I Found Another One Percenter!

$250 million guaranteed over 10 years. He's 31 years old.

I actually saw a story about him on 60 Minutes and he sounds like a really good guy.  His wife was a single mom of a child with Down's Syndrome when they started dating. More at Wikipedia.

Is he Union?

Apparently a good guy. Gives back to his homeland. Now has much more to give. But 250 mill for 10 years?? Some other players will get less or prices for tickets or TV rights will have to go up. Just don't know how they justify these amounts (easier to justify than
some CEO or hedge fund manipulators' pay, tho). I still think golf has it right - you get paid for what you do this week - not what your reputation is.

Angels are idiots! This is the same type of contract that destroyed the Rangers for years.

@9:56, the answer would be a yes. The MLBPA is the most powerful union in the land. You can thank Marvin Miller for that.

For the Rangers' sake, I hope he turns into the next Mo Vaughn. I hope the Club Douche Jr. ends up in MIA with the Marlins.

I saw that same special on 60 minutes. I was really surprised he was doing the free agency thing. Sounded like he really liked Saint Louis and wanted to stay there and finish his career. Of course, how do you turn down a ridiculous amount like $250 million?

The players union would not have let him turn down the deal anyway. Same reason that A-Rod didn't end up in Boston...he had a deal worked out and was going to sign with the Red Sox even after receiving the $275 million offer from the Yankees. Players union stepped in and pressured him to take the money.

Where is the Angel's finding all this money? Are tickets going to $500 for bleacher seats?
