In Someone's Name, We Pray

So I catch a little bit of the replay of the Virginia Tech Remembrance Ceremony on CSPAN tonight and, after President Bush's address, four religious speakers were introduced and said a few words. We had, batting lead off, an Islamic leader who quoted from the Koran in Arabic (really), followed by a Buddhist, then a Jewish lady, only to end with - for all you Protestant folks out there, a Lutheran.

And I didn't hear "Jesus" a single time.

You Wise County folks would have rioted.

Only one way to heaven, good old J.C. and they leave him out.....hmmmmm!

Makes you wonder where our world is at???

"Allah" is Arabic for God. Allah is one of the THOUSAND names Islam has for God. Mohammed is the demi-god of Islam as is Jesus the demi-god of Christianity.

Perhaps if MORE people would worship God rather than their religion's respective man-made demi-god then there would be FAR less hissing and spitting about whose religion was the best religion. ANY religion that has EVER committed MURDER in the name of their demi-god losses ALL credibility in the minds of rational, thinking people.

Bush said the students were "Just in the wrong place at the wrong time". Well, that makes me feel better.

as a Catholic I feel slighted by my lack of representation

7:32, Funny, that's what a lot of people say about him.

What a total freak show! BTW mzchief, if Jesus was manmade then who made him? I figure someone as smart as you would know?

Does anyone else wonder about the fact that when they took God out of the schools, they forgot to keep the devil from coming in?

Just a thought.

Paul wrote: "And he gave some apostles; and some prophets...For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ; Till we all come in the unity of the faith" Eph. 4:11-13

It would appear we are not united in faith, so where are those apostles and prophets that were suppose to be here until unity was acheived?

Not sure why Barry posted "In Someone's Name, We Pray" anyway.

Those folks were pulling out everybody they knew to help the school deal with the pain.

Not everybody is a Baptist BG.

8:55 I hope you can you c me rolling my IIIIIII's at your comment.

mzchief, I guess you have to spell it out for some people.

psssst 8:55..... it means you made it up in that intelligent brain of yours

8:59 I think you should go to every school in the United States and chant your "GOD PLEASE BLESS THIS PLACE AND REMOVE ALL EVIL" speach.

That should remove that ole devil from the schools. ;)

"Inclusive" isn't "cute." It's respecting the faiths of a diverse student body and faculty. It would be pretty great if people could get it through their heads that not everyone in the world believes as they themselves do. Apropos of that, Anon. 11:09: How many converts to "good old J.C." do you think you're winning over with that smirking, superior attitude?

Anonymous said...

Hey 11:07 and your evil twin mzchief, we all place our faith in something and I'll take my chances JC. If I'm wrong what does it cost me? if you're wrong what's the cost?

Anonymous said...

11:09, do your feces not have any odor?

Anonymous said...

Sure does 12:35 and I think about you the next time I go to the potty.

Anonymous said...

My smirking attitude is from my knowledge I'm saved and I'm going to heaven- no doubt about it. How about you?

Anonymous said...

12:29 Hang on there. I will be right back with you. I have to call the Jesus Hotline and see how they want me to answer your question.

M&M said...

1:13 Don't start with that crap about being saved and guaranteed entrance into heaven. Anyone who has read the Bible, knows that is false doctrine.

Gleemonex said...

And Jesus, as we all know, loves the smirkers more than the smirkless. He was aaaaalll about smugness being the way into heaven.

Anonymous said...

It sure is strange out of all the religous figures in history...Jesus is the one that catches the most flack. He strikes such a deep cord. Is it because he is right?

Further, I'm smug unto myself and I have concern for you. I'm not trying to be smug to you about my eternal life, I just want you to share it with me even though it is obvious you could care less. I will pray for you not out of smugness but out of my concern for your lack of faith and misunderstanding of the bible.

IF you are a rabid, hardcore Christian you do NOT want to read my comment because you will NOT understand it thus YOU will be GREATLY offended.

