Texas Tech's Mike Leach Fired

I'm not surprised. Thank goodness there is a school that doesn't exist JUST to protect their AD. People would be surprised to know how much abuse of kids is actually covered up by schools just so their "beloved" coach doesn't get a black mark against him. I'm proud of this kid and his parents for standing up to what is right and expected common sense treatment of human beings. Leach should not only be fired, but he should be black balled and never allowed to coach anywhere again! What he did is shameful!
I have never been so disappointed or embarassed for my alma mater.

This school has become a total joke. Their football program is now destined for years and years of fail. And deservedly so.
His actions against the spoiled kid were probably secondary to him getting fired, obviously. He is an administration nightmare....you have to know the risk of his soon to be announced law suit had to have been evaluated by all levels of the school and they would rather him be gone and ultimately payout millions.
I doubt Leach did anything silly with the kid other than open his smart a$$ mouth one to many times to his disrespected supervisors.
Good coach who believed his own shi$ and it got him FIRED. He will be back and he will be fired again.

Welcome back to mediocraty Tech fans.....
Success in sports, even at the college level, doesn't come cheap. There is a certain level of dedication that is expected of players, and the coach's job is to extract that level of dedication from the players. If a parent sends his or her son to a football factory like Texas Tech with the expectation that life is going to be all sunshine and daffodils then they have unreasonable expectations. Leach, like Bear Bryant, Barry Switzer, and scores of other winning coaches before him places winning at the top of his list of things to do. Crybabies like James, who wasn't hurt or injured by anything done to him following his concussion, don't place an emphasis on winning. i don't think Gary Patterson would do what Leach did, but i'd be willing to bet he doesn't feel his profession has been all that sullied by what Leach did.
My sister lives in Lubbock----they listened to the live feed for the hearing THAT NEVER GOT STARTED!. Leach's attorney was handed the termination paper/letter prior to the hearing beginning. Also reported: Leach is such an arrogant pompass ass that he is actually in San Antonio (guess he thought the hearing would go his way!) I think there is still a HUGE amount of information that we don't know about. Regardless of which side you are on, you'd have to hate to be Adam James! Hope his daddy can hide him out for a while!

They'll go out and hire the son/brother-in-law/son-in-law of some former player/coach, pay him a hundred thousand dollars a year, give him a new pair of pointed-toe boots every other year, and a case of Budwiser for every game they win and the poor SOB will think he's in tall cotton. We had that with Spike Dikes and won a average of 6 games a year. Leach comes in and wins more than 8 a year and that POS AD Meyers (yeah, a former basketball player, bb grad assistant, bb assistant, bb coach, now AD....see what I mean) gets his boat rocked and fires the guy. What a moron Meyers is!

And is there any doubt that Leach will be hired pretty quickly by a university that can attract more talented recruits? At a substantial increase in pay? The only losers are Tech football fans and parents of Tech students who will be forced to pay higher tuition to make up for the inevitable loss of football revenue.
Leach is an embarassment tho a successful one. What a compliment to the ex basketball coach Knight.

Jarhead is wrong. Tech fans will never put up with mediocrity the way my beloved Baylor has. Yet, I would'nt want Baylor kids put in sheds as punishment for not showing up for a workout after a concussion.
If I had to choose between the veracity of Leach or Craig James, that wouldn't be much of a contest. James in a heartbeat.
I'm betting that Tech uses the "fired for cause" language to avoid paying any more on Leach's contract, and that will be the interesting lawsuit.
Kansas should contact Leach today about becoming their head coach.

has anyone looked at the footage of this "shed" or "closet" that this kids claims he was put into. It looks to be at least a 10 X 20. AT LEAST. One of the players said that is was often used in the hot weather to cool down. Mike Leach is a pompous jerk, but this kid is a spoiled child who didnt like being made to do and ran to daddy. It is a shame that Tech hides behind a pitiful accusation to do something that they didnt have the guts to do!
I bet that one player's "fat little girlfriend" is happy as a pig in slop!

I hate to speculate without knowing exactly what happened, but I cannot fathom how being placed in a dark equipment shed could be all that bad, concussion or not. I simply cannot imagine anyone arguing that this is despicable or unfair treatment. If you cannot handle this type of punishment, or don't have the stomach to hear about it, there is a five letter word for people like you that starts with a "p" and ends with a "y".
I feel sorry for this James kid even if he does end up at SMU; this kid better practice hard and play through injuries if he wants to earn the respect of his new teammates. This incident will define him for the rest of his life.
I never particularly cared for Leach but a coach has to be able to discipline his players if he is going to have any chance of success. I have read the stories from both sides and there is nothing cruel or unusual about this punishment.

3:02 - I think he waltzed the primadonna dance and felt he should be higher than 7 of the Tech receiver depth chart. Daddy agreed and coach Leach had a different evaluation. Also Tech owed Leach an additional $800,000 if he was still coach on Dec 31. Sooo, a lot of factors added up to booting him (and he probably has an eye on another lucrative spot in addition to big bucks from Tech for this firing). I'll bet the James kid bails to some other school - and disappears.
Tech doesn't do this without the goods on Leach.
I have seen no evidence that young James is spoiled. I have seen a lot of leaping to conclusions.
Kid was recruited as a "greyshirt" which means he wasn't immediately on scholarship (sounds like Leach may have done Craig a favor by signing his kid).
Here's a quote from Scout.com during his recruitment from Adam himself:
"As a freshman I was 5-foot-9 and I was chubby,” James said. “I grew to about 6-foot-1 during my freshman baseball season and I’ve grown steadily ever since. I’m 6-foot-3 right now and I think I’m fixin’ to hit another growth spurt.
“I actually quit football to concentrate on baseball but after going to a few football games, I realized I made the wrong decision so I went back out for the team and played JV ball as a sophomore."
Sounds like a winner with a good work ethic to me.

im sorry but this is complete bullshit....adam james is just a spoiled little kid who was so used to getting everything he wanted when he was at Celina where they won 3 state championships while he was there. he was just so used to his parents and the school giving him what ever he wanted and when he got to tech he got a little reality check. he finally didnt get his way and decided to be a little pussy about it and tattle tale on the infamous Mike Leach. i say leach stays and James leaves, spoiled little bitch

Lots of BS on here about how spoiled he is, but what gives a Coach the right to close him up in a shed in the dark, to remain standing throughout practice,and to not lean or otherwise touch any of the walls?
Oh yeah, he had a concussion and doctors told him to wear sunglasses. Hell, Leach should have just had him drawn and quartered. *rolling eyes*
Face it Techies... Leach has been an assclown for the last several years. His win over Texas in 2008 elevated him to invincibility in his own eyes, but paved the way for his complete nuttiness to fully evolve in 2009.
Start fresh, hire a good coach, and drop the pirate, thug thing. In a couple of years you will be glad.
