This Sounds Suspicious

From the Update: FINALIST PULLS OUT — The lone finalist for the Bridgeport school superintendent post has withdrawn his name for the job. Steve Williams, assistant superintendent for human resources/student services at Eagle Mountain-Saginaw school district, withdrew his name Monday because he did not think he had the full backing of the board. He wanted the job. The board voted unanimously to give him the job (with one board member absent). And now he's gone?

I heard through the grapevine that Danny Henson is running the school so maybe he did not want to get mixed up in that deal.....

Anonymous said...

From what I can tell Danny Henson and the parents of any student in his program are the ones running that school.

B'port ISD - Warning - YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR SCHOOL BACK, STOP LETTING THESE LOUD MOUTH PARENTS AND SECOND RATE COACHES MAKE ALL THE CALLS!!

Anonymous said...

Maybe he was SMART enough not to go to work for LORD HENSON!

Anonymous said...

Maybe it was when they broke the news to him that he would get to control everything EXCEPT Danny and his 17 assistants.

Anonymous said...

This is the second candidate to withdraw their name....anyone else see a problem here?

Anonymous said...

BISD Board.....Please no more Coaches! Can we not figure out the problem....HIRE/KEEP your Good Teachers! Northwest ISD has figured it out! Pay them more, get the best and the rest works itself out.

Does anyone have Dr. John Brooks phone number? He could straighten this mess out in 30 days!

Anonymous said...

Please hire an Educator for this position. Someone with his or her Doctorate would be SO refreshing.

Anonymous said...

He saw this place was screwed up worse than Saginaw. Now that is a feat!

Anonymous said...

Do you think he just got a bad feeling with all the lawyers and the UIL cars in the parking lot?
LOL

Anonymous said...

I don't think it had anything to do with the BISD, after having him at Paradise, you people should be proud he withdrew his name from supertintendent.

Anonymous said...

Amen on Dr. Brooks.... I don't think it would take him 30 minutes...HA!!

Anonymous said...

Well I don't know if he would have been good or bad for Bridgeport but he should have asked for his own radio show before he said, "No, Thanks!" They have done it before.....$$$$

Anonymous said...

Unconfirmed, but I was told not a single BISD employee put in their application for the position. That says plenty to me!

Anonymous said...

I know Steve Williams and think he would have been excellent. He is a former coach, but he is the exception to rule there. He was an EXCELLENT classroom teacher and a very fair, but strict principal. He has a great deal of integrity and doesn't play politics. He is a man of few words and doesn't enter into anything lightly. I for one am very dissappointed he is not taking the job. I had hopes for Bridgeport, but they are now swiftly shattered. BISD needs to clean house in the administration starting with ALL school board members.

Anonymous said...

maybe the new SUPER did not want to be an assistant football coach

Anonymous said...

If was such an excellent coach why did he not remain as a coach in Paradise and evidently you did not teach under him while he was at Paradise or have a child that was "his" student while he was principal at PISD.

Anonymous said...

There were numerous phone calls to the Administration Office. Paradise folks came out of the wood works to warn Bridgeport that he is not what we needed. I also have friends in the Eagle Mountain ISD that said it was a VERY poor choice. As much as some of you want to believe it, it had nothing to do with anything but his past track record.

Grow up and stop trying to blame everything on a coach or parent. Due process. It works and the search continues.

A coach with 17 assistants?

So how many assistants does the Decatur head coach have?

Good idea to get John Brooks back. Don't tell anybody (shhh) but John has a love for the.....

.....arts!

Anonymous said...

Boyd has that many asst. coaches and they are just 2A...there in lies the problem with Texas schools....

Anonymous said...

11:44 - I could not agree with you more.

But until the "god of sports" mentality changes in the public schools, things will stay the same.

Will the public demand change?

Doubt it!

Anonymous said...

Strange. The Boyd games I go to have 4 assistant coaches on the sidelines and 3 in the press box. These guys also coach at the Junior High level and up, both boys and girls athletics.

