- For the weather folks to normally be pretty vague about snow, they have been dead certain about this one: Arriving around noon with 1 to 3 inches.
- Mike Leach is "strongly considering" taking legal action to try and be reinstated for the Alamo Bowl. Hot Sports Prediction: The marriage between Leach and Tech is headed for divorce court. Very soon.
- News that got almost no publicity yesterday: Nine people, including six children, died in an apartment fire in Mississippi.
- I would be stunned if Fox and Time Warner Cable don't work out their relationship issues.
- Isn't' this the hardest week of the year to stay motivated?
- Ticket Fans only: Here's an MP3 of the "Best of The Rant." (Fans of the old Gordon Keith Saturday morning show just passed out.) Edit: More Ticket News!: We found Greggo.
- I saw a guy being helped up after slipping on the ice on the south side of the Decatur square late yesterday afternoon. Note to merchants over there: If you have a sheet of ice on the sidewalk outside your store that won't melt, do something about it.
- If Dallas beats Philadelphia and the Giants beat the Vikings and Green Bay beats Arizona, Dallas gets a first round bye? Yep. Unlikely to happen, but still amazing.
- Two former Gitmo prisoners, released in 2007, are behind the plot to blow up Flight 253 on Christmas Day? Yeah, you hold a bunch of guys at Gitmo for years without sufficient evidence, decide to finally let them go because you've got nothing on them, and they then turn into pissed off terrorists? Who would have thought?
- Shocking words from a lawyer blog about a 45 year old colleague who had passed away and whose friends would remember him at a "local saloon" in Amarillo later that day: I’ll put this as adroitly and tactfully as I can. But honestly - and I address this to all of Joe’s dear friends - is this truly the appropriate thing to do when we all know what killed Joe? He drank himself to death.
- Hey, now.
- Without looking it up, I don't know what "adroitly" means.
- TCU played and beat five teams this season that went to bowl games. All five of those teams have won those bowl games. I may be coming around on TCU.
- Up until last year, the Wise County DA's office managed its cases with a database program I designed in Access in 1993. And it was fantastic.
- Post Christmas Depression anyone?
- Tell me I can leave the country with a passport and a birth certificate but no driver's license. (Lost wallet and vacation callback reference.)

Barry, how about this scenario. Two people are held because we know they are terrorists and just can't get enough intel to satisfy the lawyers so we let them go. Now they go about doing what terrorists do. They were terrorists before they we detained and are still terrorists. Why is they go after civilians instead of the people who detained them? Cowards.
So Barry, the plot to blow up flight 253 is our fault? Plz explain.
All you need is your passport.

Hey now - 6.25
Hey BG:
1) Totally agree with the Gitmo opinion. Our actions are creating new terrorists. Obama is falling right in line with the Neocon way of thinking. But, good luck getting anyone around here to agree.
2) Difference between Mike Leach and Gary Patterson: Leach wants celebrity status, Patterson doesn't. Leach is a great coach, but needs to stop watching reruns of his 60 minutes interview.
3) Thanks for coming around on TCU. Fiesta bowl will be a dangerous game as Boise is a great team.
4) Happy New Year to all!
adroitly - without looking it up: deftly, skillfully. (Now checking at Dictionary.com...) "cleverly skillful, resourceful, or ingenious...." Pretty close.
It's interesting that the only thing you got out of the al-Qaida story is "America made them terrorists." Also, I missed the part of the story where it says we had nothing on them. Did you simply make that up out of whole cloth, counselor? If so, not up to your normal journalistic standards. If anything, their actions seem to indicate that we releasted prisoners who were guilty of the very thing for which they were being held. According to the story, the two prisoners in question were turned over to the Saudis for "rehabilitation." It looks like the Bush administration did exactly what Liberals would want. Of course, the whole episode illustrates the Liberal terrorist philosphy of "when in doubt, let them out." If a few airliners and a few hundred passengers get blown up in the process, at least we did the right thing. Right?
Definitely the hardest week of the year to stay motivated. Just sat down at work and already thinking of excuses why I need to leave earlier and earlier.
Call me crazy but I think them terrorist dudes provided plenty of evidence as to why they were being held at Gitmo. Call my insane but it sounds like the crazy people are the people who let the nut jobs out of prison.
This blog has run its course.
"If Dallas beats Philadelphia and the Giants beat the Vikings and Green Bay beats Arizona"
if a frogs ass wasn't water tight it would sink and drown...
