To Beat The Mike Leach Thing To Death ...

Adam James, the spare player who was placed in a "storage shed", took this video while he was in there. And his family thought he'd get sympathy by releasing it today. You've got to be kidding. What a little baby. And Craig James, his father, has to regret ever bringing this silly thing to the attention of Tech. His son is forever labeled.

Geez, I totally understand this. He is being PUNISHED for having a concussion and not being able to work out.

Why would you punish a kid for that?

He is put in a closet for 2 hours, because he can't practice? Twice?

What a draconian attempt to humiliate him!

This whole thing is a cluster.

If I'm the chancellor I wait until the season is over to go public with this thing. Let Leach coach the bowl game and then fire him. $800,000 loss or not. The scholorship loss from this will hurt the program for years.

The boy needs to man-up or get out of football and go take a crochet class. Leach got robbed.

Craig James should feel good about himself. He's had a hand in bringing down 2 college football programs.

James kid should be made to run for having cell phone at practice.

Adam James' football career is over unless he finds a spot as 3rd string backup receiver on a Euro League team. He never embraced his inner pirate.

Leach will win a National Championship. Haarrrr!

I hope this kid gets ran out of lubbock and people give him he'll the rest of his life

Why not wait until after the season to come forward with the complaint by James? Leach was fired so he wouldn't be paid the $800,000 bonus he earned.

Locking the kid up in a dark place didn't hurt him. It is not like the coach forced him to practice.

No one was thinking about the kids playing the bowl game.

Who cares?

Enough already.

Wake up people!!!

This kid's a Silver Spoon fed Tit.

He has a concussion but he takes the time to video the room he's in? Good Lord!

On top of that how do we know that was the actual room?

Look, this kids a slacker from the word go and his Daddy should have his ass kicked for allowing his son to be such a tit and stirring the pot at Tech. THe full story is not out on this deal yet but I would bet when it hits Daddy James and tit Adam are going to look like the oofs they are.

Craig James needed to get his name in Headlines again to promote his career.

Done Deal!

What an opportunity to be the man who took down a crooked coach.

Bravo to Adam James for providing irrefutable proof that Leach is an abusive thug who thinks nothing of punishing someone for having been INJURED while playing football under Leach's direction/instruction/supervision.

No! Adam James will NOT be "forever labeled." Intelligent people have other things on their minds than the BS that is college football/sports. The simpletons who live and breathe sports might label Adam James but it will not matter to James nor will it adversely impact his life.

You sportsNUTZ who are attempting to justify the abusive behaviour of EX-Coach Leach have as many issues as National Geographic and TRULY need to rethink your priorities and dig deep in an attempt to understand why YOU believe it is ever appropriate for a person in a position of authority to abuse/demean a person in their care.

Here is a thought...All you people who agree with the abuse dished out by Leach need to make your INJURED child stand for three hours in a dark closet while you run errands and/or do chores. Next time your child is injured playing sports and is unable to practice just lock them in a dark closet until they can suck it up and get back in the game. No doubt, CPS will be all over your stupid arses.

Is it just me or did this kid just disprove his point? Leach was a nut, but this kid and his dad are pu$$y's. If the video is accurate, there was not only a chair but a light in the blackened room? And how can Craig "I am an idiot and brought down two programs" James not have known this would get this much attention. You bring it up the week before a bowl game at a school in a BSC Conference in Texas? That SMU education sure PAID off didn't it!!!!!

It's 8:15 Thursday morning, December 31, 2009 and Tech still sux!!!

I'm sure there is a LOT we don't know and maybe never will. My biggest problem here is with ESPN and them allowing James to talk about this on the air! Wonder what it would cost Tech to break any contracts they have with ESPN and sue them for defamation (if they are going to allow James to tell his side with no disclaimer, then they put his comments out there as their own!)

Anonymous said...

Sad for the kid!

His football career is over!

He life at Texas Tech is over!

His is now history and will need to live off of his fathers good name.

What is a "sock puppet?"

What is most distrubing about all of this are the Tech loyalist who will condone any behavior of a coach who wins. Winning trumps all.

Can Tech not find a coach who can win and be moral, sober, etc?

So far I haven't seen the evidence that Adam is a spoiled kid, nor that his Dad is any more of a father than the others of the team.

It is a fact however, that whitleblowers as a group don't fare well in the public's mind regardles of the ultimate good that comes from their courage.

I still say, Tech officials did not climb out on this limb without incredible documentation of this incident and/or others.

MzChief -
10:21 here - I don't often agree with you but on this one I am in complete agreement with you.

"....more issues than National Geographic.." - Hilarious.

I thought your whole post was well-argued and well-said.

Which brings a little self-contemplation on my part - I usually think your posts are too mean. But this one I don't think is mean, just correct.

So does that mean when I agree with you, I evaluate your post with different standards?
Or is your argument today truly less mean than usual?

Hmmmmm. I don't know the answer to that.

Anyway, thanks for the laugh and the post.

This is an old fashioned pissing match with very little to do with Adam James. Tech admin vs. Leach. Problem for Leach is that he can't fire the admin...too bad.

All,

Concussion causes sensitivity to light, and heat will cause headaches. The cool dark "Shed" is exactly what is needed to reduce two of the major symptoms of the concussion until it stops being an issue. Boneheads all around. It is what needs to be done in the case of a concussion, not punishment.

Anonymous said...

9:57 -
You may be right, but Leach or his lawyer has never said. It was understood that it was a punishment for wearing sunglasses and not being able to practice.

