OK, the numbers may very well hold up. But still seems a little close to say it has "apparently failed."

Man, I hope that number is wrong. Those kids needed that. Good news for Alvord though! Kevin and John were elected by a land slide! Let the accountability begin! "moving forward"!
Yea, the kids need 36 million... otherwise Bridgeport is doomed to fall behind Decatur!
Why can't they make do with their current budget?
Please, someone tell me why...
364 taxpayers/property owners came out to save themselve thousands of dollars... I guarantee you if parent alone had to pay for it there would be 3000 votes against it.
The bond issue is about 20% what the kids NEED, and the rest is what the administration building WANTS. If they stuck to new classrooms it'd be one thing--it's all the extras we don't want and can't afford.
They should let parents and teachers decide what is needed instead of a few suits who don't care what the community can support.
The vote will hold up because the only votes not counted would be any provisional ballots, if any. In the general elections, only a few of the ballots are counted.
Tax payers have spoken NO to higher taxes. The Bridgeport ISD will have to go back to the drawing board to come up with what is needed, not just wanted.
Finally a community with common sense. No organized opposition yet the citizens stood up to a administration feathering its own nest.......following the latest fad.
Before Bridgeport goes too far they need to look into the relationship with Apple and school administrators. There is something fishy there.
An indoor practice facility might be defended if two things are in place.........all academic needs/wants are satisfied and the district has so much spare money that no bond was necessary.
Wise Co school districts have ridden the wave of increased oil and property revenues and not reduced their tax rates according. Shame on them.
If there were ever a need for a "tea party" it should be on the lawn of the school administration building.
Another voting result: Runaway Bay voters soundly rejected Mayor Jowitt's cronies. Candidates St. John, Ticer and Rhea won by a large margin. This was a solid vote for more open and competent representation in RAB. Another opportunity for real "change."
This is Bridgeport, not the Hamptons! An indoor practice facility is unrealistic for a small North Texas Town, who has been and will be continue to struggle during the economic times. Has no one noticed all of the job losses and the companies shutting their doors and moving elsewhere?
in a day and age where newspapers are shutting down almost on a weekly basis, how does the WCM continue to survive with the editor it now has? where in the hell are all the results? no chico? no runaway bay? not anything else but the few you posted on your web site? i just dont get the management over there, and i now question the "new" ownership that lets this continue. our county paper wont survive at this rate
Alvord has something to be proud about, this is true....But let's not forget this election was NOT about 1 man, or 1 family, or getting even....IT'S ABOUT ACCOUNTABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!
Not the real work begins, and we will have to put our money where or mouth is.
A new board mean doing things the proper way, and the legal way. Let's focus on the tomorrows and not the yesterdays!!!
Congratulations Kevin & John. Now let's get to work.
Easy 8:02, Mayor Jowitt has promoted a fair administration. Let's do what's right. Last I heard the winnning canidates complianed about RAB residents having to obey laws. God forbid. You mean if "I run a stop sign in RAB I will get a ticket if I live there. If I drive DWI I will go to jail. I have to obey the law like everyone else?" I cant build whatever I want, however I want?" Get real! If you live RAB you are not better than anyone else. You are a citizen of the United States and the State of Texas and must obide by those laws. The good ole days are gone. People who work in the oilfield are hard working people who make money. Get over yourself you elite minded idiot. Our town is no better than the rest of the world. People like you are tryong to keep RAB this little community which is not in touch with reality. I think Mayor Jowitt has promoted a fair for one and all city.
But support an athletic department at a small 3A school with an indoor practice facility?....NO WAY!!! The Dallas Cowboys, some major colleges, a few wealthy 5A programs....sure but not here, not now, not in the middle of the worst economic times we've ever seen.
Thank you voters for putting this down.
And for those disappointed....thank your administration and Athletic Director for trying to sneak a squeeling, stinky pig into church....not going to happen!!!
Bridgeport just "boasted" a six thousand plus population that is almost equal to Decatur. Only 729 people from the Skoal (we know it is SCHOOL) district and city showed up to vote. For the next year we will have to read and listen to all the "bitching" from the people that never showed to vote, go back to bed.... Thanks Barry.
Several probable reasons the bond election failed. Indoor practice Facility; Everyone just received their tax statements; finally people woke up to the fact that the madness has to stop. It's not saying no to education. It's saying no to stupid pork filled projects that has nothing to do with education. Give us a bond that truly benefits ALL students and get the egos out of the way and it will pass. The Silent Common people have spoken!!
