I'm Not Sure I Understand The Controversy

This poster is being used by a the National Association of Latino Elected Officials (there is one?) to encourage minorities to take part in the census. It's been called "blasphemous." I'm not exactly sure why.

Well it is factually inaccurate. The census didn't cause Jesus to be born...so I understand that government people and Democrats may think procreation is caused by government fiat...but it actually works differently...so this is not how Jesus was born, it just gives the reason why Mary and Joseph were there and why the Inn was full. It trivilizes the birth of the son of God...so I can see why Christians might be upset about it.

I don't see a problem with it. Some people will find fault with anything.

Anonymous said...

They're assuming that lots of folks with kids named "Hay-soos" will respond?

And when did it become okay to invoke religion in a government campaign? (Yes, I know it's not the gov's doing, but it does involve them) If this had been done by a Republican organization, everybody would be up in arms about it

Many of you reading this will have experienced something similar or know of someone who has. The question is how can you get through the turmoil of losing a baby and turn it in to a healing experience?

Denney Crane said...

It's just another shining example of government using religion when it benefits their interests...

Why isn't the ACLU raising hell???

Anonymous said...

I don't see the issue either. If Latino's want to show how HAZOOZ was born so be it. I could care less.

Anonymous said...

The National Association of Latino Elected Officials need to read the Christmas story again.

Anonymous said...

What the hell is 10:46 talking about????

Anonymous said...

10:46 it’s no different than loosing ANY loved one. You deal with it no matter how hard it may be. You can either wallow in depression or live your life. Only you can decide which one you would rather do.

Anonymous said...

Maybe Herod suppposedly killing all the little two year and younger boys....? Still, it was kind of a WTF? comment.

Anonymous said...

What the heck does this poster have to do with any so called Christmas story?

It's someone on a donkey being led by someone else.

And, Jesus looks to me as 10:58 stated HAZOOZ.

You religous freaks need to realize that everything is not about you.

Anonymous said...

But Jesus wasn't Latino?!?!?

Anonymous said...

........."It's been called "blasphemous." I'm not exactly sure why.........

IF YOU'RE NOT SURE WHY BARRY, THEN YOU NEED TO PICK UP A BIBLE AND ASK FOR SOME GUIDANCE.

Anonymous said...

11:24..you aren't terribly bright are you...the poster says..how Jesus was born and mentions Mary and Joseph and shows a star shaped like a cross. I am guessing your just a stupid liberal and maybe you come by your ignorance honestly...but honestly... have you ever read the Christmas story? If had you would understand what the poster has to do with it. How did you manage to sign onto the computer in the first place?

Anonymous said...

Jesus is a Latino name. You should really quit assuming it is a religious name you know.

Anonymous said...

11:35...your comment is extremely hateful and not particularly relevant. There's nothing blasphemous about the poster. Get off your high horse!

Anonymous said...

Off the subject of the poster and the totally out of nowhere comment by 10:46: I need help with planning an outing for out of town family for Xmas. Any ideas for a fun and different something to do in the metroplex for 5 adults?

Anonymous said...

It's not blasphemous. It's just completely inaccurate and just dumb, no matter what your beliefs are. How a person is born is a totally different issue than where the mom happens to be at the time. Joseph and Mary probably also ate some food that day, but that's not how Jesus was born.

Anonymous said...

Only difference is Jesus now has a weedeater and a Toyota pickup instead of a donkey

Anonymous said...

I'm not insulted by the poster. What insults me is that whenever it fits the governments purposes they will use whatever means they can to gather information, but, just try to display a scene of Jesus' birth on a government lawn and see how much hell is raised.

Anonymous said...

Folks, the whole idea is to generate controversy and get this kind of attention, in order to add velocity to the message. When will you all realize that facts and accuracy don't matter anymore?

Anonymous said...

My dad filed an income tax return in 1965 and went to the post office to mail it. Is that how I was born that year?

To anonymous 11:48...
Dear, I would not, typically, bother to point this out to you however, since you were calling into question someone else's ignorance and lack of intellect allow me to point out something for you; in the future, rather than incorrectly using the word 'your' you should make it a habit to use the contraction, you're when you are attempting to say you are.

You're welcome.

Anonymous said...

