Maybe we should leave the flag at half staff since we lose American soldiers and patriots on a daily basis. Senator Kennedy served our country no more notably than our soldiers, yet reaped the rewards of his office, power and position.

I celebrate his passing, just as I will Bud Kennedy's absence. He's so classy and judgemental...

Anonymous said...

Another left nut, the last name says it all

Anonymous said...

If he was a republican senator that wasn't known nationally, there wouldn't be one word said about flags anywhere.

Read the comments left for kennedy on buds colum...it just goes to prove once again that comming from a family with money can get you places you couldnt get yourself in life and get you out of places you couldnt handle in life...im carrying my had at half "staff" and shaking it!Making laws that benefit illegal aliens in this country what a legacy...he will be "remembered"....and quickly forgotton!

Who would have been the offical to make that call for Wise Co. not to lower the flag at the courthouse?

Was it lowered any where in Decatur?

Anonymous said...

How friggn embarrassing

Anonymous said...

Just goes to show what a lack of manners Wise Co. has, and 12:22 your right it is embarrassing for our county.

Anonymous said...

I applaud those who did not lower the flag. Honoring a thieving, murdering, low-life as a hero is EXACTLY what is wrong with this country. Have Americans become so brainwashed by the extreme lefts' cries of "treat everyone equally" that we must now put such scum in the league of a hero? I DAMN SURE WILL NOT! Nor will I lower the flag when Obama passes. I am AMERICAN and I still have the true definition of a hero in my heart. Heroes I will honor...... scum only gets a "good riddance" utterance from me. Where are the rest of my fellow AMERICANS?

Anonymous said...

12:12 I would assume the County Judge would make that call.

Anonymous said...

I know there are intelligent and compassionate citizens in Wise Co (12:22 & 12:37). However, the goofies outnumber them at least 2 to 1 (as is demonstrated in almost every county election).

I'm thankful I live in a county that does not honor a cancer of the human race such as Teddy Kennedy. I would like to know from his friend Bud just one thing for which he deserved honor. He abandoned even that for which his brothers stood for such as anti-abortion and individual freedom. Bud, I do think it was Teddy's brother, John, that said "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." This quote from his own brother sort of flies in the face of what Teddy, Obama, and most modern day liberals stand for today. Does it not Bud? Just keeping it classy...

Anonymous said...

I'm sure y'all sit around and scratch your heads trying to figure out why the rest of world looks down their noses at Wise County.

I moved away from Wise County back in 2003 and I haven't looked back since. I read this blog and read the Messenger online from time to time and I just shake my head sometimes. If some of you people would step outside the county and look around you'd realize how far behind the times you are. Yeah, I know you don't want "change", but guess what....it's a fact of life. There isn't a damn thing y'all can do about it.....and I love how much it pisses you guys off.

Anonymous said...

I noticed ol' Bud didn't use any of the positive comments from the blog to support his argument. He just took a sample of the negative comments to paint the picture he wanted to paint, which that the folks in Wise and Parker counties are classless, racist and generally, stupid.

Is this a case of slanted journalism??? You decide.

Was the communication of Pres. B.O. clear and direct that all flags should be lowered? No. Was Gov. Rick "Nice Hair" Perry's request clear and direct? No, and in fact, had a different end date that the Pres. had suggested.

In hind-site, which is always 20-20, should the flags have been lowered? Probably, but to steal a line from another regular poster from this blog, on December 21, 2012, will it really matter?

He didn't do anything more heroic than the average American who goes to work each morning and quietly does his job. He wasn't a war hero, a peacemaker, a great statesman or a martyr. His claim to fame was being born into a politically famous family. He was devisive and too far removed from his constituents. I see no reason to honor someone from outside our own state, especially when a majority of Texans did not agree with his ideology. He deserves no more respect than the average citizen.

Anonymous said...

Are you gonna let Bud ride on your coat tails like that?

Kennedy authored 300 bills in the Senate and helped pass approx 1,000 more. If you have a daughter that is playing sports you can thank Kennedy for Title 9. If you had a child in Headstart you can thank Kennedy. If you had a special needs child or a handicapped child you can thank Kennedy for his support and laws . Just to name a few of his accomplishments. I don't know about you 1:08 but I don't know many average citizens that have done what he has done. Let ye who is without sin cast the first stone.

