Little Late . . .

. . . on this one, but it was pretty good stuff when Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was called on the carpet during a public speaking engagement on Thursday. This site has the audio clip as well as some supporting documentation. Two interesting facts: (1) the guy hammering on Rumsfeld was being escorted out but Rumsfeld stopped that and allowed him to stay, (2) the guy quoted Rumsfeld about saying he knew where weapons of mass destruction were, but Rumsfeld denied ever making that statement. The link above has Rumsfled statements from 2003 on This Week With George Stephanopoulos where he in fact did say it. A little Tired Head worthy, but good stuff.

Another thing, the guy doing the questioning was a 20+ year CIA employee.

As a former Intelligence officer, I’ve been waiting and waiting for those with real information to challenge the "absolute truths" that were presented by the Bush war machine. Now Rummy is trying to modify what he said in earlier times. Unfortunately for him - his words are recorded!

It has become clear that there was massive cherry picking of the intelligence to make a case for war. When the WMD stockpiles and the al Qaeda connections proved false, Bush just blamed "bad intelligence." However, it was more bad policy tenuously supported by selectively picking bad intelligence.

The real failure of intelligence was when the American electorate was duped by the Bush arguments.