Just imagine the holy hell that would break out if some group put out a poster encouraging white people to respond to the census.

Anonymous said...

mzchief...so a typo shows the same level of ignorance as someone who doesn't see the religious significance in Jesus, Mary and Joseph?

Anonymous said...

11:24 here!

HA HA HA HA HA HA

There is nothing funnier than getting a Christian zealot all worked up!

tsk...tsk.... That is one fine Christian attitude you got there!

You better go repent for that.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

10:40 and everyone else who thinks the big bad government is using religion when they feel like it - that poster was put out by a civil rights group. Not the government. Genius.

Anonymous said...

11:24 again.

11:48 I forget to correct you on something. I am a full blown CONSERVATIVE not a LIBERAL.

So put that in your communion cup and drink it!

Yesss.....you are right...Jesus CAN be pronounced in spanish and is a latino name.

So since Latinos can say Bob, Tom and Dick in spanish....those must be latino names too?

I think Bob, Tom and Dick could have been the 3 latino wise men.

Anonymous said...

Only the common folk would fall for this. Am I right?

Someone who is wise wouldn't.

Anonymous said...

So I followed the link and actually read the story....Perhaps something was lost in the translation here? They are not printing these in English but in Spanish, Creole, and several other languages. Just a thought.

Why is the advert considered to be anymore blasphemous than any of the other crazy Jesus merchandise intended to alter the behaviour of simple minded folk?

Just a few of my favourite pieces of Jesus merch:
1. Organ Donor for Jesus
2. Team Jesus
3. WWJD
4. Jesus Season

Get real people, even if you buy into the myth of Jesus' birth you have to realize that the Catholic church, long ago, fessed up to having wiped out/exterminated the pagans and gnostics, stolen their Winter celebrations and, sometime around 350 a.d., renamed the season Christmas and via Papal Order determined the 25th December as Jesus' birthday. Just because the Catholics named the season Christmas does not mean Jesus/Christ is the reason for the season. It just proves there is a very good reason why followers of Christianity are called a flock and Jesus is often referred to as their shepherd.

There are some people who do not need a myth to grant them permission and/or an excuse to celebrate the good fortune, friends, family and joy they have been blessed with throughout the past year. There are some people who actually consider it TRULY blasphemous and an insult to God for religious cults to worship a demi-god, based on myths and fables, rather than worshiping GOD.

You have to give props to the Jews and Muslims for adhering to the second Commandment of NOT worshiping or bowing down to graven images.

It actually is HOW Jesus was born, in a manger after a long ride on a donkey because his parents were responding to the census which required traveling to the man's home city..it is not how Jesus was CREATED/CONCEIVED or WHY he was born, which appears to be the implication from the above comments.

The "Don't be Afraid" is a bit creepy, understandable (since a lot of immigrants do not want to participate in the census because they are afraid of deportation or leery of government in general) but creepy.

Anonymous said...

I just wish that Jesus would learn to speak English and get a drivers license and insurance, because Jesus (well it was a woman Jesus) plowed into my parked PU and ruined a door. I personally would like to do a little census counting, and find out where she is hiding.

Wow...I'm truely sorry. I think how each person handles a tragic loss like that is different but I do know that healing comes from Jesus Christ. Give him all the hurt, anger, and sorrow that you have and let him do with it what he will.
In the meantime, do something that honors the baby you lost. Even if it is as simple as just getting up another day and living it as if it is our last because through loss we realize just how fragile life really is.
Keep your eyes and heart focused on Christ this holiday season and on the many blessings that you do have. There is no way around the grief but through it. I am praying for you now and will continue through the holidays that Christ will bring the healing you seek and that you will have the strength to honor the child you lost.
I know when things are going badly with me I tend to withdrawl from everyone but that just makes things worse. Reach out to your church friends or if you don't have a church the best Christian you know. If you aren't sure who to confide in, swing by Grace Fellowship Church. That is where I attend and I know that they are ready to listen and help cuz that is what they are there for and they have been a blessing to me!

Wishing peace for you this holiday
season:)

They've got nothing else to b@#ch about.

I keep going back and watching the Oklahoma ambulance girl video. I think she might be Jesus

Anonymous said...