12:58 I hate to inform you that this is one Wise county resident who has traveled outside the U.S. no less than 50 trips. I conduct business worldwide. I have 3 college degrees and was awarded diplomate status in my career field a few years back. And guess what? I count my blessings every time I return home that I live here and that I grew up here. Say what you will, but not all of us are redneck, country bumpkins that people like you and Bud kennedy try to generalize us to be. If we are indeed behind the times as you allege, just call me "Captain Caveman" because Wise county beats the heck out of most places I've visited in my lifetime!

Anonymous said...

Mercy, that pic of Bud Kennedy - can we assume he had a finger in a light socket.

He is such a jerk anyway. Can't find enough junk in Tarrant County to entice his writing skills - has to come to Wise and stir the pot.

And thank you 1:31 - Ted Kennedy did more good than most who post on this board, including me.

Anonymous said...

How can the christian religion with such a long history of opression and persecution simply because they believed differently than others have so much trouble accepting people that believe differently than them???? You cant change people or help people unless you first accept them. Why is that so hard for people to get? Ted Kennedy spent his life working to implement his beliefs to help people, an honorable life.

Anonymous said...

Were flags in Massachusetts flown at half mast the last time a long serving Texas Senator died?

Anonymous said...

1:33, I'm not stating my opinion that Wise County is behind the times. I'm stating FACT. I lived there for 25 years. I know how business is done in Wise County. I know how Wise Countians think. I'm aware that it's not really proper to generalize, but judging from the venom that is spewed in the comments on this here blog, I feel it's acceptable to generalize here. I know that there are some smarter, more progressive thinkers in the county....kudos to them.....but they are way, way, way, way, way outnumbered by the old-fashioned, stuck-in-their ways, close-minded individuals.

Anways.....in response to you liking wise county, that's fine....just stay there, but the world is changing around you. Wise County will change too. I've been out there and seen the new homes being built. Like it or not, change will come.

2:07 Yes he did his job and did it well Thank you very much! That is much more than I can say about many of the others in the Senate.

I realize, watching sports does not have the same allure and entertainment value as watching people hiss and spit about a dead politician however, you should, seriously, consider taking up a hobby other than rabblerousing, if for no other reason than, to dispel the appearance of you being little more than a mean spirited, vacuous git.

*******************************
As for the people still fuming about Ted Kennedy; those of you who are happy, Ted is dead, need to dance a jig and embrace your glee but realize schadenfreude wields an indiscriminate sword and offers cold comfort for your own woes, those of you who are saddened, Ted is dead, might consider doing something CONSTRUCTIVE in the name of Ted Kennedy because you are NEVER going to change the minds of happy people.

It is curious that we want to hold Ted to a "one strike" rule even when we don't really know what happened on the bridge.....we guess, we think we know.....and we claim to be real Americans even tho in doing so, we violate the basic innocent till proven guilty rule.

Ted's politics are not mine by any stretch of the imagination, but it is awesome that he authored 300 bills and co authored 1000 in a Senate body that requires 60 votes to pass a bill. Wish our two Texas senators combined could match that record.

Our two couldn't join our former President and former senator in attending the funeral.........mostly because they fear the "haters" in the upcoming Republican primary.

It is also a fact Ted saw two of his brothers gunned down by the "haters." Most men would have withdrawn from public life in fear of it happening a third time.

His mastery of getting bills thru and his uniqueness of being the 3rd Kennedy qualify him for respect.

Anonymous said...

There's some pretty cool comments on this one, but:

1) Barry, you promised a few days ago to have posted the last Ted kennedy post. You lied. You must be a democrat.

2) I'm glad I spent the entire day at the race track riding a motorcycle at breakneck speeds. Sort of tempers the stupidity found here courtesy of folks who don't have a hobby.

3) For the record--- "F" Ted (and every other) Kennedy

Anonymous said...

As a person, father, husband, coworker and colleague, I sympathize with his family and close friends. I would never say I'm glad he's dead. I have lost loved ones, and it is not something I wish people had to go through. As a senator, politician, and a representative of the United States I will say he never should have lasted that long. He was a horrible senator, he accomplished some things, but my God he should have after 47 years. He done more harm than good. If he was a senator by any other name than Kennedy or from any other stae than Mass. he never would've lasted anywhere close to 47 years. As for the flag being lowered to half-staff, why all the controversy, I don't hear you people asking for it to be lowered for our men and women of the service, they are from every state, and every party affilliation, and protect this country. Let Mass. and DC lower their flags and let that be the end of it. If he was a modest conservative would there be so much excitement over lowering the flag?

