The Campaign For DA

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • I cannot find my wallet. Any where. But I learned you can "freeze" your credit card to give a man a chance to find it without having to cancel the number.
  • I went back to the convenience store in Fort Worth where I last used it and asked the clerk if a black wallet had been left behind the day before. In Mafia like fashion, he immediately shook his head and said, "No." I looked at him like I thought he was lying (or apathetic) and asked if he had a "lost and found box". He replied with the same smirking, "No." He probably didn't steal it, but I get some satisfaction in believing that he did.
  • I never lose my wallet. I'll misplace it for half a day, but never lose it.
  • I saw a guy going through a divorce argue with his lawyer in the Decatur courthouse hallway yesterday. "It's a verbal contract!!!!" the lawyer yelled. "I don't have $9,000!" the client yelled back. Neither one of them were in control. Of themselves.
  • I had my client tell me, "I don't like the vibe in this place" in referring to the courthouse. Tell me about it, bruther.
  • AnObiter wrote yesterday that she stayed in bed until noon because "sometimes, you just gotta." Good for her. Most of us don't have that choice, do we?
  • Five people have filed to run for JP #3: Mandy Lynn Hays, Harold W. Lisby, David W. Montgomery, Chad Hightower and Bill Burdock. Is the economy that bad?
  • I'd think a lot more of professional athletes visiting a children's hospital if they didn't notify the press beforehand.
  • I haven't seen the Geico pothole commercial in a week or so.
  • Every review I see of George Clooney's "Up In The Air" is outstanding.
  • The Golden Globes, which are far more entertaining and more relevant that the Academy Awards, announced its nominations this morning.
  • The U.S. would be less likely to declare war if a mandatory draft was (were?) required to go along with it.
  • That being said, Congress has yet to officially declare war on Iraq, Afghanistan, or even the Taliban.
  • Cute Denton book-in photos of the week: This and This.
  • I don't know any guy that uses "aftershave."
  • I saw these girls along the half marathon path and smiled.
  • I missed yesterday that the Messenger actually had the guest list (pdf) of those attending the Wise County Republican Christmas party.
  • Guy runs over road signs in a Hummer. How absolutely dumb can you be?
  • The Tiger Woods story has appeared on the front cover of the New York Post for 16 straight days, three short of the record set by the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The last time Congress declared war, back in 1941, we had a draft.

guest list for the Republican Party "party" surprises on that list.

Barry, did you leave your wallet at the Christmas Party? - NO, not the Republican one (zzzzzzzz)

.....hope you find it soon.

Is it just me, or is the Messenger really going downhill in their coverage of everything!!!!!!

I agree with the draft thing, I've said it for years. I believe a lot less people would be so gung ho if it was their kids in harms way. And no "fortunate ones" deferments.

I was one of the last drafted for the Vietnam war..........and thank God, lived to write this.

The draft is as political as any other gov't undertaking. Remember the Draft Board is made up of political appointments. Several of my classmates never saw uniform. Do you suppose it was because realtive was on board?

Not in America!

Then as now, those serving are honorable people, but I can tell you there are too many serving because it was the "last resort" to find a job to support their family. That too it a strong reason to roll the dice and re-enlist and serve another tour.

I could be wrong, but when these men and women join the army we as tax payers pay for their salary? This means they work for America. If the Commander & Chief calls for their services, then thats what they should provide. They all know what comes with joining the military. With that being said I support our military 100%. I am glad there are people out there that are willing to sacrifice for the benefits of others. God bless our soldiers!

Barry, having a law office in Decatur has really changed you.

So now the Wise County Courthouse is the "Decatur courthouse"....?

..when did THAT happen?

What the Hell is that a picture of? Barry, please step back analyze the situation then add a different picture! Its to early in the week for that mystery meat.

You saw an attractive girl wearing an Evil Empire logo on her hat (but hideous gloves), and you smiled?
I guess some things trump school loyalty, eh, bubear?

You haven't seen the pothole ad in a while? Oooooohnoooooooo!

