That's A Little Harsh

Portion of a full page ad being run by Democratic challenger Bill White in 20 newspapers today.

Edit: A commenter is correct. It's was paid for by a PAC (although White does play the "he is scared to debate me" card.)

It's not being run by Bill White but by a PAC.

That's probably the nicest thing you can say about Perry.

Yeah, but those debates are pretty "scripted" also. Lots of turmoil over nothing. Translation: Politics as usual.

Geez, if Ann Richards could find the stones to debate Clayton Williams, you'd think Perry could borrow a set or maybe convince his wife to loan them to him long enough to debate Bill White. BILL STINKIN'WHITE...he's about as intimidating as a glass of water for Pete's sake and Perry won't face the guy in an open debate. If that continues through Nov., he deserves to get his ass handed to him by the voters, regardless of how poor a job Whiute may wind up doing.

"Coward" and "traitor" are unacceptable as political speech. Regardless of how you feel about Perry or Obama, this kind of verbage is not helpful to civil discourse.

11:23, I'm a Democrat, and I agree with you. BOTH parties need to discourage this type of political speech, and encourage civil discourse. Problem is, it seems to work, and until the electorate speaks out about this, it will continue.

White is right! Perry won't debate, he won't talk to newspaper editorial boards..nothing...nothing!! He is going to lose in November!

Neat ad. Just wish they had added the word greed to it. Consider the money we are paying for he and Anita's fancy rent home.

Perry is conservative? No way!

I'm much more left of center than most in WC, I had occassion to hear GOV. Perry speak in Austin this weekend, and frankly, I was surprised and impressed with him. I'm not saying that I've lost my way and he's earned my vote, just saying, makes me go hmmm...

Also don't think the lack of a debate changes the minds of many, don't think White has much of a chance, debates or not...

Perry has stated he would be glad to debate White if white will would release his tax records but he won't so who's the coward there?

Let's see here, economy in Texas remains strong despite the recession, taxes are relatively low, access to healthcare above average, unemployment numbers better than the most states. Two main problems are education and illegal immigration, the latter of which is an issue the Federal govt. will not fix, and sub par education figures are directly linked to illegal immigration...not sure state government can fix either of these problems on their own.
I am not a huge Perry fan but we have it fairly good right now so I am not sure we need a CHANGE; might be one of those situations where you take even money. I could care less about expensive rent houses or lining pockets of friends, all politicians are corrupt in some form or fashion, it is simply inherent in their nature. You do not run for an office with just the good of the people in mind; I am sure some have had those intentions in the past but once they get in the game things change. If we elect Bill White I can assure you we will all be bitchin' about things he is doing in a year or two!

Hell I would debate White. He is pretty much drunk all the time. Oh, thats Ron White. Who the hell is Bill White?

While I believe everything in the ad to be true, I wish the label hadn't been used. You can define your opponent by his record or lack thereof.

Perry will win in a landslide. We are people of parties regardless of what we say. Way too many will pull that lever once.....and we will live with the results four more years.

We need "none of the above" choice instead of having to choose the lessor of two evils.

How's the war on fire ants going, Rick?

Perry a coward? When Omabanama came to Austin, it was Perry that met him off the plane with his requests for border security.

Bill White was nowhere to be found.

Who is the coward?

Bill White is a nobody in state politics. Perry debating him would only give him stature. Anyone who thinks Perry will be defeated by White this November is delusional.

11:23 - I kinda agree with you, but that's a bit idealistic.

BB: I am your counterpart on the right, only not in WC. If I were advising the Texas Democratic Party, (straight up, not for the purpose of sabotage), I would probably advise them to tone that back a notch, as I think this election is potentially White's to lose, so long as he doesn't step on his, well, whatever.

Listened to him on Mark Davis' radio program a while back, and he doesn't come off as the typical raving lunatic Democrat. The man made several good, solid points.
If he can keep the loonies in his party locked up until mid-November, coupled with the incumbent's lack of a real CV, Bill White could be living in the Governor's Mansion, or TraveLodge, or wherever, come January 2011.

I think Perry is free to campaign however he wants. Easy to be up in the stands and "call out" the player on the field. Meantime, since Perry has won a couple of elections, maybe he knows what he's doing?

Finish this sentence: "Instead of living in Texas and trying to make a living in Texas, I'd be much better off in (fill in the State here). If you have a clue, you'll realize that however Texas has managed to stitch itself together through trying times is working. It ain't perfect, far from it, but go try Michigan or California or someplace else and you'll appreciate the situation here. Does the person at the top get blame when things go bad. Yup. So I guess he gets credit when it's relatively good.

My concern about Bill White is will be beholden to the party and to the PAC that is spending millions to defeat Perry. Even though I don't like Perry, I like his position on asking for military to help secure the borders, his fight against over-regulating the oil and gas industry and his position against Obamacare.

Border security is the big issue since our hospitals are seeing increased expense for delivery of babies. Medicaid pays $400 per delivery while private pay insurance pays $1000.

I think Bill White will not be as tough on illegal immigration and will pander to Obama failure to enforce the law.

The well funded PAC is attempting to detract voters from the big issues by being negative. White appears to be a good guy; but the ads will only tarnish his image. Also, Democrats stand against big coroporations while embracing big plantiff trial lawyers.

The Texas AFL-CIO had a house for him, for 1 dollar. He turned it down. He needs a mansion, not a 600,000.000 expense to taxpayers.
