Pilot's trained for that. While making that slow nose up pass, the pilot is paying extremely close attention to any wobble, and thinking "if this thing banks at all I've got to punch out quick". He probably had one hand at the ready for eject the whole pass. Chances are he did so calmly while everyone watching freaked.

He got out just in the nick of time, so I guess it wasn't a case of premature ejection...
