What The Heck Is That Thing For?

I don't understand all the utilities around the City of Decatur. The pic above is outside my office which is beginning to look like Beirut circa 1985. We have this Main Street renovation project come through which tore up the curbs and replaced them with nice new ones. And they also installed a couple of fancy light poles (background) although one is perilously close to a low hanging power line. But now a city crew comes in and installs the "High Voltage" box and also installs a short and stubby telephone pole to attach it upon. What the heck is it for? And is there any better place to install it then next to the street in a sidewalk?

I have one outside my office that is thisclose to the pretty light pole that they just installed. It is so close that you can't really see the pretty light pole if you are headed west on Walnut Street. They could have found a better place to put it if they were going to spend that much money, time, and effort to put up the pretty light pole. And the "high voltage" sign doesn't give me much comfort either under the big tree in the yard. I hope there isn't a fire in my future!

Its a traffic cone, Verizon and companies like that use them all the time when they park their vehicles on the street. I've seen a bunch of them in parking lots too.

You probably thought it was candy corn that was exposed to radiation.

It was installed to handle the increased blog traffic in the area.

It was installed to provide elctricity to the light pole in the background. That is a power pole and not a telephone pole.

OK, let's try this.

It's an A**hole detector. Odd they would place it in front of an attorney's office. Gee, imagine that.

That better?

That is a telephone cable obove the new street light in foreground, and I agree Barry, they could have installed it elsewhere to control that section of lights, like down near the 911 office.
