Greetings From Fayetteville (While I Should Have Stayed Home To See the Bridgeport/Decatur Game)

  • I couldn't resist the temptation of doing something I've wanted to do for a while: See an Arkansas Razorback game in the Fall
  • I think it's beautiful up here in the hills, but it was dark when I drove in so I'll tell you tomorrow.
  • Why do I do this? I have a football stadium fetish.
  • I'm staying in a new Candlewood Inn which is pretty dang nice.
  • On the hotel elevator, one guy was telling another guy that his wife has an elevator/claustrophobia issue. He said that once, in a crowded situation, "we had to wait an hour until the elevator was empty before she would get on it." His buddy and I both looked at him like he was nuts for putting up with that.
  • As I was driving up, I passed the NASCAR race in north Fort Worth, saw all the campers, and said out loud, "You guys are freakin' nuts." Then it dawned on me that that I was driving six hours for a college football game that I have no connection to.
  • The game is on Channel 21 tomorrow at the very odd start time of 11:21 a.m.
  • I love my GPS device. Truly, I typed in the address of my hotel, left Texas, and never looked at a map. When it tells you to turn, you turn.
  • And I leave town and Bridgeport beats Decatur with a TD pass with 42 seconds left? 24-21. Holy cow. (Decatur led 21-0)

GO BULLS!!!...good win...this yrs team cant even be on the same field as last yrs but atleast they got the win

Bridgeport play calling was horrible. It almost blew the game. I wonder if our offensive coordinator trained with Jason Garret>

Bridgeport Wins no thanks to the play selection on this one. Can we please get an offensive scheme before the playoffs. Our defense just keep making big plays and giving our offense another opportunity....and then we got lucky and scored. Great kids...Terrible Decisions and Play Selection on this one nearly cost the better team the win! If we are going to win in the playoffs we better go back to the chalk board!

It was an excellent game. I thought we'd get blown out. Our Eagles surprised me. If we wouldn't have had the five, yes five, fumbles in the second half I think we would have won handily. Congrats Bulls and good luck in the playoffs. Way to go Eagles - super effort tonight. Proud of you guys.

Wise County Sheriff's Report for November 6,2010

Bridgeport coaching staff reported their offensive game plan was stolen just before the Battle of Big Sandy. Coaches were left not knowing when to punt, when to throw or when to run the ball. Due to the superior athleticism of the Bulls, Bridgeport won the game with no coaching!

The play calling was the most blatent misuse of authority I've ever witnessed. The head coach is going to attempt to make his qb son and his receiver nephew the stars of the game at any expense, even a victory. Those countless anemic qb runs when there are 2 or 3 highly talented running backs and numerous dropped passes by the nephew almost cost this team and those other deserving kids a victory against a horrible Decatur team. The coach has no moral compass and no one to report to. That's a dangerous combination.

Eagles, you played a hard-fought game. We're proud of you all!

Bridgeport, nice job, too. Congratulations.

You need to go to Oxford MS next year for an Ole Miss game. Check out some youtube of Ole miss band in the grove....and figure a whole day of great food, big old trees, college kids all spiffed up in khakis and cotton dresses

Ohh Barry fetish what other deep dark secrets do you have - please tell!!!!

The Offensive Cordinator (Mr. Sturdivant) doesnt make the play calls, Lord Henson does it from he sidelines. Or did when I played. Congrats to the Bulls anyways, anyone know who and where the first playoff game?

Holy crap, I just saw this: WAY TO GO CHICO FOR FINALLY SCORING SOME POINTS IN DISTRICT. Maybe yall have some talent coming up next year so yall will win a few games. I hate seeing your team like this! Course everyone in Chico is gonna blame coach Hart, but its split 50/50 between him and the talent-less team you have. Chico needs a bigger turnout of players!

Bridgeport (5-4, 5-0) 24
Decatur (2-6, 2-3) 21

HA HA DECATUR STILL SUCKS!

GO BULLS

NW AR in October is beautiful but the leaves are gone now. We are visiting in AR this weekend but we are now in Mountain View. Enjoy the game.

This reminds me that next year's Battle of the Big Sandy will be on the new turf at Bull Stadium.