I hope Bport folks continue to stand by their guns in this ridiculous deal. However, you better keep watch. Seems people in Decatur have forgotten to keep watch on our AD and Admin. Little did the town hear that a TRACK was built at the new high school. Yes, we had agreed to have a football practice field there, but lo and behold, a brand new TRACK showed up there now too!! AND.... "presto" .....lighting to light the field and track is now in place. I do not recall any kind of VOTE to implement those things. Do any other Decatur residents recall voting on those?
Bottom line is this: If the town votes it down, then the "sneaky snakes" will find a way to use tax money (possibly increase budgets each year?) to get what they want.
I say it is long overdue for K Story to be out of Decatur. WE ARE SMALL TOWN.....and we cannot afford these ridiculous UNNEEDED facilities. Shame on the Decatur school board for allowing these "sneaky" implementations!!!
Before you people get into boasting about how the indoor practice facility was ignorant. Please know that was only $850,000 of the bond package not alot.
Most of the money was going to necessary improvements but I still voted against it. The main reason is that they didn't do a good job of presenting the improvements or lay out any alternative ideas.
I think the long range planning is terrible and if its not then they need to make the ideas public. It seems like we are always operating from behind instead of actually planning for the future.
We need an indoor practice facility to be competitive? Go figure. Perhaps the one school in the county with the poorest facilities of all has two state championships on its belt.
Could it be that Cartwright and Boyd have figured out it takes kids and coaches to be competitive and little more.
This was about braggin rights between Story and Henson.
All those in Favor let it be known by the usual voting sign...All opposed same sign...so ordered Brother Secretary...Roberts Rules of order...Bitches!! Everyone has a vote..majority rules...
"Before you people get into boasting about how the indoor practice facility was ignorant. Please know that was only $850,000 of the bond package not alot."
Only $850,000... ONLY! I disagree, that's still a lot of money to anyone unless they're very rich.
What is the cost to heat & cool it building?
What's the cost for general maintenence?
What's the cost to keep it clean?
Would it be insured? If so, what's the cost for insurance?
6:31 I think you need to go back and check your numbers. No way they would be able to build that facility for $850M. It is more like $5-6 million. Better check it out. Much less the recurring maintainence expense of keeping it up.
5:04 The last laugh will be on him. He better start looking for a new job. I heard Mc Donalds in hiring. OK new school board, time for a clean sweep. You can start with Lynn and Larry, then move to the field house, then the elementary. Let's see how many tuck butt and run. You can run but you cannot hide from the truth.
Attention BISD Board members,a majority of the voters in RAB voted FOR the bond issue. Please note, we have very few students from the city. We do however think the vast majority of spending was earmarked for worthy projects that would have benefited all the students of the district. B'port voters got it wrong again...(remember the Home Rule mistake???)
Alvord is doomed due to stupid people that dont know a damn thing about anything..... what a bad deal all way around. sad for all the kids. and so sad for all the dumb ass people that vote for the wrong people for the wrong reasons.
Hey 9:19.....The stupid people were defeated!!!! The community has spoken and they are saying "WE WANT ACCOUNTABILITY & WE WANT A CHANGE". Now crawl back under the rock that you came from.
As far as a contract is concerned....well Trice proved contracts don't mean a thing!!!!! What goes around comes around!!!!
Beer drinkers of the Bay won. Hope everyone is happy in the future with your WP's, peter pullin club being on the CC. Maybe they will get tired of his crap when the real info is layed down for them to see, not just a small portion as he promotes.
10:21 What do you mean thank goodness. Now Story has his voting block on the board (Alling, Haney, White & Lowery). He'll get whatever he wants. Stadium, turf, indoor facility etc. Hold on to your wallets DISD taxpayers. Lowery & Story are next door neighbors.
Tax statements came out and property, despite the down turn in the economy, still went up. Well, it went up on lower valued property but looking at the county values, property in East Bay Estates just isn't worth more than it was years ago! And if a bond issue comes along and your values aren't going up, why not vote for a bond issue. However, if you are working in the oil field and just got laid off, you are not going to vote to increase your property taxes!
At the local or national level, spending money seems to be about having power. It looks like the taxpayer has been pushed too far and is saying NO!
