That Cop was out of control. It makes me want to avoid Austin for as long as that jerk is a cop.
Remember hearing about this. The Officer was first exonerated by the Internal Affairs Board. When a new acting Chief came on, the Chief was amazed and gave him 3 days suspension, which the Cpl. disagreed with. The new permanent Chief was appalled, and ordered the tape be released. Many officers of the Austin PD have publicly apologized for the Cpl's actions.
As a law enforcement officer, I shake my head in disbelief. Why is this guy still working?
The idea seems to never sink in with Some idiots that belligerance with a police officer doesn't get anything but more trouble.
Wow don't know where this happened but I don't want to go there! Good Lord it would have taken me longer than that to dig around in my purse for my license and insurance card. All that for going 5 over on Thanksgiving?
I didn't see anything nearly belligerant 5:26.
7:03 - You didn't see him complying or obeying what he was told to do by the officer either.
Assault and battery pure and simple. Also doesn't Texas have some 'abuse of authority'law? as I've said before If I was that dude I would own Austin Texas and if that cop had assaulted a loved one instead of me I would haunt him the rest of his life.
he broke the aw nd admited to doing so and when he failed to comply with the officer the officer did what he was trained to do if the man would hve given his dl and insurance to the cop and took the ticket and then went to court to argue then he might not have been tased
Tase that brotha! Tase him again 'cawz he still ain't shut dat mouth! Bet he be on welfare too!
OK...so when the guy didn't comply and his empty-skirt passenger started spouting off, the officer should have said..."Never mind, sorry to have bothered you," and fled the scene. Our officers should be trained to back off from any form of citizen resistance out of fear of being accused of brutality. In serious situations, they should always resort to physically wrestling with adversaries and never use a Taser, even if they have been engaged in wrestling confrontations all day, every day. Yes, that kind of cowardly restraint is perzackly what we want from our officers and we should hire more sissies to carry it out.
Wow. You get tased for going 5 mph over the limit, and not handing over your information immediately? That's nuts. The person actually did have a rear license plate, you could see it in the back window. It's not against the law to question why you were pulled over, which is what this person did. Sure, you still need to give them your stuff, but the cop started yelling and abusing his position of power almost immediately. Crazy.
united socialist republic of Austin.
??? I think you mean "fascist", there, 8:56.
08:56 - He didn't get Tasered for speeding. He did not obey the intstructions of the officer to produce his license, registration and insurance. Instead, he began complaining about the stop and, when told to get out of the car, would not even undo his seatbelt. WARNING ! - To all who have a problem with the heavy process of THINKING: If you disobey an officer to the point that he has to drag you out of your auto, you are very close to meeting Mr. Taser. Yes, I think the cop may have seen his rear tags, as you did, but that has nothing to do with a license, registration and proof of insurance. The guy couldn't have overlooked a Taser being pointed at him and that should have been a clear message that he was about to get it if he made further resistance.
THIS is why I can't stand cops. If they weren't trained to "cop" an attitude as soon as they graduate, incidents like this wouldn't occur. What a JERK!! Part of his punishment should have been him being tazed out in the middle of a public road for all to see. He didn't give them time to find DL and registration. It would have taken me longer than that. I agree with guy.....he was having a bad day and taking it out on a citizen who was breaking the law.....by exceeding the speed limit by 5 mph. Where's the rope?????? That is a hanging crime isn't it?
That punk cop had an attitude the minute he approached that driver. Geeez...
He was using excessive power. He was a jackass. How dare he disobey an officer? They do think they are God after all.
If you think the officer is in the right here you are crazy!! He was hostile from the beginning. He didn't give much time for the driver to get the license and registration, and it makes people nervous when an officer is standing there yelling at you. This cop is a jerk and abused his power. This example is what makes many people fear the police and gives a bad name to other good officers that are out there.
10:23 - That guy sure didn't fear the police.
Must be a relative of Scalia.
The cop had a major attitude at 18 seconds. At 51 seconds he tazed the guy. Look, I'll admit the speeder didn't respond quickly, but you can't tell me that is the way we want our public servants to act.
The off icer was a bit assertive, however the taser is used for non-compliance. if the driver would have complied with the officers directives, then there would not have been a problem.
8:33 you need to keep your mouth shut. Officers dont retreat from nothing. They have a job to do and they are going to do it. I guess you dont know ant Officers because they will tell you the same thing i am right now.
Hopefully the notariety generated by this video will put a stopdown on that piece of doodoo before he kills someone.
Anon 2:04....May I be the first to say....You are an idiot!
Cool >>>>>Next time he will get out of the car!
Did I detect in the cop's voice a bit of regret toward the end? I think after the guy was on the ground and the officer said I am not talking to you anymore, he was beginning to realize just how over the top his actions were. The guy could have been a little quicker to show I.D. but the cop was way out of line. The speeder was young and did not handle it very well but the cop was totally unprofessional. Precisely why so many people dislike/distrust police officers. Their big me, little you attitude is so predictable.
*YiKeS*THAT cop is EXACTLY why SOME people call members of law enforcement, PIGS.If there is ANYONE who wears a badge and is not embarrassed and outraged by the actions of that cop then they need to IMMEDIATELY turn in their badge and gun. As for the idiots in Austin's Internal Affairs Division, they should ALL get a round of tasing and see how eager they would be to exonerate a cop with mental issues who abused his powers.
What's an "ant" officer. Is that the same thing as a PIG.
I'm thinking this guy needed to watch Chris Rock's, "How not to get your A$$ kicked by the police" video here.
I believe the "Donut Dumpster" didn't get to stop by Crispy Creme that morning!
