Listen Up, Class

"Next week, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, President Obama will be broadcasting an address directly to students in the nation’s public schools. The text of Obama’s school speech has not been made available to parents at this point, although lists of classroom activities for elementary school students and older students are available at the Department of Education website. "President Obama does not plan to broadcast on major network channels, but the speech can be viewed live online at the Whitehouse website. Broadcast begins at 12:00 noon Eastern time." This will be interesting. The county didn't want to lower the flag for Kennedy, will the local school districts allow our President to talk to our kids? Anyone heard anything? Edit: Good grief. Republicans are already going crazy: [The] Republican Party of Florida . . . released a statement "condemning President Obama's use of taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America’s children to his socialist agenda."

"As the father of four children, I am absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's socialist ideology," said Jim Greer, party chairman, in a news release.

What is he going to tell them? To wash their hands?

I've not heard anything, but I can guarantee you this one thing: If I had a kid in school, he/she would stay the heck home. Our kids are being propogandized (hope that's a word) without that idiot coming before them too. Reminds me too much of Hitler's Nazi stuff. We're headed that way so very quickly; people better wake the heck up!!!!!

To pray 5 times a day while beating their face on the floor?

If Paradise ISD participates, I know three kids that won't be there!

I hope parents that keep their kids home get hit with truancy fines.

"Wash your hands, tell your parents to buy a new car, buy a house you can't afford and you want really cool health insurance.if you don't forward my words to them then you don't want to succeed."

What about the kids in private schools? Their parents pay taxes also.

Ok Class, everyone get out your Muslin rugs and have a seat on the floor while Mr Hussein talks about stuff or somethin.

The schools better warn the parents before they let OUR kids watch this. If they tell me....DIS will be minus 1 kid that day!!!!!

12:36: I'll gladly pay any truancy nazi fines! My kids are not going to be targets of this fool's crap if I can help it. This man is the most brazen, full of himself person I believe I've ever known! He can run the auto companies, the banks, the insurance companies and now the schools and our kids. Louis Farakan told us they were coming for our kids -- it's here folks, it's here. Hitler woudl be so proud!

No but I bet my County Commissioner wants to fly the Rebel Flag again at the court house then. And have all the TV stations tuned into Hee Haw.

my kids will be at home that day, not listening to rush, hannity, beck or obama. i will be teaching them to be free thinkers and make up their own minds not drinking the neocon koolaid and certainly not listening to the man that is the biggest threat to the demise of this nation in 50 years.

Obama=brainwashed, racist community organizer with a silver tongue and no morals

Anonymous said...

This has no place in our public schools. I would be very upset if I had kids in school and would not keep them home, but forewarn them not to believe everything they hear. Parents should watch the speech on the internet and be prepared to refute it with truth.

Anonymous said...

So people will deprive their kids a days education because they're scared the President will brain wash them, this whole country is full of idiots. What happens when they cover him in history or government classes?

Suzanne said...

Yikes. Maybe he is going to talk to them about our country and being good citizens. You would keep your kids home from that?

Anonymous said...

He is going to talk about the flu. He is not just going to pop in the public school system without informing the public what he will be discussing. Geez...I can only imagine the idiotic, racist, and cruel comments that are going to be made on this post. Because there are so many selfish right-wing meanies and racists that post on this blog, it would be a good idea to put a Warning label at the top of your blog that states: "WARNING: Reading this blog may lead to Depression, worsening of Depression, nightmares, fear of the people around you, fear of people in general, other phobias, general sadness, the "blues", & other mental conditions."

Anonymous said...

Does anyone remember what Bush was doing almost 8 years ago to the day of this propaganda presentation (9-11 to be exact). He was sitting in a school reading to students.

Anonymous said...

Amazing the responses to this issue. Are you going to keep the kids home so you can make sure that the great redneck racist beliefs you have shared with your children are not altered? Get a life! I bet if it was a white president, you would have no problem.

Anonymous said...

Good idea folks. Lock your kids in your house and pretend he doesn't exist. That's a much better idea than discussing his speech with them after they get home.
I'm curious how many schools can support that much video download simultaneously to every classroom in the district. I estimate between none and 0.

Anonymous said...

Yeah kids, go ahead and stay home so that your idiot, redneck parents can teach you be "free thinkers". Just don't think about anything they don't agree with or you will be in trouble!! (NASCAR and Toby Keith are ok) If you really wanted them to be "free thinkers" you would encourage them to watch this broadcast and form their own opinions. You don't want your kids to watch this because they might be "brainwashed", yet you are doing exactly that by sheltering them and implanting your own stupid ideas in their heads. Hypocrites much?

