Vulnerable, naive kids, like kids aging out of the foster system with no parents, are easy prey for these magazine companies. Don't blame the exploited kid knocking at your door! Go after the bosses and don't buy the magazine subscriptions. The kid was sold BS to even go do that job and the kids are moved from town to town.
If I'd have made the decision to buy $200 worth of magazine from a door-to door salesman I sure wouldn't advertise it in the paper. Sounds more like a friend calling the paper, playing a joke on the talleys.

Dont blame the union thugs, blame the greedy CEO that exploits these kids.
These kids were in Bport, too...we just called them in to the city. Sounded fishy to us.
