My family business employees both legal and illegal immigrants. The "un-americanized" immigrants DO tend to work harder and complain a whole lot less than others. We getter a better quality of work when employing them. I don't feel like we treat anyone differently....everyone is equal. But when they suggested that they weren't working today, they were willing to listen to the other side. I am proud of all of them for respecting their employment and showing enough regard for us to show up today and do the work they are hired to do. For that respect, we all get to work today and tomorrow!! God bless America!!

An employer is NOT allowed to ask someone seeking employment if they are "legal". When an employer pays federal payroll taxes and the Social Security Admin. sends a notice that a particular SS# does not match the name provided the employer CANNOT fire the employee with the "suspect" SS#. The employer can ONLY inform the employee the SS Admin. has indicated there is a problem with the information. This can and does go on for YEARS! The ONLY action/protection the employer can take is to have the employee sign a document indicating the employee has been informed of the difficulty with "their" SS#.
Clearly, the US needs a guest worker program that WORKS! The US also needs laws that allow the employer to make certain they are hiring documented/legal workers.
By the way it is my understanding Dos Chiles HAD to close because only the owner and cook showed up for work today!