With all the oil, gas and revenue from the power plant, BISD should be able to pay cash for needed improvements. A covered practice area wasn't listed on any of the improvements in the paper.
The same people run everything in Bridgeport now and from a generation back! The boom is over and the bust is coming so it will be an awakening and struggle just to keep up what they already have spent.
anon 4:50...you're stupid! of course there was a track put it at the new decatur high school, and there needed to be one. why would we bus kids to track practice at the middle school every day? imagine that cost in the long run...not too mention time. i hate dumb people
I will repeat myself on the cost of the indoor practice facility. It was budgeted for less than 1 million dollars. Approximately $850,000. Do your research before you spout off, those numbers can be backed up.
I did vote against the bond so I have no reason to argue the price. Matter of fact I would have a better arguement if the cost were greater. Another thing that people aren't willing to consider is that a turf football field is economically sound. The cost is offset by the maintanence. Doesn't mean you justify the expense but it is not just a stupid idea.
8:37 You spell like you are from Park Springs. "equle"??? Fact is, Marion or the Grand Poop-pa, or whatever your followers are calling you now, you just can't stand it because the new school board will bring about changes that may take you and yours down a notch. They may also expose this town and it's ex-leaders for who and what they are and that would be, power hungry, idiots that don't have a care in the world what is best for these kids. You just want to be able to control the town so that your kids and grandkids get to play football, deserving or not. The people have spoken. You lost. "You should throw tantrums," although that would be parr for the course. If you no longer like the town because you can't get the freebies you are used to, move to Park Springs. They'll take your money.
It has finally happen the inmates have taken control of the asylum. the days of self accountability are gone it will be a free for all in Alvord now.RUN FOR THE HILLS AND TAKE YOUR KIDS
OK 3:26 - without pointing out your 6 spelling errors that betray your literary excellence, please be informed that the "fair administration" of mayor Jowitt has violated your trust in many ways that do not need enumeration in this forum. Hopefully the new Council will bring a refreshing openness and competence to our RAB City government.
Hey Alvord!! Congrats!! I believe that we elected the right men for the job up there. Not because of Chaney/Trice/Curtis ordeal but because the two people elected were the more intelligent, more fair and more honest of the the candidates. Everyone knows that McCoy is a Chaney man. He would have been bias from his first day and everyone also knows that Crafton has served her time and she was just trying to stay so that she could be a "yes woman" for Lynn and Larry. A school board is elected to make educated decisions that will best benefit the children of the district. Stacey is a very nice lady but she has no children in the system. (nor do Lynn, Larry or Kerry)Although I know that this is not a make or break when it comes to the district I believe that it could possibly play a role in some way. Without a child or even grandchild in the school district they are not directly effected by any decisions that they make. They are only working off of their own wants and needs which is not fair to our children! The Alvord citizens made the right choice!! Great job!
4:50 pm -- Those "sneaky snakes" you talk about, only exist in the minds of the ignorant. The track was a part of the Decatur DISD 2003 Bond, along with the practice fields. The lights have been added to help the teams, the band, and anyone else who needed to use the fields, do so after dark. Portable lights were used until the district could budget for the permanent lights. The board was so "sneaky" it took them three years to put the lights in place. You should attend monthly school board meetings, everything is done above board in public sessions, nothing sneaky about it. But wait, that would mean that you might become "informed" and know what you were talking about.
Don't know where you get your numbers. Turf takes 10-12 years to pay for itself and will need to be replaced "before" then. There is no way it is cost effective.
No indoor practice field could be built for less than 1M.
Turf/indoor practice field proponents would acrue more respect if they would cut the spin and just say, we want it because we want it.
Both items are attributes of wealthy school districts whose tax base could pay for them at little cost to the taxpayer. (Example: Northwest last bond for 100+ M wasn't going to raise taxes even 1 cent.)
Decatur and Bridgeport aren't there yet as much as the coach wannabes think they are. In time.
Chaney's contract is a joke! He will soon be gone! The tables have turned Coach Chaney. I think that you should dust off your resume! You are going to need it.
It seems to me that a candidate who has no children in the system is a sign of genuine concern, not a sports crazed parent that thinks their son is the next Tony Romo, with a personal agenda.
