Random Wednesday Morning Thoughts

  • That was weird: It snows, it gets dark, and we wake up to warmer temperatures.
  • Any votes on the Top Story of the Year that the Wise County Messenger always runs? I suspect it would be the death of Sgt. Randy White of the Bridgeport PD.
  • The victim of a jewelry store robbery in Lewisville said on Fox 4 about the the crook, "He said a word in Yiddish that I won't repeat on TV but it wasn't good. But I'm still here." I have no idea what he means.
  • Knee jerk reaction to the Tech vs. Mike Leach saga: Somebody in the administration wants him gone. Completely. But I doubt if he's breached his contract, he'll call their bluff and refuse to leave, and the only way to get rid of him will be to completely buy out the remainder of his contract.
  • I remember when A&M wanted, and did, get rid of Coach R.C. Slocum. How'd that work out? This could be Texas Tech's Waterloo.
  • WBAP's Mike Lamb on Leach seeking a temporary injunction this morning: "He should know his way around a courtroom." He was referring to Leach having a law degree. However, Leach was never licensed since he chose not to take the bar exam. (Which was a great career move, by the way.)
  • You guys are crazy if you think the Bush Administration would have released those two guys from Gitmo (see yesterday's post) if they thought they were terrorists. They would have been hesitant to release Billy Graham from Gitmo.
  • The Wise County courthouse seems to shut down pretty quickly at the fear of inclimate weather.
  • The 2000s should be remembered as the Decade of the Flat Screen. Think how things have changed since 1999.
  • I'm the biggest anti-government/personal privacy guy I know, but the x-ray like body scan at an airport seems like a good idea to me.
  • I'll get to report on the hassle of international travel this weekend. I'm off to Costa Rica and I intend to bore you to death with daily posts.
  • I dare anyone to watch "Fox and Friends" and tell me it is "fair and balanced." Their hatred of Obama is palpable. (But I remember watching it 10 years ago and it was a pretty funny and care free show.)
  • Headline that was still on the Star Telegram's home page this morning: "Freezing Fog Could Make Morning Rush Hour Treacherous."
  • The Today Show sure made a big deal about the kid in Brazil who was ordered by a court to be returned to his father. I'm not sure anyone really cared about a high tone child custody case.
  • I eat a ton of microwavable low fat pizza.
  • Mark Davis' column today: Even in the days after 9/11, there was a call to "bring those responsible to justice." Columnist Charles Krauthammer wrote that week: 'This is exactly wrong. Franklin Roosevelt did not respond to Pearl Harbor by pledging to bring the commander of Japanese naval aviation to justice. He pledged to bring Japan to its knees. You bring criminals to justice; you rain destruction on combatants."
  • But the flaw in that statement is obvious: Japan was a country that could be found on a map.

Charles Krauthamer understands we are in a war just like FDR understood we were in a war against Japan! The terrorist' plot to send suicide bombers trained in Yemen to blow up airplanes to kill us do not deserve lawyers or the right to remain silent under our system of justice. They should be tried by a military court and taken out and shot!

More are coming and we are not being protected by Obama and his homeland security team.

Yemen can be found on the map and if they harbor terrorists, than they need to be bombed! Or we can get on an airplane and be ready to take on the suicide bomber ourselves!

You have to love the "New America!"

New York City estimates the cost of hosting the 9-11 Terrorism Trials will exceed $75 million dollars.

We should save the money and just set them free!

Then when they attack and kill us next time we can kill them.

What a wonderful situation.

Non-Citizens guaranteed the rights of U.S. Citizens when attempting to kill them.

Did someone say that "Global Warming" was a problem.

Things are just heating up with these guys!

on fox and freinds. i flip between morning joe and fox every morning. and its a perfect contrast. fox is very critical of obama while joe and his libs are fawning and panting over him. see? i no longer have to worry about bias. because they balance each other out.

Of course Bush didn't turn loose people thought to be dangerous. but then again, why would Gitmo be any different from our regular prisons......people come out far meaner than when they went in.

There is Fox and Friends "hatred" for Obama? I gather they've called him Hitler then, right? They've launched personal attacks against him?

Or is it their critical looks at Obama's policies that irk you so? (One reason Fox News seems so different from other media is that they are the only ones asking tough questions of the Obama administration.) I think your Liberal Leanings are compelling you to dilute your definition of the word, counselor.