The NutBalls that think this cop was in the right after watching this in real time are the same "Citizens" that would love NAZI type Rule/execution on the spot, or Middle East Religo Nut Justice Rule cut off their head, here in the USA. Get HardBall Conservatives in total control, and think about the innocents sniped in the movie "Schindler's List" for no reason and this makes perfect sense. Luv the Conservative Weenieless mindset. They have no weenies, so they are just mad. The also hate Oscar Meyar because they do have weenies.
Anon 10:12:That's typical liberal nonsense yet again. This simply isn't about liberal or conservative, but rather, right and wrong. I'm conservative, and I think the officer was out of line. He should have been more patient, but you could tell he had an attitude almost from the very beginning. It sounds like he just walked out of the academy.
I'll hire him!Double Fake David Walker
# 1 The driver broke the law, if he was driving 1 mph or 20 mph over the speed limit he broke the law, # 2 when you get pulled over you should automatically know you need to have you dl,registration and insurance ready for the officer.YES THE OFFICER WAS PROBABLY OUT OF LINE AT FIRST BUT!!THE DRIVER SHOULD HAVE COMPLIED AND NOT QUESTIONED WHY HE WAS BEING PULLED OVER. MOST LIKELY FOR GOING 5 OVER THE SPEED LIMIT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED A WARNING.THE TAZER IS AN AWSOME TOOL IT ALLOWS THE OFFICER TO USE FORCE THAT NOT LETHAL BUT VERY EFFECTIVE
Ant Officers? They guard the colony, protect the queen and breakup fights between the worker ants?
I'll assure you the driver was not going to get a warning 6:49. From the moment the cop bluelighted him(maybe the moment he got out of bed that morning)he was going to get beaten, tased, pepper sprayed or even shot.
3 days suspension? That's worse than nothing. He assaulted someone without provocation.
Using all caps sentence after sentence is VERY ANNOYING, PEOPLE STOP EVEN READING WHAT YOU"VE WRITTEN MUCH LESS CARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT ANYTHING!!!
Behaviour like that gets cops killed. Not at all saying he should have been killed, but actions and attitude are often very contributory.
If I witnessed my son being assaulted like that I could see myself blowing that cops brains out. If he was about to pepper spray(could kill him) or was working him over with a baton etc I would kill him without hesitation. One more reason for the police to think about a little restraint as they go about their daily duties?
Rookie cop, raised on too many COPS episodes, too immature, probably hasn't gotten over being picked on in school, just found out his fiance is banging the black garbage man, missed(or so he thinks)out on going to to the war because he's flatfooted and has an extra nipple-very dangerous combination indeed.
A person can be pulled over for a rendom license, registration and insurance check without breaking the law. Almost everyone knows that when you are stopped, you need to get out those papers. In this case, when the officer approached and asked for them, the driver made no move to do comply. He kept his hands on the steering wheel. When the officer asked the second time...same thing. When the officer shouted at him...same thing. So the officer told him to get out of the car. The driver did not unfasten his seatbelt and made no move to do so. He was again ordered to get out and again did not move, still insisting on being told why he was stopped. So the officer opened the door, released his seatbelt and pulled him out. The driver was then told to go to the rear of the car and place his hands on the trunk. He refused and kept up his questioning of the officer. At that point, the officer should have:1. Appologized to the driver and shot himself with the Taser to show how it works.2. Let the driver go and arrest the bitchy, big mouth woman with him.3. Engaged the driver in a long, physical confrontation to see who who would win.4. Taken the car keys and kept the driver at bay until backup arrived. 5. Let the driver go and never report that he backed away from an adversary and would always do so to avoid ever being considered a brutal, bad cop.
The obvious answer is 6. All of the above.
8:31, if those are the best options you can come up with you'd make a very poor cop...almost as bad as the one in the video. Part of an officer's duty is to diffuse a situation and avoid an altercation if possible. Ask any experienced officer and they'll agree that this was handled badly.
To 8:31 AM:You are correct in pointing out how the officer painted himself into a corner and limited his options as this interaction progressed. Your list of his options is far from complete, however, and you are transparent in your purpose for posting by what you leave in and what you leave out, and the manner in which you describe the events. The driver was being difficult, purposely I am sure, and would make for a long day for anyone. Even so, we cannot allow that bullying behaviour by officers, he was defiinitely abusive, and committed assault on the driver. Strong disciplinary action is appropriate, possibly even criminal charges.
Disciplinary actions are used on cops to make the public feel like something is being done and prevent some backlash. 3 days off?cool. Put the shoe on the other foot. The driver senses this scenario- not hard to imagine since he was looking to start some trouble probably from the moment he woke up that morning and it showed, anyway the driver fearing for his life pulls out his own taser and pow knocks the cop down and keeps him there while he calls for backup on the cops radio. What kind of "disciplinary actions" should he get?
POSSIBLY criminal charges? I'm going to be sick.I don't know if I can contribute here anymore.
This is outrageous. This sorry excuse for a police officer reminds me of a Hitler “brownshirt.” The officer is a disgrace. Internal Affairs was wrong. The Austin police force is not objective; IA is just covering up. I hope the citizen who was arrested and hauled to jail sues the City of Austin and this poor example of a policeman. We trust the cops to do their job professionally. This was not a policeman at work; it was a thug at work. This situation needs to come out in open court and that sorry excuse for a cop needs to learn how to treat citizens professionally. This really burns me up
Being from Texas~ I think if this had happened to me it wouldn't take me very long to gather enough friends in low places to have this cop removed from all law enforcement activities / he would be known because of the massive man hunt for the remains of his ignorant ass!! lol, don't mess with texans!!! stand up for your rights!!!!