"let them go because you've got nothing on them, and they then turn into pissed off terrorists? "
You would think they would be happy to be free and go back to their lives; unless they were terrorists before being locked up... I guess we should have just done like China and executed them; remove all doubt of future problems.
"Tell me I can leave the country with a passport and a birth certificate but no driver's license."
Just ask any politician if your looking for someone to tell you what you want to hear... elections are coming up!
Miami beach looks like the place to be right now...
A driver's license doesn't prove squat. DoTs pass those things out like breath mints at an AA meeting
I'll pass on the "hey now". When they start resembling bovine creatures headed for the milkhouse, I'm usually out
I thought the same thing about Leach. Even if he somehow gets reinstated for the bowl game, his days of plundering on the llano estacado are over. Muy malo
There's also the possibility that the two Gitmo terrorists actually were guilty of something, but the gov't just couldn't prove it. Either way, you know Homeland is gonna say "See!? We were right about these guys!"
You've given the Decatur square merchants fair notice
Now you need a cool nickname along the lines of "the Hammer". I can picture the TV ad now...
"Have you been injured in a fall due to a merchant's negligence? I'll pluck the money out of their wallets one bill at a time. Call the tough Texas Tweezers!"
~disclaimer mumbled under breath about not being certified by the Texas board of something or other~
What say you Al Gore? I love global warming. Average DFW temperature for December is 4.4 degrees below normal. Bismark, ND average is 4.8 degrees below normal. If the rest of the nation is like us then there are some hungry cattle out there trying to find forage. Four degrees drop along with snow cover aint't good. It equals weight loss in cattle. If this goes on into January, I would fill my freezer before the rest of the nation figures this out.
I'm always interested when someone tosses out that word. 841 - Please define "neocon," your use of it, and how a neocon differs from a conservative. From the context, you seem to be using it as an insult. Is that correct?
Just further proof that the liberal idealist has no way of understanding what is going on in this world much less the goals of Islamic extremists. You cannot apply an academic solution to problem of this magnitude.
Americans need to get over the fact that possibly a few innocent middle easterners were tortured along the way, who cares, these people are beneath us. This is about protecting a way of life that is worthy of protecting. I am beyond respecting other cultures beliefs and ideals when clearly we know they are backwards.
I wonder if Mike Leach will still be at Tech when his cameo in Friday Night Lights airs?
TCU is for real. Might as well get your head wrapped around that.
Wasn't the complete title of Gordo's show "The Bohemian Rant"?
Gitmo created the terrorist? Barry its a shame, although I failed to agree with you on most topics I actually respected your opinion up until today.
Surely you have been to the DPS to get a duplicate DL. It will be interesting to know where your billfold finally turns up. Be sure and inform us.
If holding those poor innocent guys at Gitmo turned them into terrorists, someone at Homeland Security better start a file on Adam James. He will probably turn into a jock strap or a pair of shoulder pads.
What a relief...I can finally put away that "Where's Greggo?" T-shirt I've been threatening to wear
Triple Fake bottle of prescription meds
The Pic for today is absolutely, smoking hot!!!!
Good Lord!!
I don't see anything wrong with her but then again you know there's some schmoe out there who's tired of her crap!!
But then again he's probably already sacked her which makes him a lucky Schmoe.
Leach is a little different.
Do you realize before a person becomes a terrorist they're a baby terrorost?
I believe the Frogs will beat Boise State 55-14 to prove a point. That should cause a reaction.
Happy New Year to all and be safe. I have to go find out what the Tuesday morning pic is doing for New Years and see if she likes short, fat, bald guys. Keep your fingers crossed.
Double Fake: George Stanza
Have you ever been asked for a birth certificate or driver's license when you leave the country? I've only been asked for my passport and sometimes my itinerary.
Neocon is an oxymoron.

I'm sure Traders Village will be able to fix you up with a DL. They will put whatever name you want on it. wink wink ;)
I thought Oxymoron was that cleaning stuff Billy Mays used to sell on the TV.
Greggo we're pulling for you!

I think BG has a Muslim boyfriend and he has to defend them no matter what.