What Liberals often describe as hatred for Obama is simply opposition. However, with the same fervor as displayed by other religious fanatics, those who worship Obama must demonize those who don't.

Including in Global Warming is CLIMATE CHANGE - notice any of that lately?

Their hatred of obama is justified, not the man himself, but for the way he portrays the office of POTUS. Kudos to Fox and Friends for speaking the truth about obama, why should they blow smoke up peoples asses? Most people understand what's going on, and if they don't, they are either color blind, a far left nut, or just plain dumbasses.

I don't think Fox's "hatred" of Obama is any different than CNN's "hatred" of Bush. I don't think your "hatred" of Bush is any different than many of your constituents "hatred" of Obama. You seem pretty set in your thoughts, they in theirs. Personally, I don't care for either President too much and see some good in both of them too.

That said, you are the crazy one if you think incarceration in Gitmo turned those two guys into terrorists. People are wrongly imprisoned all the time and I don't hear stories about them going on murder rampages after being released. It was wrong to release them in the first place but we must ask where all the pressure to turn those folks loose has come from.

I think the microwaved pizza may be affecting your synapses.

i think we should all start our lawn mowers and see if we cant warm this place up a bit.

As far as Fox and Friends...

Reality sux doesn't it? Some people just can't handle the truth.

Barry,

I completely agree with your assessment on the Mike Leach situation...someone wants him gone. It would appear that the injunction is going to be granted (the hearing has been moved to 10 a.m. to accommodate the AG's office). I'll be heading over to see how it plays out. The collective belief of our office is that Leach will be terminated should he prevail, thus opening up Pandora's box. More to come....

Putz?

Inclement weather - not inclimate

What Mike Lamb probably meant was that Leach knows his way around the law books...not the courtroom.
Besides, even if he didn't study law, he's smart enough to be lawyered up. And the lawyer would tell him to file the injunction in a heartbeat.
Isn't filing injunctions and restraining orders - for a lawyer - kinda like buying a new high-powered deer-hunting rifle? You've just got yourself a great new tool, but it's gonna take some skill to make the kill!

I read that Mike Leach gets an $800,000 bonus if he is still the coach as of January 1. That would make termination on Thursday a smart move financially, if that's what they intend to do.

You've posted that girl before but, not in the poool.

Not complaining just observating.

Anybody who actually watches Fox and Friends will tell you it's fair news-reporting just to spite you.

The witch hunt of coaches for mistreatment of players has to stop. It's ridiculous & childish. But I have to admit that I'm excited about Leach leaving West Texas. Tech deserves what they get in return. So does Kansas.

You think Fox is biased watch the dumb cluck on CNN Rachel Maddow and that idiot head Keith Oberman. They would suck at the tit of Barack Obama given the chance. That show makes me want to throw up my dinner! Give me FOX anyday.

Fox and Friends doesn't show a hatred for Obama in my view like Keith Olberman doesn't show a hatred for Bush in your view.

Bottom line: You like Obama and the idea of a Socialist Government however, I can't understand why, if your such a believer in the Federal Government staying out of our lives and invading our privacy, what in the hell do you think the Obama administration is doing now?

Leach was hired under old A.D. (was it Gerald Meyer?) and new A.D. didn't want to re-sign him to a big $ contract last year. So Leach took an unannounced trip to Washington and interviewed for the then vacant head coaching position there. When word leaked out of Washington that they had interviewed Leach, the A.D., who knew nothing about it at all, was flooded with calls and e-mails from angry Tech fans and he flat out didn't have any answers. So very pissed off, he low balls Leach in the contract negotiations, Leach threatens to leave, leaks story to press about low ball offer, and then the University President steps in and cuts a deal with Leach half an hour. I wonder if the A.D. is the guy who wants Leach gone and it so, whether he will demand return of his balls upon Leach's departure.

11:30-- I think G. Meyer is the AD now.

You should stick to sports (and chicks), your understanding of the world and the cruel reality of hatred sucks. Your liberal veiws are so bazzar in that they come from such an intellegent person.

I'm really scared of where we will be after three more years of your kind of thinking. God help us all.

Japan was a country that could be found on a map. Solution...wipe it off the map.

And you are going to send us posts from a place that doesn't have TV? Have a great time.

Fox balanced? Compared to NBC, CBS, etc? OMG yes!
