Problem?

Although I really don't want to get a lot of "Henson is a crazy dictator" comments (you guys have made your point well known), there sure seems like a lot of upheaval in girls athletics over at Bridgeport.

Don't think there is much to offer for girl sports in bport. Third rate coach for third rate talent. Coaches watch from the 7th grade up before they take the job or at least if they are a decent coach in order to evaluate the players. If I remember correctly the mid-90's were great for the girls in bport. Softball went deep into the playoffs, basketball won several playoff games missing the state tournament by 1 game, and track would send girls to the state meet every year. Besides the parents for girls that participate in athletics are unbelievable and most of the time their child isn't very good..

From what I have seen, and I am close to the girls program, there are three major problems.
1. The AD really does not care about the girls program.
2. Some of the girl’s parents are flat out crazy.
3. Some of the girl coaches are good, some have been VERY bad.

if you don't have good leadership in high school athletics, you don't have much.
that is the case in bhs girls athletics. AW was emberrassment. DT will be no better.
if they don'tgo outside the program and get legit coach, there will be no change.!!!
and yes, some of those parents are in need of help,

9:19. Third rate talent? These aren't recruits, you know. These are kids who happen to grow up in Bridgeport and want to have some fun and play some ball together. Too bad the adults in town see it as something else, something more than that. Bridgeport needs to find something else upon which to base its value as a community. Quit shoveling your community pride on the backs of 14, 15, 16 and 17 year old kids and those that coach and work with them. Let em play and have some fun.

I'm a native Decaturite, but I feel for B'port's lack of morale, lately in the area of school athletics. Nobody's perfect, but our AD and coaches over here do a great job of coaching, do a great job of teaching, and are even great human beings, too! Its nice to be part of an organization with a uniformly high level of morale and spirit. I only hope y'all can somehow solve your problems "over there", because I can sense a lot of "pain", whenever there's a Blog about B'port athletics. Good luck.

Since they are just kids and want to have some fun then why should anyone care if they win or lose. If winning and losing aren't an issue then it doesn't matter who the coach is going to be. Therefore everyone stop your whining.

I have not attended a high school sporting event for any gender or sport in probably 5 years or so. The reason being I get embarrassed of the way adults handle themselves especially when chances are high that they are making a fool out of their kid who wishes they stayed at home.

Third rate talent probably wasn't the best way to express my opinion. But the point is that the girls are not going to be winning any state championships or probably any playoff games in any sport. So with crappy pay, high real estate prices, and not much chance of winning at a high level. What kind of coach are people expecting to come here?

Bridgeport athletics whether it be football, basketball, softball, track, is not something every available coach is looking to up root their family for. Sad but true...

You don't have much room to talk about morale in Bport Sports. If I remember a few months ago recent Decatur Graduates were admitting to being able to workout for athletics in a leadership class. Luckily for the kids who participate in Decatur it was over shadowed by the chearleader bull crap and didn't lead to any action by UIL to this point.

I realize there're many reasons for B'port failures in athletics, but how much can you expect from squads labeled "Sissies"?

Coming from a former "Sissy," I enjoyed playing for Bridgeport, great girls' program or not. The name was about tradition, the game was about fun, and whether we won or lost and whose parents went crazy didn't matter for that hour on the court. I wouldn't trade my experience for a state championship. I loved my coach, the girls I played with, and the game. Isn't this program for the kids? Let's just make sure they all come out with an experience like mine!