More than 51% of all Texans are morons. The majority of the comments to this topic more than prove that statement to be true.

I call these "morons" Social Republicans. They are not the real Republicans of the world, the Economic variety, those that can actually afford to be Republicans. Social Republicans are "wanna be's"; they believe the State of Texas can and should secede from the union, that Obama is out of line because he is trying to come up with a workable health care plan, (one that helps people}. They have no appreciation for a good man like Ted Kennedy, they think Perry and Palin deserve serious consideration as elected officials, they love Jesus (and only Christians see religious issues correctly, by the way), they hate queers, they believe they are the only "true" patriots in our country, and they believe that Bush #43 was an excellent President.

That finally brings me to the dumb butt that wrote the 12:20 pm message: You don't even know what Nazism is, what it stands for, what it actually did to this world as it flourished, you moron. What you intended to say is that Obama is a socialist, a communist. However, you are, more likely than not, a Nazi. You are very dangerous, because you aren't smart enough to know that some people actually have read and understand history, know something about government, civics. You simply hear what other people are saying, it sounds good to you, and you regurgitate your puke (so-called political ideas) to whoever is stupid enough to listen to it.

I feel better now. Have a good day.

Anonymous said...

I think that President Obama may be intentionally doing things like this just to get the right-wingers riled up to show everyone else how desperate and full of hate they are. And I like it. Keep at it, Mr. President.

I have nothing against the man because of his race or his religion. My issue is the fact that he's trying to sneak his hidden agenda in by smooth talk and glib comments, which the uninformed masses (including children) fall for hook, line, and sinker. That is what I find very scary for our future.

Reason for the announcement: to rile up all the parents who oppose and point them out as being unpatriotic.

If I were a parent, I would read the transcript of the President's speech to all the public schools in order to have a talk with my kids Tuesday night after school. Parents have more influence on their children than a president talking for a few minutes.

It can open the door to why parents don't or do agree with his policies like government run health care, the economy or community service projects (Organizing for America).

If parents don't want their children to participate, that is their choice. Just like those who don't want their kids to pray or say the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

Public schools are not going to have a choice on organizing students to further a far left agenda or lose federal tax dollars. Perhaps this is the first step in recruiting volunteers since Obama is a gifted speaker. Parents can control whether their children participate.

It is not time to retreat but be engaged in the control of our children's minds. I would also visit the school and monitor the event.

Fortunately, they have NOT changed several things that really matter. We were MUCH better off, even in the polls if you watch them, at this point in the Bush Presidency. It really scares the fool out of me to wonder what would happen if a tragedy ocurred with Obama in office like Pres. Bush had to deal with on 9-11. What is that old saying, "the best form of flattery is imitation." I'm with you guy!! And, yes, Bush was talking about what was important to the students, not what was on his agenda. Thanks for clarifying.

How the hell can all you right-wing yahoos be so friggin' angry about how you screwed up so much with your own philosophy, actions, and agendas that a black man could actually be elected as President of the United States of America.

I am going to go out on a limb and declare that 90% of the negative, hateful comments on this post are from people who are racist and that their real reason for being so angry is that a black man is running the show.

BTW, I would put my name on this post but I feel so threatened by the anger and hatred vomited forth by the commenters that I feel Icould be in physical danger from these people.

Maybe we'll get lucky and Obama will give an "America is great; work hard, eat your spinach and you can be all you want to be" speech. But then again, why should he start now? An advance release of his planned remarks before he presents them to the children would be appropriate, and might mitigate some of the concern.

I enjoy all the yabbut remarks, such as "yeah, but Bush was reading to students on 9/11!" and "yeah, but Bush's approval was low when he left office!" Always with exclamation marks implied. At the deepest, hidden levels of their minds, they recognize that Obama can't stand on his own.

It's not like it's a secret what he is talking about:

He will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of education. The President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens.

OOOOOOH. Education. Scarey! Keep your kids home indeed. How ironic.

Phillip J Hubbell said...

I think children should listen to the message from Obama and parents should use it as a teaching moment (since they probably wouldn't learn anything at school anyway.) I got an opportunity to listen to Ronald Reagan once upon a time before his was President. Also Sargent Striver and Eunice Kennedy Striver. Anybody on the national stage that your kid gets to see or hear is a good thing. I am one of those dreaded social Republicans and an economic Republican. Personally I think the President is a giant dildo. But he has been elected by the plurality of people who think that either the government owes them a living or that people are too dumb to run their own lives. Send your kid to school. Have them listen to what the clown says. Talk to them about it when they come home. Point out that it is this guy who is robbing their kids of income and wealth that hasn't been created yet. Make it a memorable moment..a never again moment.