CHRISTIANITY IN A NUTSHELL

If you look at the myth of Jesus you would see that he was the bastard child of an unwed teenage mother who could NOT get a fair shake in the Jewish community into which he was born. (unless of course you buy into the whole "God is a pedophile and knocked up a teenage virgin" fairy tale) The "Messiah" thing seemed to be the best gig Jesus was offered so he jumped all over that job opportunity. Of course, his buddies (disciples) had to go along with the sham so they could be vindicated and did not look like a bunch of losers. Jesus determining that the Jews were too exclusionary with the whole, "You have to be a DEVOUT Jew to know God." bias decided in all fairness it was time someone open God up to EVERYONE. Shooting off his mouth pissed off the Romans and the NOT so friendly Jewish elders. Both sides decided tacking Jesus up on a cross (a common method of punishing unsavoury members of the community) was a GREAT idea and the perfect way to be rid of a troublemaker. Underestimating the determination of Jesus’ posse, the Romans did not crucify his buddies. With no real prospects because they had been on the run, Jesus’ buddies waited a couple of decades and decided to have a scribe (none of the posse knew who to write) put on papyrus their memoirs. A couple of hundred years later the Roman Empire began to crumble ushering in the "Dark Ages." After ANOTHER couple of hundred years the "Roman Catholic Church" takes over and installs a New World order with Jesus as their poster boy. After a THOUSAND years or so of the burning, murdering and exterminating ALL people who disagreed with the "Roman Catholic Church" as well as carefully crafting and polishing the "Jesus Myth" (at this time the ONLY people who knew how to read and write were clerics) another handful of MEN decided it was a GREAT opportunity and money making venture THUS enter the "Protestants" and the battle of the RELIGIONS begins in earnest. So I think it is fair to say that the CURRENT version of Jesus was fostered and masterfully developed by RELIGION hence substantiating my claim that the MYTH that is "Jesus" is man-made.

I would be willing to bet dollars to dimes that YOU believing in "J.C." just to cover your arse is a NOT a good basis for salvation. However, if it works for YOU keep at it.

mzchief said...

To anonyNOTHING 5:11...
If it makes YOU feel better I am willing to bet just as many people think Muhammad is as big a PAWN as Jesus. This NEXT bit of news should tickle you pink; from what I am to understand there are MORE people in the United States who HATE Muhammad than hate Jesus.

Thank you for the prayers. I appreciate the HONEST effort of ANYONE who SINCERELY prays for the soul and everlasting life of EVERYONE.

Mzgrief, you are likely to make someone turn Christian just so they can pray that you'll eventually shut up.

So mzchief, your feeble attempt to explain away the origin of Jesus is that He was created by Religion?
Once one truly comes to know Jesus they know that He actually has absolutely nothing to do with religion. If you'll go back and study God's divine word that you think you know so well, you will see that everything Jesus was about flew directly in the face of His day's religion.

I'll ask you again, if Jesus is manmade then who made Him? Please be specific.

BTW, I don't choose to believe in Jesus just to cover my arse. I choose to believe in Him because believing in Him far surpasses anything else you or anyone else can come up with.

mzchief said...

To anonyNOTHING 8:46...
I was VERY specific. YOU either LACK the tools necessary to GRASP hold of REALITY or the tools to comprehend FACTUAL content within text.

Incidentally, the RELIGION is called "CHRISTianity" because it is based upon the alleged teachings of "Jesus CHRIST" making it safe to say that IF Jesus was NOT all about religion (which he was because the majority of his alleged teachings were in direct opposition to the Jewish religion) then most certainly CHRISTianity is ALL about Jesus.

If you feel good about believing in SOMETHING because you do NOT know ANYTHING better and it works for you then that is what YOU should do. However, I am none too certain that believing in Jesus because you do NOT know better is an improvement on believing in Jesus to cover your arse.

Good luck to YOU.

Thanks, mzchief. BTW, I hold a Ph.D. and I am a founding member and Diplomate of my professional society. I completely grasped and comprehended your attempt to explain away the origin of Christ.
I just happen to disagree with your belief system and it is rather obvious you disagree with mine. So be it.

Also, thanks for the good luck but I don't believe in luck. I believe
in my Holy Father who is completely sovereign over the universe.

Have a blessed day!

Nothing heats up this board like a religious discussion.

Maybe somebody will begin blog so we can just hone in on things spiritual/religious.

And hopefully with an intelligent person in charge like Barry.

He does a great job on his blog.

Whew... you religious nuts are really out there in la la land.

You guys are so uninformed you can't comprehend that mzchief is not making this information up. She is actually posting factual information regarding your beliefs and you still can't grasp it.

Seems to me, if you were true Christians you would know these facts. Instead as usual, you only believe what you want to.

10:42 "I hold a Ph.D. and I am a founding member and Diplomat of my professional society"

That makes me LOL. A "Religious Society” no doubt. WOW.... you must be some big wig in your cult.

Anonymous said...

Sorry 9:21am. I am actually a scientist believe it or not. My charter diplomate status is 1 of 48 professional scientists in the U.S. I have no memberships in any religious societies or cults.

Are you amazed that you now know a scientist that is not an atheist?

God bless you.

One more thing 9:21am, the term is diplomate not diplomat.