9:25 "a turf field is economically sound". Think again. We've been told in Decatur a new turf field will cost $1.1 million. A grass field cost $50,000 a year to maintain. That new turf field costs 20 years worth of maintenance on a grass field. Plus, the turf field costs $20,000 a year to maintain and has to be replaced every 6-10 years depending on usage. So, we're talking 25 to 30 years to actually pay for itself. That's a sound investment.
I believe that my post could have read differently then I wanted it to. I think that it is just fine to have some people on the school board that do not have children in the system but I do not think that it be the majority of the board. Before Saturday it was 4 without children and 3 with. 4 people on that board that are not directly effected by the decisions that are made besides of the taxes that they pay. Also, do you know these people? My guess is "no." I believe that Kerry Clower does care and probably does not have any "agenda" and quite possibly even Stacey Crafton but Lynn Garrett and Larry Wilson have no reason to sit on that board other then for a powertrip and a way to try to control things. If you know either of them you would know that they are control freaks! They do have their own agenda and it happens to line up with the Neighbors/Yale group which is pretty much controlled by the FBC.
Also, as far as Chaney goes, I don't know why anyone wants to keep him here. Has he ever given us a reason to believe in his program? The football team has been in the playoffs once since he came and that was the first year he was here and he was still working with Blecher's program.... HMMMM.... can't you get fired for just being a crappy coach??
And as a tax payer in B'Port, I think we deserved a few more specifics about what would be built with the money. (more than just a range of how many classrooms we MIGHT get). No doubt, BHS was too small when it was built! But we had to work within our means. And PLEASE don't believe the BS that groups other than football wOuld have been allowed to use the indoor! HaHaHaHaHa Are you kidding? Do you really think in B'Port there is a group deemed "good enough" to use an indoor (other than football)? GLAD IT WAS DEFEATED! Be smart! Go for what the kiddos need for EDUCATION! Means a whole lot more when your football team can win and have nothing than to have high dollar facilities and lose! Hard work makes winners--doesn't matter where you practice!
All those elitist parents of the athletes in B'Port---you can pay! Leave the rest of us alone!
10:36 No self accoutability? Isn't that why were were in trouble in the first place. We allowed one man to rule and control everything, with NO accountability. When he figured out the gig was up, he turned tail and ran to get a job with the old board president selling used cars. But...he left behind a pack of idiots that think they can still get away with getting paid while remodeling their kitchen or getting a coaching bonus, when they don't coach. Accoutability starts now. No more hiding behind the lies of the evil empire. 11:20 - to summarize the disagreements...It's good people that want to see people stand accoutable for what they have done and haven't done vs people that have no clue what is really going on behind closed doors. No more electioneering, getting paid for what you do not do, playing favorites, It's all over. You're done.
Why do all the small towns in west Texas and in the panhandle have turf? Surely they are operating on a smaller budget than Bridgeport or Decatur.
Also why does football need the practice facility when the majority of their work is done when the weather is fine. Other than spring workouts they don't have much use for it.
I think the biggest use would be for the PE to limit the wear and tear on the gym. Which is one of the highest costs associated with a school.
And yes they are built for under 1 million. Just look at the facility in Prosper.
Can someone please tell me what are the actual problems in the Alvord school system that are being posted? I grew up in Alvord and am considering relocating back there one day. It really concerns me to hear the things being said about the school and people that I have know for a lifetime. I would just like someone to honestly tell me what is going on.
Hey 5:48, I would like the same thing but I think it is being made painfully obvious that we won't find our answers here. I would like to get the facts so I can make my own decisions. All I hear are a bunch of inside innuendos that don't mean anything to me because I don't hangout at the beauty shop or cafe. And going to the schoolboard meetings doesn't work because if they're doing anything more important than approving the purchase of chalkboard erasers they do it in an executive session. I understand that certain issues belong in executive session, but I think it has been abused. I challenge this new supposed "new and improved" schoolboard to truly allow this community to hold them accountable. Don't hide behind closed doors and if you feel strongly enough about an issue to be for or against it, let us know. If our board members are working with a clear conscience, they should be able to do it in front of a room full of parents and concerned citizens.
Sure, the majority of people in RAB voted for the bond. The majority of them are retired, so their taxes won't go up one dime. It's easy to vote for something that doesn't affect you and doesn't cost you anything. Why don't we let the people who are going to have to PAY for it decide whether or not we need it?
The bond was bad from beginning to end. It was not created by teachers or parents but by suits at BISD who are trying to prove something. Let them go prove it somewhere else.