Anonymous said...

Bridgeport ISD reminds me of the Titantic! I think Steve Williams was just smart enough to find a life boat. There are far too many families moving their kids out of that district for things to be going well.

Anonymous said...

We will likely never get the straight of this, unless somebody from Decatur calls in the media from Fort Worth.

We need something to divert our attention from the Confederate Flag mess at the courthouse.

Anonymous said...

Too much gossip from those Paradise folks. That's where the problem lies. Not much credibility with that bunch. If that is the case, then the Bridgeport board members are pretty low for listening to that crap. They should investigate someone thoroughly before hiring and I'm sure they did with this guy and didn't find anything.

Anonymous said...

Go to www.bridgeportisd.net, then the Schools Link,High School, Sports, Bulls Coaches. You are correct: There are 18 pictures, complete with their Bios. No girls coaches are listed. Bridgeport this is "UNACCEPTABLE!" A word you should be familiar with! Now we know why!

Anonymous said...

GOOD GRIEF!!!!!!!!! Give them time. They are just now working on it. By the way those are the BULLS coaches. Wait and you will see the Sissies coaches. Give them credit they are working on getting things uploaded. If you have a problem with it be a lady or man and call the school and ask for the library and ask. Don't post on here until you have the facts straight. GROW UP!

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:16 before you gripe...go look at softball and you will see your coaches.

Anonymous said...

Anon 4:44
I am sure you are working hard. You missed the point, I don't care about the girl's coaches not being on the site, but I am shocked that there are 18 boy's coaches. But since you brought it up, how many girls participate in athletics 7-12 as compared to boys 7-12? I don't know. You tell me are there a similar number of girls coaches, more or less than 18? Just curious...don't be so stressed about it!

this guy's not taking the job anymore because the school board didnt ever consult ANYONE in the district(including the asst. superintendents) and once word got out williams was the finalist evvvvvverybody in the district went nuts

Anonymous said...

Who cares? It's Bridgeport, all that goes to school there is Mexicans anyways. We're about to ship them all back to mexico when bushie passes his new legislation. After that, we won't need a school in bridgeport.

Anonymous said...

Maybe instead of hurrying home to watch "24" on TV the board should do their homework before naming a finalist. Next time fellas at least back the poor guy if you offer him the job!

Anonymous said...

To 3:54 anonymous, evidently it was not all gossip from paradise folks. The accusations were investigated and some were found to be true meybe you need to give credit where credit is due. Some Bridgeport officials did contact some people for interviews and investigation was done? Now do you think it is odd Steve pulled his application. Seems to be me, he didn't want anyone else questioned about his credability.

Anonymous said...

This is amazing. The school board realized they made a mistake and corrected it before it was too late. How loud would the taxpayers of Bridgeport be if the school board had to buy out his contract at a later date? I thought they showed a lot of guts in the way they handled this situation. When you realize you have made a mistake, handle it now. I too am a great fan of Dr. Brooks. For those of you who don't remember, John Brooks is the man that hired Coach Henson. What I don't understand is how you can blame the superintendent situation on the athletic director. Why are people not screaming about the pathetic band program? To anon 3:25am...Bridgeport is 34% Hispanic, which is a little under the state's Hispanic population. Many of the Mexican kids in Bridgeport are great kids and deserve the support this community gives them. Instead of blogging at 3:25am maybe you should get back to work if you work nights or go to bed if you don't. Maybe it would help you think more clearly.

Anonymous said...

Are the applicant's really checked out before a job is offered to them? Background check, reference check, pay (do they really make what they say), etc....Seems the right thing was done before it was too late.

Anonymous said...

To 10:09 Anon - Evidently there couldn't have been ANYTHING bad that Williams did or he would not have been able to get the job at Eagle Mountain. IF and that is a big IF, Williams did something that required an investigation, why wouldn't PISD go through the proper legal procedures to end Williams' career. There is no way Williams could have possibly gone on to a better job at Eagle Mountain if ANYTHING had happened at PISD - that is; if something REALLY happened, wouldn't PISD be in trouble for not taking appropriate action???