The scenario for the Cowboys getting a first round bye is not only likely - there's a good chance it could happen. The Giants are PO'd that they got a drubbing by a very average Carolina team, so they have something to prove. Aren't the Packers and Cards still also wrangling for improved seeding? And the Cowboys? Well...that's 50/50
Still, I'm almost hoping they don't get a bye. They are on a roll and I don't want them to get cold by taking a week off. Plus, if they lose a playoff game, and Romo is seen anywhere - even grabbing a burger and tots at Sonic - we'll never hear the end of it from those two "sports editorialists" at the S-T
If the defense plays the way it has the last couple of weeks, and no turnovers, they should be okay
I would think it would be the City of Decatur's job to sand, salt, or scrape the ice on Main Street and/or sidewalks around the Courthouse!? Park and walk at your own risk...it's not like you can't see the ice.
"Two former Gitmo prisoners, released in 2007, are behind the plot to blow up Flight 253 on Christmas Day? Kind of an odd take on this brother- the people at Gitmo are/were 99+ % monsters. No, I wouldn't be surprised at anything they'd do.
Umm, maybe ONE more reason to keep them caged 'til Allah takes them home from their deathbeads at a nice elderly age?
Unless you plan to rent a car. Those auto rental companies frown on not having a driver's lic.
Concerning the Gitmo prisoners, just another reason why they should be under lock and key!!!
"Muslim boyfriend." teehee
"I think BG has a Muslim boyfriend and he has to defend them no matter what." Have you ever noticed that BG defends anything that goes against the rules and laws of our culture.
That chick is sporting the new Decatur FFA tractor restoration costume. That is her "ask me about tractors" smile.
Hey Barry, looks like someone else is into Muslim boys. Apparently Karl Rove is getting divorced AGAIN. He's all for defending traditional marriage, except for when it applies to him! While it doesn't explicitly say it in the article, many insiders have known about his lust for "Allah ass" for years!
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/politics/bush_adviser_karl_rove_divorced_SEVad4BBTq6gAk4K0xzgaO
1259 - Marriage is hard enough for a regular couple. Forget all the personal problems the Roves may have had. Imagine the pressure when a substantial segment of the population -- strangers who have never met you -- hates you by proxy because you're married to someone with whose politics you disagree.
Defending traditional marriage and wanting to get out of a traditional marriage are not mutually exclusive
Random thought girl makes my sticker peck out!
Calm down Wordkill, you've been doing pretty good leaving out the boring political drivel lately and I may be feeling better about you than in the past.
Of course we are creating terrorists at gitmo. Thank God for the ACLU and the band of merry lawyers that they employ to free these poor innocent men who have been victimized all their lives by the USA. The only way we can make up for our sins in the middle east is to allow them to kill as many of our civilians as possible and then provide them with an attorney so that they can be rehabilitated and sent to Bermuda. Barry do you have your application in with the ACLU yet I hear they are hiring.
"Yeah, you hold a bunch of guys at Gitmo for years without sufficient evidence, decide to finally let them go because you've got nothing on them, and they then turn into pissed off terrorists?"
Please, just kill yourself now before you and your kind wind up killing all of us.
200 - I was beginning to fear that you had been busted by the owner of the website. You know, the person who owns the rights to your pet name for me. Really, though, you need to find someone who can appreciate you more.
In reference to the "Hey Now" pic. Coco on the beach? Who's kid is that? There ain't no Ice T genetics in that little pasty kid. Makes me feel better that someone else has "stirring the Coco".
Of all the stupid things you've said, the terrorists comment may be the most stupid. THEY WERE TERRORISTS BEFORE THEY WERE IN GITMO, WE DIDN'T CREATE THEM...Some people are actually bad people.
First we kill all the liberals.

Wordy,
People don't hate Rove because of his political beliefs.........he has none except winning and doing what it takes to win regardless of the consequences.
People hate Rove because of what he CAUSED!! He took a Texas Ranger's front man and moved him to Washington to be a front man for the neocons.......and we will be years undoing the damage.
No one ever accused him of believing anything he or his front man spouted.
He was adroit at winning because he knew no boundaries.....personal destruction of the opponent was central to all his strategies.
While I'm not the third person in the bedroom, but I'm guessing he applied the same strategies to his marriage.
I see it's time to tune in Greggo!
The talking-headed King has been slow to speak on the terrorist attack, hasn't he? Too much vacationing I suppose.........
We hate George Soros because he took a chicago street thug community organizer and paid the way for him to be president.
Wordkill,I'm not sure what your reference is to someone busting me who owns a website unless you meant Barry.
And I have found that special person you mention although I have been considering Divorce but that's another story.
Anyway, thanks for trying. You are doing so much better.
Ecce signum.