I believe 5:03 pretty much summed up the problems that have plagued the Alvord schools over the years. It is a wonderful school system, but moral was beginning to falter based on what was said in 5:03s post. Basically, when you are paid to do a job, you should do the job! Or...you should be fired. Kinda hard to work in a place where some worked and others didn't, but were still paid, VERY WELL. Also.... how many places in Texas will keep a coach that doesn't produce a winning program? Well, Alvord was. If the head coach was really working his tail off, that's one thing, but I know for a fact there's plenty of athletic material in Alvord. . . we just need someone who recognizes that and KNOWS how to make them into the champions they can be. There's more involved that just the AD, but I don't have time to write about it. Just know, things are looking up in Alvord!
5:03 is just a bunch of one sided opinionated sarcasm like the rest of it. I am a big boy and I don't need a bunch of disgruntled parents of mediocre athletes forming ny opinions for me. If these people are really on the right side of this issue they wouldn't mind repeating just the facts without first putting their spin on things.
To Anyone wanting the facts about Alvord - here they are..
Last year John Trice and Coach Mike Chaney removed Curtis Enis from the girls AD to tennis coach. Enis is the only Coach ever in history of Alvord to take any program to state. Enis is a wonderful coach and man. He runs a wonderful program! Trice and Chaney removed over some B.S. claims. The town came out and fought for him. The school board had the power to keep him but 4 of the 7 voted against him. The 4 that Trice had in his back pocket. Lynn Garrett, Larry Wilson, Stacy Crafton and Kerry Clower. Lynn made a complete joke of the meeting and everything was done is executive session. Why did Chaney want Enis gone?? I could give you my opinion but you are wanting the facts right?? There is no good reasons. He won more games and seasons then Chaney ever will. That could be one reason? The reason that the Neighbors/Yale crowd supports Chaney is that they can pull his strings and tell him who to Coach and who to play. They could not do that with Enis. If their child/grandchild was not the best then to bad. Chaney wants to keep his job so he spent more time kissing ass then he did coaching and trying to have a winning program. The problem is that he kissed the wrong asses because the election has brought about some new blood on the board and it will just continue to change in the years to come. Lynn and Larry will be gone next year and Chaney will have nowhere to run to!
leave it to people in Alvord to turn a blog about Bridgeport's bond not passing into a blog about themselves. they even have a page in the Chico Texan even though they have their own newspaper in Alvord.
So 9:53, are you telling me that Enis was completely innocent and didn't break the rules in any way? I wasn't able to attend the meeting you say Lynn made a joke of. I have heard from many that the parents and students in support of Enis really made fools of themselves. Is there any truth to that?
No Enis was not completely innocent but if you were at the meeting you would know that the 21 of the claims were the same. That he spend to much money on the girls at the meals two years before but they still renewed his contract. Funny?? Also, funny is that these meals were over the limit when Trice's daughter was in school. Why didn't they stop paying for them? Hmmm.. Trice didn't care that much when Jaqui was getting her meals paid for, did he? I am not saying that Enis did nothing wrong, he has worked there almost 20 years. find me someone that has worked at a job for 20 years and never did anything wrong. That is a challenge for you. What was being said by myself and most of the "supporters" there was, the punishment does not fit the crime. Enis' record stood for itself! He was a great coach, doing a great job of running a great program!
I will also admit that some of the Enis supporters said some things after the meeting that was probably a little foolish. I was not one of them but you also have to remember that they had kids crying on their shoulders. Parents get pretty passionate when it comes to their kids.
Lynn made a joke of the meeting by making a bias statement from the boardroom table. She referred to Trice as "us." I think it was something like. "He (being Coach Enis)has had his chance to speak now let us (being Trice)have a chance. She is supposed to set on the board and listen and have a bias opinion. She had no intention of listening to Enis' side and she stated that! That was her mistake.
Could "us" possibly be representative of the school system she had been elected to represent. And could she be asking for an opportuniy to explain the decision the board, "us" had made?
I don't think anyone will argue that Enis produced winning records. However high school athletics is also supposed to be about building character and discipline. Is continually breaking the guidelines set forth by your superiors your idea of building character? If you consider the number of professional athletes produced by Alvord ISD and compare it to the number of everyday working people produced by Alvord ISD maybe we should put a little more emphasis on ethics and respect for authority and a little less on the win column.