You answered your own question. If a mandatory draft were required any time war was declared, the politicians in Congress would simply not declare war. Fighting, killing and destruction would continue, but they wouldn't have to answer for a draft. Never doubt the ability of Congress to get around a law.

I think I just heard AnObiter say, "F*ck you. Like I care what you think, Barry?"

Yeah, now there's an echo stating the same.

Wow-zers, the Wise County Republican Party's party (ha!) looks like it's going to be so much fun. BOR-ING.

The draft is a frightening thing to me having sons of draftable age. It would be the most horrible thing I can imagine for one of them to have to go fight and risk their lives in a stupid and irrelevant war. I pray the draft is NEVER reinstituted, at least till my boys are old and gray.

Sorry about the wallet..that really sucks.

Speaking of sucking, the Messenger has always been annoying with their ad nauseum coverage of accidents and stupid sappy human interest stories which are of NO INTEREST to most of us. But I's worse than ever now. Plan to cancel my subscription when it comes up for renewal. It's a total waste of money.

It IS the Decatur Court House...last time I checked, it's in DECATUR.

Good to see all the filings. Maybe there will be some improvement.

Being Repubican is as close as it gets to guaranteed employement at the county trough.......(also true back in Democratic days) but good to see competition developing.

Per Star Telegram...... Texas has the highest electic rates in the nation. Thanks Phil King. Thanks Republicans. Now from your ranks lets hope some new temporarily honest/independent people get elected.

We the citizens must keep them honest by constantly electing new people, aka term limits.

Right on 9:00 - a party?

Political posturing is much more to the point.

Dang. BG's got his panties all in a wad about Obi's high-tone life.

Why you wanna hate on Obi? Jealousy looks ugly on you, Green.

Oh and I can confirm what 0859 speculates upon, except she also mentioned the word "short" when referring to you. You'll know better what that means than I.

Anonymous said... used to be easier to get out of the Draft, you could just buy your way out, not like having to fake that you're Gay or mentally unsound or have that old "Football Knee" that gives you trouble.

I love the location of the Republican Christmas Party...Behind the Auto Zone on Hwy 380. You can never have enough details!

9:07AM I agree with improvement. Vote for new people!!!

From what I have been told, the Texas Rnagers ballplayers make regular visits to children's hospitals, etc... with no media entourage. This is the way they want it. Classier group all the way around.

9:03 - yes the courthouse is in Decatur, but it IS called the WISE COUNTY COURTHOUSE.

Anonymous said...

Hey 9:49 - think the Republicans will BYOB?

No, but in looking at the guest list, a few will be smashed before they get there.

Your "cute" level for pictures isn't very high, is it? They do have a pulse, I'll say that.

You have problems with the media reporting on pro athletes going to a children's hospital but think their sins should be broadcast because they are in the public eye? Why have it both ways? Either report the good and bad because they are public figures or report none of it.

Hey Bubear...

It's me, your wallet.

I just want you to know I'm taking an indefinite leave of absence from your back pocket.

My cousin is Tiger Woods's wallet. He's having a hard time right now. I'm going to go visit him in...uh...can't tell you where specifically...but I'm going to go help him out for awhile. Seems like he's losing a lot of weight very quickly. He used to be a nice healthy example of a "transportable monetary storage device", but lately, he's looking thinner on a daily basis and can't seem to keep anything in.

Don't try to find me. I'll be back when I get back. Sorry for any inconvenience this will cause you.

And finally, when I get back, I'd like to discuss working conditions with you. Spending my days in your back pocket has affected my well being. My folds are getting cracks and the pressure from you sitting on me is causing your credit card numbers to be permanently imprinted in my cowhide. Other wallets are starting to notice.

I use aftershave balm and then shower it off. I'm not interested in other guys' grooming habits therefore I don't know what they do.

I don't jog at an 8 minutes per mile pace and call it running either. Regardless of the distance. Pick up the pace, fella.

The problem with voting for new people is that they don't understand you are voting for them simply because they are new....they think you want them to do the silly crap they campaigned on...i.e. Obama.

We need to replace the old people in the primaries...not in the general election...otherwise we will end up with idiot Democrats...that may be redundant.