I tell everybody I know that last year's Bull's team did well and set all kinds of records in spite of the coaching. Henson is all about self-gain and nothing else.
Good game, Eagles.

I think the Decatur fans should be the one complaining about play calling. When the other team has only 1 timeout left you dont throw the ball two times in a row when you are trying to run out the clock. Story sholud have been fired on the spot for that stupidity. Feel bad for the kids, but not the coach.

Would love to hear - what is it you do at the football stadium that satisfies your fetish?

....just the comments on high school football games crack me up!...

Okay, the person a 12:36 AM totally beat me to going to an Ole Miss game and tailgating in the Grove. You have to go when they're playing LSU or Alabama, though, because that's when everybody gets way into it. The girls wear dresses and the boys wear suit jackets and ties and it's all full of tradition and super great fun.

But, if I'd got the letter from Arkansas telling me I'd been accepted before I got the letter from Ole Miss, I'd be telling you what to do in Fayetteville.

There are some idiots that post about Coach Henson and high school football in general. I would love to see some of their jobs on the line with young men under the age of 18. Of course he makes mistakes but it is a lot easier for you cowards to arm chair quarterback from the bleachers than under the conditions he operates. Get a life and your kid probably isn't playing b/c he isn't any good.

11:14, Henson, as well as any coach, CHOOSES to put his job on the with teenagers. Duh! That IS the job!

11:14, you are a Henson worshipper. EVERYONE IN THE STADIUM was talking about how bad the play calling was. Those 5 straight QB draws were bad. The lack of getting the fast freshman into the running game (vs the slow QB) was bad. The failure to punt late in the game was bad. The arrogance to put in goalline offense (who still don't know how to line up) is bad. The reluctance to run outside is bad. The failure to adjust to the "quad" formation by Decatur was bad.

Are we coaches on here? no, and neither are you. But it doesn't take one to see obvious things... like a coaching staff from Decatur that called a fantastic game and had their boys ready to play... and a coaching staff from Bridgeport that accomplished neither.

We all know they are young unpredictable kids. Some coaches can adjust the game plan to it. Others pour gas on the fire.

For year's me and my friends have talked about doing the yearly stadium tour like you do. I am single they are all married so it never works out, I love your courage, and I will probably be with you next year. You're my leader Barron.

If anyone should complain about play calling, it would have to be the Decatur fans. Henson must be the best "worst" coach in the world. Look at his record. He may be cocky but you can argue with his success. Each year he takes a team with a couple of talented players deep in the playoffs. Short of two injuries to key players, there could have been a state championship last year. Before you say aything about the player that did not come back this year, ask his teammates if they wanted him back.

Anonymous said...

If you read the Messenger article, it is Story who called the poor game. Henson outcoached him, AGAIN.

When are you people going to learn that "poor talent" in the ranks of the kids is a poor excuse. GOOD coaches have consistent winning records regardless of the talent pool because they ARE good coaches. You can't tell me Decatur is OUT of talented kids. That's never happened. It's the COACH who is mediocre and needs to GO!

DISD, if you want your winning teams back, then get a winner of a coach.

Anonymous said...

No matter how you cut it - Coach Henson has a record of success!

The guy is a proven winner.

Criticize all you like but the guy is a success!

Anonymous said...

Success is not a winning record! I will agree with you that Henson has a winning record. When you work with young people you are a SUCCESS when they LOVE YOU, they RESPECT YOU, they have a RELATIONSHIP with you that they CHERISH...long after they graduate High School. Now you don't have to take my word for it, but ask 10 of Henson's former players how they feel about him. That Friend is a Winning record but NOT SUCCESS~
He stays because of his winning record don't ever confuse that with SUCCESS!
Congrats Bulls on your District Title! Your fans and parents are very proud of you...Good Luck in the playoffs...we will be their to cheer you on.
You are an Outstanding Group of Young Men, and we are Proud to be your FANS!

Henson has had a winning record in football. And has done ZERO for track, cross country, volleyball... oh. wait a minute, those are girls sports.

Henson as AD = Fail.

What really matters?

looks to me that we hadnt had a winning season since coach harrison left dhs...

If you ever go back to Fayetteville, you have to eat at Hermans. And Doe's. And you need a slice at Tiny Tim's.

And for God sakes, go to George's after the game.