Healthcare needs to be reformed no doubt, but his half*ss planning and approach on it are immature and laughable. He's the fear monger, every thing has to be done now, right now! Ram it through and ask questions later! He said the word catastrophy like 50+ times in one of his speeches.Crazy! He's no longer running for election and he needs to start acting more like a President and not a celebrity. Calling us arrogant to the French, how ironic..I could go on and on. If you honestly believe that our president is a good person you are out of your mind. How many people did he appoint to positions that couldn't take them because they were tax cheats? If you need any more proof that the guy is an absolute moron just look at the poeple he puts in charge of things. I pray to God he stays healthy because if Joe Biden becomes our president the only people that will be happy are the late night talk shows and SNL. For the love of God the man gave a LIFE TIME APPOINTMENT on the Supreme Court to a judge that openly said, "The courts are where policy is made." Not to mention the fact that of all cases she ruled on, more than 60% of them were overturned.
Liberals all want to preach to you about being fair and nice to everybody when you are the ones on here stereotyping people as dumb, backwood, rednecks because they are actually smart enough to think for themselves and aren't naive enough to think that everybody can "just get along".
And to the one guy that knows everything about history back before there was any; Hitler came to power by means of a democracy. He told the German Parliament what he wanted to do and they, along with the German people, gave him the power to do so because they, much like the liberals in America today, were so in the tank for the guy that they really believed that giving up their freedoms would be a good thing.
Well guess what, there are still people in this country that believe in what our founding fathers signed their names on over 200 years ago. I am one of those that you like to call "dumb redneck". Well go ahead and do that, because by calling names rather than trying to prove what I have said wrong, you are showing that I am right and that you are nothing more than an item on a shelf that the Democratic party can by with nothing but some smooth talk and happy ideas.
Remember, "Those that would sacrifice their liberty for temporary security deserve neither." You are "those", Leftist America, and I pray every night that you don't ever have the Eutopian World that you want because if that is ever the case, there won't be an America will be no more.

It's the first time he's told anybody they have to work hard and take responsibility since he's been in office. (Of course, we'll all be watching to see if he sticks to this message. wordkyle said...

RPM - The economy was starting to downslide just as Bush took office in 2001. From Wikipedia (the all-knowing): "According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), which is the private, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization charged with determining economic recessions, the U.S. economy was in recession from March 2001 to November 2001, a period of eight months at the beginning of President George W. Bush's term of office." And yes, I know it doesn't fit the standard definiton of a recession, but economic indicators had already started to decline before any of Bush's policies had a chance to take effect. Then there was that unpleasantness in the ninth month of his Presidency.

As for conditions when Obama took office, please remember that the Democrats controlled Congress for the two years prior. Let's not leave them out of the picture. (Much as we could "blame" the Republican Congress for much of the prosperity of the 90's, right?)

None of this is a defense of the Bush administration's spending. But don't paint a rosier economic scenario than really existed in 2001, when Bush took office.

He has no business inserting himself into the American classroom. His ideas are not for our kids to decipher. I know my kid needs an education, that's why they are at school. This is why we have teachers. To instill in them the importance of education. He should've just bought a 30 second ad on Nickolodeon and said "study hard, do your homework, and get a good education", much like his "be a good dad" spot.

And, they will be instructed that afterward, they should write down what they can do to "help the President."

Okay, it's pretty well known here that I'm not an Obama fan. But if he sticks to the message that has been reported that he'll say, it's no big deal. "Education is important, stay in school, work hard." These are good Conservative principles, regardless of who says them. I'm not saying he doesn't have a political agenda by doing so -- spouting Conservative principles won him the Presidency, after all (a Democrat promising to cut taxes???) -- but the message itself is still good.

If, on the other hand, he whips out a variation on "I pledge to be a servant to Barack Obama," then he will have confirmed and validated all of the concerns on the right. Get ready for the spin cycle.

As an educator, I find it interesting that so many of you are so fearful of this opportunity. This is a perfect opportunity for you, and for us, to teach our children how to objectively listen and discuss. It's ok to agree to disagree. What a teachable moment. This is a prime opportunity to discuss current issues with our students and have civilized discussion. The parents should take advantage of this opportunity and help your child to fit into the world of educated people instead of teaching them to be ignorant outsiders with no clue about the world of which they are part. As an educator, I will definitely use this as an opportunity to teach this concept. I am from Wise County and proud of it.