I think Mzchief has it right on this one. GOD is the point, whatever name you call Him otherwise, Jesus, Allah, Yahweh, anything else...He's the same God. Jesus folk don't have the monopoly on God, though they like to think they do. And yes, I was raised a Christian until I opened my eyes and my mind to the fact that God is the common denominator, not organized sects.

Oral Roberts DEAD DEAD DEAD

One of the greatest con artists in the world.

Anonymous said...

We're all doomed.

Anonymous said...

2:51 - are we related?

3:06 - Not only was Oral Roberts a con artist like so many evangelists, but a crook (again - like so many evangelists)

Anonymous said...

11:48 - how obnoxious and self-important you are! The star is not a cross shaped star symbolizing the death of Christ - it is the bright North star symbolizing the birth of Christ.

Anonymous said...

Seems somebody (hint: that's you 1:19) missed the part where I (10:40 commenter) said "...it's not the gov's doing..." and then qualified that by also saying "...but it does involve them". The group is trying to increase involvement in a government-run program. I did NOT say the poster was put out by the gov't. I know the difference. Genius

Anonymous said...

Clearly an example of the great separation between Church and State!

Anonymous said...

How do you spell ACLU!

Anonymous said...

Looks like a great Christmas Card...Where can I buy one?

Anonymous said...

All I know right now is the Mexicans working on my roof work a hell of a lot harder than the white men.....in the cold, in the snow, in the fog, in the rain........the white men don't even show up on those days. And in my particular situation, I couldn't dare imagine "A Day Without A Mexican".........I wouldn't have a third of the roof I have now. I waited until one of those days that the white men didn't show up, and cooked the Mexicans a home-made carrot cake........they loved it, and I experienced a few extra moments of silence from the tromping around on my rooftop.

Anonymous said...

Jesus wasn't even white, nor English-speaking you tards.

Anonymous said...

I'm totally surprised that Silli named her spawn Romanian instead of Jesus. I thought she was a Mexican.

Anonymous said...

Mzchief is so misguided. Sorry I want be able to quench your thirst when you're burning in Hell. Jesus is the way and the only way. Following any other path is the road to destruction. I refuse to give the Muslims and Jews any props whatsoever as they both have rejected the one true son of God---Jesus.

Anonymous said...

Muslims, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, non-believers of all kinds, and the whole lot of us. All we really know for certain is that a huge majority of the world's population is absolutely convinced that they are right in their beliefs, but actually they are wrong. Has to be. There is only one truth, so AT BEST only one group has got it right. And we don't even know that for sure.

Why are penguins increasingly part of Christmas yard displays? How dumb does a person have to be to think that a penguin should be part of a north pole scene?

Anonymous said...

I like penguins. They're good on the grill.

This is so funny! All of you morons are reading so much into a little census poster...just a census poster. What the hell are you all afraid of? Can't you all live and let live?

Proud to be White, Blue Blood, Left Wing Democrat!!

8:31...Not only are you small-minded and brainwashed, but you are not particularly literate either, as it's "won't", not "want"!

Anonymous said...

9:01 PM
Some of us are sure because we have seen transformations in ourselves and others that only Jesus could bring about:)

When we are weakest...he is strong. If you haven't seen transformation, it is because you are controlling things. Surrender and watch what christ will do!

Anonymous said...

The christian nutbags are more annoying than MZ

Anonymous said...

9:26 How do you know the NAME of the spirit bringing about the transformation? Just because you ahve been taught to call that name Jesus, the entity may be a female, may be any other name, or no name. that's the whole point. All major world religions have a supreme being who brings about wonders and changes in the followers. You Jesus folk don't have a market on the Supreme Being, though you've been brainwashed to believe you have. (I'm not 9:01...I'm another person who agrees with the group that thinks you're shallow and small-minded.)

Anonymous said...

8:59 So, the spell check police are in the house! Give me a break. Geez! And Mzchief is still misguided!

mzchief said...

To anonymous 4:54...
Hmmmmm...Though I know, love, serve and pray to the same God as you, according to you, I am misguided because I do not worship a demi-god, like you. As far as I am concerned, YOU are the one who is, at the very least, misguided and at the very worst, evil.

Anonymous said...

10:54AM
Oh I do not know of ANY transformations from any God other than the one true God...Jesus Christ. Sorry just dont know and have NEVER heard of any.