6:47 The days of hiding behind closed doors is over. The new board will not allow this, like the old board did. Now there are people on there that will actually talk to the public instead of hide behind Trice. Go up and talk to any of them. They WILL listen.
8:43 Are you THE Bigboy? If so you know all about putting your spin on things. No one believes a word you say anyway, so get off this thing and GO TO WORK. Walk the halls, do something! Just get out of the cave and quit wasting our tax dollars.
10:33 I have a subscription for the Chico paper because of that sports page. Have you read the Alvord paper? If so, enough said.
11:53 The word US meant "me, Larry and John". She came out of closed session winking at certain people in the 100 plus crowd. But, don't worry....we only have to put up with her for one more year.
12:01 - If the rules were set by "real superiors" that set them the same for ALL, then maybe Enis could have followed them. They started the witch hunt when Enis complained about the girls not getting the same thing as the boys. He simply hacked Trice off. We ALL know what happened to anyone that questioned his authority. There is a list a mile long of GOOD teachers and coaches that her ran off because they had the balls to question his shadey leadership.
And finally - as someone said before. This election was not about Curtis or the soon to be janitor. This was about taking the school to new heights without fear of retaliation every time someone expresses a new idea. It was also about making people accountable, exposing the lies and starting new with honest, likeable leadership. Free at last, Free at last, Thank God oh mighty, we are FREE at last!
Whether Enis was guilty or not...you DON'T renew a person's contract in April, then turn around and fire him in June for actions that happened 2 years prior to that. And NO ONE believed the b.s. that was stated about the alleged actions just coming to the fore front.
5:05, are you KIDDING me? Enis' life was turned topsy turvey. Were you there when the "charges" against him were read? Do you have any idea how ludicrous they were? How obviously concocted they were? After Trice read them, he(Trice) really looked like the idiot because they were so assinine! Enis and his family have paid more than a price! Lord, that statement you just made makes you look as much an idiot as Trice. Look, Chaney might be a nice guy ( I don't know, I don't know him at all) but I do know that he has a lousy record as a head coach and the "Southlake" tag probably gets him into places he wouldn't get otherwise. He brings no LIFE to Alvord, no spirit, no gumption! Let him be a nice guy some place else. Alvord needs an AD with some real GRIT!!
Curtis Enis ran a great program. He did instill character among his athletes, and he enjoyed what he did. Chaney came into the picture and after a few years tried to get Curtis to do things his way. Curtis pretty much refused to do things Chaney's way. Curtis's teams continued to win, Chaney's continued to lose. Stop a second and think about that. (shouldn't take you more than a second to see the problem with Chaney's directives) Chaney complains to Trice that Enis won't "be a team player" and AFTER Trice's daughter graduates, THEN Trice decides that Enis paid too much money for a meal or two for his athletes after a ballgame. Curtis actually contacted UIL and explained that situation to them. UIL said no biggie, just fix the problem, which Enis did. If the UIL didn't have a problem with it, then why would an administration find enough fault that they would reassign Enis? Yep, Trice went on and on about "insubordination" on Enis' part. Well, when you are a winner, heading a winning program, and a coach who does nothing but lose and sit on his butt tells you to change to his way...... hmmmmmm...well, I wonder how many of you understand that THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!! Chaney is bugged that Enis won't "fall into line" and so he complains to Trice... etc..etc...etc. Curtis may have been a little cocky(at least he had reason to be), and he may have pushed for more money, equipment, etc.for the girls,( he coached the girls, it is his job to get those things for them) and he may have been pretty set in his own ways.... just as a champion should be! So, you decide, was Enis wrong?
One more thing, I believe the turnout at the polls and the results of the voting indicate quite stongly who was in the wrong last year. Can't really argue with that now, can we?! Bye bye now...
I don't think McDonalds instead of Outback is what made those girls winners. I think its great that those girls were successful. But that doesn't make Enis exempt from the protocol and chain of command.
Hey 8:50, A quick review of current events and today's politics will show that the popular vote and the righteous outcome have little to nothing in common.
Why would a school board consider putting more tax dollars at the disposal of a man who can't disburse his current budget without having to ask for special forgiveness from UIL? Sounds like a real financial wizard to me.
Curtis Enis was the best thing that ever happen to that town, but the local bubba's could not handle it so that made up a bunch of lies and hung a man that was not guilty.
