt part of the clinton presidency...all those pardons they sold.. to me that should have been prosecuted..
and how about all the shit hillary stole from the white house when they moved..??
Okay 1:52 that is the point! You said, and I quote, "she looks pretty hot"! That's what I would want my 6 to 9 year old to see from a principal.
I am not attacking her! She is great! I do know her personally. She will make a great principal. BUT the picture is inappropriate!!!! "Looking hot" on the front page of the Messenger is not the pose for a principal. I wouldn't want to see the men principals up there either in a sexy pose! No wonder some educators have a problem knowing who to teach and who to have sex with!!
Someone said "fun" photo, someone else said "Hot" photo! There you have it..OPINIONS..! We all have them and some of us will NEVER agree, but the world and education will still go around!! Thank goodness!!
Okay BG.. I never do this blogging very much! How do you have the last word? (Just quit blogging) is that the only way! Wow! That's not fun!
I guess everything has its downside!
Give me a break! It is a fun photo. It is about time that they had a fun photo of a principal instead of the ones that are usually run that show the principal in a suit sitting behind their desk looking all serious.
If this is all that you have to worry about every day, then I have a recommendation for you:
GET A LIFE!
Hey, we are both blogging! I would say we probably have about the same kind of life (undoubtedly)!
You can't tell me that there isn't a middle road between stuffy serious and sexy! That's all I'm saying.
Wow!! GET A LIFE!! Now that hurt!!!
It appears that most of the posts opposed to the picture of the elem. principal are by one person. This one person also says she knows the principal and thinks she will do a good job. My question to the disgruntles poster - If that's what you think, why in the world are you making all these remarks about that pose? You are reading things into it that others are not.
With friends like you............... you know the saying.
It also appears that only one person is defending the picture. I guess we are pretty much just having our own conversation. Isn't this fun!!1
I think the point pretty much went over your head. Some of us were raised with more morals than others!
The pose is not appropriate for 6 to 9 year olds. Conversation over!!!
I'm hanging up!
2:23 If you know her personally as you claim then why didn't you talk to her about your concerns personally. Wow, have you ever heard the old saying - who needs enemies when I have friends like you. I think that might apply to you. If you are that bored that you are trying to ruin someone's reputation based on an innocent photo, you need to find something to do! I guess you could go call a friend - uhh wait - you don't have any.
Kim was posing the way they told her to. She never dreamed it would appear "hot". She thought it was a football pose, and we all know that football is the God of Decatur. Carson's new AP is nice looking too...of course he's a man, so no one would second guess his integrity in this way. People close to Kim have griped that she is too controlling and wants everything her way. But I have had meaningful talks with her and I know that her goal is to make Carson an exemplary place to work and attend school. She is very bright, and actually has the courage to stand up and say what she believes. I think it is refreshing!
For those of you who may not be as in tune to the baseball world as some.....the bone spurs in CJ Wilson was a known problem for a while. The spurs are something players play through all the time. The Rangers are doing him a favor by using this as an excuse to get him off the roster to bring someone in who might give them a chance. The spurs have nothing to do with his control problem. Either way.....its good riddence....get him the freak out of Texas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In college I possessed one towel. Not once washed it.....just hung it on the curtain rod and used it the next day. Now, my wife makes me use two towels. I bet CJ uses a towels washed in ginger smelling fabric softener.......YOU SUCK CJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my, how delicious....Mrs. Clinton may nuke Obama at the Democrat convention.
The day's a little brighter, the birds singing a little sweeter...."When Clintons Attack!!"
Hello! I said I know her! You don't read very well do you? Undoubtedly, you are big time friends with her, and that is fine. This is not about friendship! This was not a personal attack. You are doing a personal attack! See the difference. Get over it. I had an opinion, I voiced it, and that is what this blog is all about. Undoubtedly she is your ONLY friend! Now that was an attack!! Get on with YOUR life. This opinion is over!!! I have other things to do!!! Talk to all my friends!!!
Is it the same guy each time that's threatening to jump off the overpass?
Chill, 7:13
The shrillness in your voice is almost audible.
5:08 Thanks for blogging. I knew it probably wasn't her idea. I wasn't attacking her at all. I think she will be a great principal for Carson. She is full of pep and energy and ready to lead. I am behind her one hundred percent!
I'm sorry 5:00 just won't let go. Such bitterness. Can't we just all get along!!! Have a great rest of the week!
If they weren't going for "hot" then why wasn't Tamplen's picture or Christian's goofy picture chosen?
The principal in a sexy pose? Seriously? It looks like the Heisman - never thought he was sexy.
I once had a boss who liked the phrase "agree to disagree." It meant, just agree and shut up!
Hey 4:07, we're still on the line, lots of us. There is no way that picture is intended or should perceived as inappropriate or sexy - get your dirty mind out of the gutter and let the school have a great year. I hear she's a great principal. Don't judge her by what is probably one of a ton of photos taken, and hey, I've got news to you. That photo decision was probably NOT made by the subject of the photo - duh!
Well hey 10:28 we've already established that the decision was NOT hers! DUH right back at you! It is a great picture if it were used in the right context! Spent enough time on this! I did not judge her at all! Can't you people read? You're making a bigger mess out of this than it was ever intended to be! I can't blog today, I have many, many chores to do!
7:58 I think you speak from experience. I don't do shrill!
I like 10:24 statement. Great Idea! Signing off and shutting up!!
wurdy, you didn't really think hillary had dropped out of the race for real, did you? she was just playing hide the weenie, remember she only suspended her campaign, she never actually dropped out..this was her plan all along. one thing for sure she is calculating and deceptive. i believe she still has hopes of getting the dem. nomination.
6:08 you should have had that revelation to shut up yesterday. I am glad that chores are going to consume your time today instead of trying to ruin someone's reputation.
Wow! Just reading this for the first time...I don't think the photo's tone is sexy AT ALL. I think someone is reading WAY too much into this or has an ax to grind with this gal. She's cute and blonde...and striking a playfully fun Heisman pose. Don't lay a stereotype on her just because she's blonde and slim. If you have a beef with her, perhaps you ought to talk to her about it rather than slam her on this blog.