This happens all of the time. A teacher/coach/administrator, etc. does something bad/wrong sometimes against the law and the district brushes it under the rug and asks them to resign. They don't fire them and prosecute them, just let them move on to pray on another district. They won't ever give a bad recommendation because they fear getting sued. The Texas Education system sucks in all areas. They are way behind and until they get their act together and priorities in the right place, it' not getting any better.

The board didn't do a damn thing people!!! Steve Williams pulled out - not the school board. The school board members in Bridgeport are weasels with no backbones whatsoever. They obviously did allot wrong for this to ever have happened. Quit blaming the candidate, put the blame where it should be - with the entire school board for crying out loud!!!

Anonymous said...

Me works nights and needs to blog in the wee hours. So if it is 3:25 in the am so bees it. I think I was write about the popalashin of stoodents.

Anonymous said...

so just because a few teachers and coaches did not like him, we had to run him off? was he going to be too stern for bridgeport? thats what we need here. oh wait, was it because danny henson did not get the job in saginaw that he thought he had last year so now payback is hell? you know, its bad enough we have all the child porn pedophiles living here, but now we cant even get good administrators to come here. i guess i cant blame him. time to move to decatur.

Anonymous said...

10:32 - I must disagree with you about the board members in Bridgeport. These are good men - some of them graduated from BHS - others had kids go through the system. This gives them added incentive to try to govern for the best interests of our teachers and students. At least we can hope for this.

More folks need to run for school board, especially some retired teachers. These folks would have perspectives that would prove invaluable to the taxpayers.

Any takers?

Anonymous said...

Please tell me anon 11:35....How or why can you hate one person so much that you can lay so much blame at his feet? Do you really believe what you write or are you just trying to stir things up? If you want to move what is taking you so long? Ask yourself, will anyone care if you move to Decatur? From the tone of your post, probably not.

Anonymous said...

I am EMBARRASSED for our great teachers who are bustin' their rear ends every day to do the right thing for the GREAT kids in our school district. SOMETHING is WRONG to have such a small number of applicants, and then finalists pull out! This system needs some MAJOR OVERHAULING and QUICKLY, PLEASE !!!!

Anonymous said...

The School Board members deserve a standing ovation. They investigated Williams and found out that he was not the right fit for our wonderful school system. Yes there are several teachers that stepped forward, but trust me it went way deeper than that!! Next time you see one of the board members thank them for forcing Williams to remove himself from the job offer!!

Anonymous said...

standing ovation? you moron, they named this guy the one they wanted to hire. are you saying thay waited to investigate this guy AFTER they offered him the job by making him their choice? you are as clueless as danny henson is as an administrator. standing ovation? more like we should slap them for messing something like this up.
by the way, the voard did not turn on him, he turned on the board because he learned how bad of shape the BISD is in.
so next time you see a board member, tell them they to worry about more bigger things than a volleyball coach and they need to learn they do not have to do everything the athetlic direction says.

Anonymous said...

Do you personally know Williams 8:48? If not you are soooo clueless!!!
Do some homework before you start calling people names. I happen to know for a fact the board did pull the plug. I think once it was out that he was the one parents and teachers began to throw a fit!!! If he had come we would have moved our child to a different school. As for Henson I agree I don't like his coaching abilities.

Anonymous said...

So 8:48, are you saying that Williams did his investigating after accepting the boards offer?
That is definately the guy I want running our schools, take action then worry about the consequences later.

mzchief said...

So long as BISD maintains the good old boy "coaches" system and an impotent board that continues to appoint to administrative positions "buddy coaches" the likes of Henson/Thetford/Talley the school system will forever remain the substandard cesspool it is today.

Anonymous said...

Guess it is true anon 8:44 am that Danny is running the school. O'Hara is staying until the fall semseter...guess Henson begged him.