The real problem in Alvord was inequity and injustice. Enis was not perfect, but in comparison to what Chaney, Crutsinger and wife,Holson and Bullard were doing and have done, it was so obvious that the playing field was not level. Hence the outcry.
What will make it even worse is the upcoming revelations of what Trice was doing/not doing while he was holding Enis to one standard and empowering the above crowd to do as they please.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that was the situation in Alvord. A board went to sleep and let a Supt become a demi-god. Alvord ISD became a fiefdom, where friends (suck-ups) were rewarded not only with lucrative pay, but freedom from corretion, and accountability.
It will take Branum years to reduce the stipends for work not done, get rid of the over staffing, etc.
You know Branum may not have to do much to get Trice's suck-ups to move on. If he just expects them to live up to their contract, it might be more than they can handle.
They are not used to putting in a full day, 7 periods. The shock may be more than they can bear and will look for another district run by a Trice.........most likely one of Trice's buddies. Former Board Pres Hale can't hire them all at James Wood's.
What will Mr. C do if he has to stay on campus, leave his office, walk the halls, discipline kids. What will Ms C do if she can't use her PE period to eat biscuits and gravy in the cafeteria instead of coaching. What will Chaney do if he has to stay at school 8 to 4 instead of working on remodeling his house.
I think it might be best to stop these comments and wait until the Title IX findings are published. (Probably next year) I'm afraid people are beginning to say things on here that might get them into trouble. Time will tell, Title IX findings will tell, and hirings/firings/reassignments will tell. Until then, be careful what you say on a public blog.
Well the election did not completely go as I wished but the people have spoken and now we will see if things change. I hope they do.
Yes, John Schedcik is a good man and will make a good board member if he uses his own mind and does not let the "mamas" that headed his campaign influence all his decisions. I have faith in him !
And talk about a power trip... Kevin was caught whining because he was not appointed as board president. As for his comment overheard while he was on the phone post election "We did it. Now, we're going to turn this town around". I'm all for turning things around, Kevin. But we should all be working together to better our community not protect people who have shrugged the system just because they won basketball games and took teams to state. By the way, for decades Alvord has sent multiple track athletes to run in Austin and set records ! I admit the Enis's had a hand in a couple of those decades but not all the credit goes to them.
And... I expect to see a poster size picture/banner of our Lady Bulldog Softball team Bi-District Champs hanging from the ceiling of the High School Gym. Since when did Cross Country banners get a place in the BASKETBALL arena.
Yeah ! If we are going to hold everyone accountable for their time during school we would want to see who shows up at the tanning salon, who is conducting "collecting" school baord votes in the halls from teachers and, when, C Enis was around, who took time out for a nice jog around town.
Our nation is full of people doing as little as possible at their jobs. Ask yourself, do you ever take "company" time to complete a personal task ?
Let's be fair, Chaney might not be spotless, but he spends a lot of time at the school, games, with the kids, etc.
Its ok to have an opinion and fight for what is right. But "the mob" is not being fair at all. Anyone who has an opionio other than what they support is deemed an idiot. Be fair !
How come no one mentioned that Enis was hired to teach Math. And that AISD had to hire an additional Math teacher to take his spot because his students could not pass the state tests and playing cards all period was part of his genius lesson plans.
All I hear is games won and lost. No one seems to be concerned about the classroom. Let's get our priorities straight. What are our "new, perfect" board members going to do to improve our academics ?
Who cares what Enis did or didn't do? For all of you that don't know.... HE IS NOT COACHING AT ALVORD ANYMORE. Get over it! Trice/Chaney won that one.
Kevin/John won the elections. Lets move on! John will do a great job and it is crazy to think that he will only vote the way the "mamas" want him to. He is his own man and a very educated one at that! If his opinion happens to be the same as the "mamas" then so be it! Kevin will continue to do a great job just as he has in the past.
It will be written once again. Chaney should start looking for another job or start doing his current job better! Good guy/bad guy. Who cares? He is a mediocre coach at best. People/parents/kids they all want to be the best and have winning teams and Chaney is not producing any so he needs to go!
Chaney and Enis are two different men with two different jobs. Let's try holding each accountable for their own responsibilities. Having numerous students fail the state test is a serious thing and Enis was not held accountable at all. He kept his salary and his coaching stipend and got to lose the classroom teaching responsibility.