I am ashamed of County Judge McElheney for not lowering the flags and again for not being respectful enouph to ALL citizens, including the Democrats (ie: Voters)to answer for his decision. I don't think this is a Communist county, but it is obvious that is is run by the Nazi's. You guys are all making fools of us. I hope Bud Kennedy understands that only a few have these kinds of opinions in Wise County. Maybe Barry could start posting the URL's of the posters comments so that under some of these jokers so that outsiders will be aware that their are only a few vial citizens in Wise County. The WORLD WIDE WEB might even find that these troublemakers aren't even voters or even MEAN and UGLY UNEDUCATED TEENAGERS!

I do have to wonder if County Judge McElheney would find it appropriate and necessary to lower the flag for other National or State elected officials or will it be the protocal in the future that Wise County will never lower it's flags for any reason...

That'll teach that nasty, communist, socialist loving government a thing or two about a thing or two.

wordkyle said...

1248 - Why personalize this? What doesn't affect me now may well affect me in the future. You brought up examples of several services (government as servant) yourself: public highways, food inspection, fire departments.

Government as master? Laws allowing minor girls to get abortions without parental notice; Mandatory participation in the low-performing Social Security ponzi scheme (after Congress plundered the Social Security Trust Fund into the General Fund, where they can spend it easier;) Obama's blackmailing Chrysler bondholders into receiving next to nothing during the "bailout" while giving the Democrat-supporting UAW 55% of Chrysler stock; a Democrat Congress quickly passing "urgently needed" spending legislation that saddles future generations with record debt without reading the bill, without understanding it, and loading it with pork as payback to political allies.

Those are a few of my least-favorite things.

"Laws allowing minor girls to get abortions without parental notice"

As oppossed to the Master telling women what they can and can't do with there own Person? Are you a man who likes women Barefoot and Pregnant and who only allows his wife out of the kitchen when your passed out on the couch with a cold one in your hand. Seriously, I'm just asking.

"Mandatory participation in the low-performing Social Security ponzi scheme (after Congress plundered the Social Security Trust Fund into the General Fund, where they can spend it easier;)"

That was "W's(R)" brilliant mind at work to "Save" Social Security and privatize it. Remember? Just like the loosing team to re-write history to favor them. "Let's muddy the waters with TMI, One things for sure, those stupid Redneck OBAMA hating Wise County folks will believe anything!" Besides, I don't think that has ever happened either. Can any of you retired persons on SS tell me you've stopped receiving benefits every month and why to verify Mr. Byle's (it's Mr. Byle because he took me using his first name so personally of course)claims?

"Obama's blackmailing Chrysler bondholders into receiving next to nothing during the "bailout" while giving the Democrat-supporting UAW 55% of Chrysler stock"

Source Please... Part of that 55% number is the 30% of Government owned portion that is given to every American Citizen. It was a play in numbers to suit the Republican agenda. Really, get your facts right & please stop trying to control Wise County Voters because you can't in your own county ;)~.

"a Democrat Congress quickly passing "urgently needed" spending legislation that saddles future generations with record debt without reading the bill, without understanding it, and loading it with pork as payback to political allies..."

...and why? too many years of failed Republican policy allowing the rich to get richer with outrageous tax credits that leave the burden of Tax dollars per capita on the working class Americans. Tax incentives that only resulted in lower wages and Job loss while multi-million dollar bonues still were given to the already filthy rich CEO's. In the Republican Far out Space Nut World, I guess they think water runs uphill. A far cry from the Strong platform that rely's on the trickle down effect.

Come on, quit with the broken record, get some fresh material that will float the boat.

wordkyle said...

558 - When you reflexively toss out the "women and their bodies" mantra after I mention "minor girls" I can see that you are, indeed, a thoughtful person.

As for the rest: 1) Congress plundered SS in 1965 (a history buff, are you?); 2) Details of Obama's gift of Chrysler to his union supporters here with additional info here and here; 3) I can't tell if you're kidding or really missed the point. I'll err on the side of caution, since your other answers were not quite thought out: Demonstrate how Democrats earmarking billions of "stimulus" dollars for political payback to supporters corrects Republican actions. (P.S. Bush's tax rate cuts resulted in the top earners paying more in taxes.)

This is all moot, anyway. You asked for examples where the government has taken the role of master, and I provided them. If my answers frighten you then you should cease asking scary questions.