There are many other cool, dimly lit places to go - you don't have to be sent to a closet alone with the door closed, only to come out when work out is over.

If that's the way Leach dealt with every athlete who had a concussion, then there is no issue here. So far, I haven't seen/heard that other athletes with a concussion were told to stay in the shed.

Anonymous said...

Good luck in the NFL sissie boy!!!!!

I'm not a fan of TT....but Leach is getting a bad deal here. If there are other issues that led to this firing, we need to see it, because Junior James situation is minor and a non issues. There was no harm done by sitting in that room.

Anonymous said...

This isn't the first time an ESPN announcer got a coach fired..... remember Oklahoma's baseball coach a few years back.

mzchief,
I'm pretty sure Adam WILL be labeled for the rest of his life. He won't be able to step foot on the University without harassment and persecution. Like father, like son, the tradition of the James' continues. I don't understand Leach as an "abusive thug." Which is a riduculous statement. The little $hit had a camera like a little baby so he could show his mommy and daddy. Boo hoo grow up. Leach will be hired as a head coach somewhere for an even greater salary and if he ever competes against Tech, he'll win every time because he is an unmatchable coach.

Good job Tech for kicking out the best coach you will ever have along with the best recruiting class Tech has had since the start.

Anonymous said...

Few things about this !) Leach had worn out his welcome at TT with his behavior toward the administration over the past 4 years 2) He had time to think about his actions before doing this to the player. This was not a heat of the moment thing. It was for 2 hours one day and another 2 hours two days later. He put a lot of thought into it and that is what is so scary about this. I enjoyed watching his teams play but he thought he was above the law. To all those TT backers out there crying ask yourself one question and answer it honestly What if this was your son?

Anonymous said...

MzCheap - have you ever played football? Have you ever played any organized sport where you had to actually "make" the team?

If not, STFU! You have no idea what type of mental/physical sacrifices are required to be a champion.

Do you have kids?

If yes, STFU! FMRI (Functional magnetic resonance imaging) has provided objective data which indicates that parents (especially) females suffer physiological shutdown (meaning ceases to function) of the areas of the brain responsible for producing critical evaluation of behavior when it involves their children. (i.e. parents can't think logically/critically about evidence when it concerns their offspring).

Other than that, keep posting moron.

What I meant about my question "What if this was your son?" is this-Your son has a concussion and as a result he is humiliated and isolated from the team in a shed/garage/closet/or room for the the entire practice not once but twice. What kind of message does this send to your son and the rest of the team? It means that if you have a head injury (concussion) and report it- this is what will happen to you!! This is why Leach was fired! He showed a total lack of common sense for the safety of his player(s)!!!

PS 10:21 you have no idea correction: only a 'vague' idea of what Draconian means don't you honey?

Anonymous said...

The only reason the James camp released this video is because Leach's lawyer released one showing a well-lit, clean and roomy "shed" claiming this was where James was locked up. Looks
TOTALLY different from the video that James took while he actually was locked up. Clearly the lawyer was trying to cover Leach's derriere, and if the James kid hadn't taken the video he did there'd be no way to refute a clear effort to hide the truth.

To anonymous 10:21/9:12...
I have come to realize, if people share enough opinions they will, at some point, discover a topic on which they agree. Trust me, I was just as condescending and contemptuous, as usual, to cretins who lack the intellect and/or integrity to realize that it is unethical and malicious for someone in a position of authority to abuse a subordinate.
**********************************************************

To anonymous Haters...
As for you dolts tossing out ad hominem attacks and have issues with me being me. When you have something to add to the discussion, other than the same old rant about how much me being me bugs the spit out of you, I might respond with something other than a self-satisfied smirk and sense of accomplishment. When people like you dislike me it means I am doing EVERYTHING right.

I'm not your honey.

I used "draconian" to mean cruel, but your post did make me look it up to see if I could have be wrong - that happens sometimes, I don't mind admitting that.

I found:
"(often lowercase) rigorous; unusually severe or cruel: Draconian forms of punishment."

So my use of the word was exactly what I intended it to be.

You might want to turn down your smugness dial; your arrogance is not justified.

From recently-released internal e-mails among Tech administration officials, it looks as though Leach's postseason firing has been in the works since the rancorous contract negotiations of last year. TTU officials were simply looking for an excuse.

One cannot "lock up" an athlete and claim it is discipline. To lock someone up against their will is the same as kidnapping. Check the law.
This coach is a loose cannon and any child is in danger with him as their coach. I totally agree with Mzchief about this coach punishing a kid because he had a concussion!
There is a very thin line in the coaching profession between disciplining a "whiner" and realizing a true injury. When a coach takes the medical profession into his own hands, that line has been crossed. Leach should lose his job and should never be allowed to coach again. I know if my kid was in the next school that hired him, I'd be quite concerned for my child's safety.
Some of you "whiners" on here are jocks of old who remember the days of hazing when it was not only allowed but was expected. Things have definitely changed, thank goodness, and those days are (better be) long gone. Frustrated jocks from those days of old are now some of today's coaches and never took the time to truly understand the laws that protect kids from abuse from those in authority over them. Here's the wake up call....if you abuse a kid, you WILL pay!
Anyone remember back in 2000 or so when DHS had several hazing incidents? No one (except those involved....and that includes coaches there) realized how very close all those men came to being prosecuted, thus losing their careers. It was an open and shut case. Pretty much just like this case in Tech. Wise up folks. Shame on you, Barry. You SHOULD know the law here.