Not sure I follow your logic on Gitmo. My sense tells me he probably had something to do with terrorism that landed him there in the first place. I seriously doubt he was a choirboy who only "got pissed off" because he was allegedly falsely imprisoned.
The non-delusional conclusions that one might draw would be a) as long as he's at Gitmo, he's not committing terrorism (terraism, if you prefer), or b) if we kill him, he won't commit any terrorist acts. Respecting the rule of law, we forgo the latter.
The inference that this guy would not have been a terrorist save for the fact that he spent time at Gitmo, is, alas, unsupported.
Today's RTG = Skank alert. Sorry to have to break the news.
Fox 4 sure is blasting Time Warner, but won't mention that the disagreement is a result of the fact Fox wants to charge Time Warner a lot more for the rights to include Fox in its lineup. Fox has raised the price, and is now beating up their customer who is balking at the higher price.
504 - That's so precious. When you act all slow-witted and thick like that, you make everyone smile. I'm glad that my remarks please you enough to respond. Now go vote a straight Republican ticket.
Kudos to Wordy for the Latin reference. A term used in possibly one of the finest scenes in Bard-dom: Act II, scene iv of King Henry IV - Part 1.
But Wordy, I don't envision you as Falstaff...
My friend just called me a Ho.
Actually S-Ho
Is that bad or good?
Sarah
Rumor had it many American Airline employees used to leave a small piece of a pork rind in each plane they worked. This not only stimulated the economy one bag of chips at a time, but made sure there were no virgins waiting for the terrorist if he died blowing it up, because they died with swine.
I like the random thought girl.
Coco on the beach, that just looks like a blast.
instead of shipping them to il. so that obama looks good to his home state. leave them there and tunr the place into a pig farm as for terrorist on the plane debrief them then march them out in public with a pork product duct taped to them and then shoot them saves us money and shows that we are not putting up with the muslim terrorists who wish to cause americans harm. there is only one kind of terrorist that is good and that is a dead one
hey 900 am, it's "climate change", not "global warming". your comment does not support your sarcasm. in fact, quite the opposite.
Hey Now- those are some of the nicest sock puppets I've seen in a long time.,
Hey 5:03 AM
In the 70s, it was fear of another ice age. Then at the turn of the century, it became global warming. Just recently it became climate change since there IS NO SCIENCE to back up this theory.
Big boy all went from being worth 1 million in 2000 to 1 billion in 2009 by promoting global warming... now he promotes climate change...
It looks like he's follows the money, no matter what it takes to promote his crusade...
hey 902, you say tomato, i say tomato. guess it doesn't matter, since we'll be long gone before it really makes a difference. and, there is science that supports the theory. it's just real science, so it's difficult to understand.
er, soz, the "real science" that you tout has been tainted. Manipulation of data, exclusion of conflicting evidence, intimidation of editors of scientific journals to prevent their publishing non-anthropogenic climate change articles, efforts to destroy the reputations of scientists who disagree with the "theory," for starters. You know, the Chicago way. Those methods don't say much for the scientific objectivity of global warming alarmists. If you have to use fraud to argue your science, then your science is not valid.
there is debate to the legitimacy of those claims and the "distortion" of the science. i would point you to some scientists who offer these views, but i suspect your mind is made up, and that's cool. either way, i think dismissing even an intelligent dialogue of the issue is woefully unproductive, regardless of your beliefs (which, let's be honest, none of us are going to change our minds about). but you do raise a good point as to the cutthroat nature of "science" and the fact that there is so much profit to be had through it.
i like to remember the guys who were called heretics by claiming that maybe the Earth wasn't the center of the universe. turns out, there were right. but they're "science" was poo pooed too... maybe we'll be reincarnated as dung beatles and we can see for ourselves someday. of course, without thumbs or even actual mouths we won't be able to gloat over each other, but still...
have a safe new year's. here's hoping that Barry gets some good business over the break and the hospitals don't.
The fact that there is a debate is my point. Only one side is claiming that the debate is over -- the side accused of cooking the data in order to validate their claims of anthropogenic global warming. As to the "debate" about the legitimacy of the accusations of fraudulent science, much can be cleared up if the accused parties simply fully disclose their information -- something that they have resisted. Even NASA is having to be threatened with legal action for not complying with FOIA requests. If the scientists are not guilty, they are acting as though they are.
Full disclosure and real debate -- that's all the "deniers" ask. (Oh, and for governments not to enact cataclysmic legislation based on now-questionable "science.")
right on. the day we stop having dissent is the day i truly fear.
happy new year