If you remember, Enis held the AD position at AISD for a time and went to Mr Trice and ex board member and ex buddy E Hale complaining because it was too much responsibility. Trice took the position and arranged for Enis to keep his same salary eventhough he did not earn the stipend anymore. Trice's mistake. Another example of paying someone for a job they didn't do . Do our new board members know anything about this ?
If you were at any of the board meeting and knew anything about Curtis position you would know that he was the Girl's AD. (I had never heard of it before but that is what John Trice told the public at the school board meeting.) So I guess the girl's AD has to teach and the boy's AD does not. I guess that is something else to add to the Title IV report.
I love how everyone is still talking about Enis, what he did or didn't do, what he got paid. HE IS GONE. He was a crappy teacher so you say??? When he taught us, I thought he did a great job but that was a long time ago so I understand that things might have changed. Crappy teachers should be fired but guess what.... so should crappy ADs. Like it or not, people love sports, people support the sports programs and they want them to succeed. It hasn't happened with Chaney and I don't see it coming in the near future. Coach Thweatt is a great example, wonderful man, everyone loves him. He wasn't the best coach in the world. He was replaced!! It happens! Chaney needs to dust off the resume!
I think it is time we allowed the new superintendent and the new board members to have a little time to do what they were hired and or elected to do. Let's stop the finger pointing and the name calling and hope for the best. If you do not think they are doing their job go talk to them. I know the superintendent will make time, i have been there. So please just let these folks do their jobs and move forward in a positive manner.
I wonder what the school could have purchased for our athletic program with the funds that they are having to spend on the title IV? Who's throwing money away now? You know that that was filed out of anger, not in the best interest of our school. You know that they will not find anything worthy of concern.
Just another waste of money. If we were paying for two ADs, we should not have.
The Title 9 is definitly a waste of staff time, money and even our students' time. Is there a way to file a complaint for money spent on sports versus academics ? I know people love sports but are we really helping our kids by putting so much emphasis on all of this ?
I'm with 11:45. Lets try to settle down and give things a chance to work out.
9:54 - Where would you like for the CC pictures to be hung? Well I guess there's plenty of room in the field house, seeing that Chaney hasn't earned one yet.
10:30 - If a teacher/coach doesn't have a parent conference during their mandated conference period, shouldn't they be able to practice what they teach and go run. If you had a clue as to what the teachers and coaches do on their conference period this year, you couldn't stand by that comment.
10:20 - Would you please get off the taks subject and go look at his scores. They were better than most. Don't take Trice or Bullard's word for it, go ask the people that won't lie to your face.
As far as Kevin and John go, they will be great. Both of them are great, smart guys that care about the kids. This year will be the start of the "new beginning" we need.
Now, let's get back to work. Especially, those AISD employees. You're not paid to sit and blog all day.
2:33 I had a kid that used to go to him for extra help, Lord knows the other coaches couldn't help him.I don't see where you are getting your info, but he was and is a great teacher. But why are talking about him anyway. The election had nothing to do with him. When are we going to just leave that guy alone. At least he was smart enough to move on, unlike the current football coach.
Admittedly, I have not read every word of every post, but to the best of my knowlwdge, there were only FOUR post that had any reference to students. A school does not exist for parents, taxpayers, or teachers; it exist for the sole purpose of giving our young people the best, economically feasible education posssible. And what has gone on here for the last 4-5 days has NOTHING to do with trying to provide that education. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. Regardless of the candidate you supported, it is time to focus on preparing our young people for the challenges that face them, and there are a MULTITUDE of challenges! If you want to "get even" and practice smash-mouth or "cram it down their throat" politics, go run for a city council. Our young people deserve better from all us, regardless of what has happened in the past. And I don't need "Anonymous" to hide behind.
344 your crap is getting old. Why don't you shut your computer down? That is the solution. BTW, it will also shut down BG's blog for you and your world.
You are wrong, Kevin. What has gone on here the last 4 to 5 days has everything to do with our kids education. These are the tax paying citizens who are unhappy with the way things have been run. Those administrators/coaches are in charge of our children's education. So what is said here is quite relevant to what is best for the children in Alvord. As a board member, I hope you read each and every post on here to get a clear understanding of what your public wants of their board of education. The board has a great deal of work ahead and for God's sake, you all have our prayers that you will make the right decisions that will benefit our children and protect our tax dollars from being wasted. Don't chastise those who are still upset about last year's events, they certainly have rights to their opinions and reasons to remain anonymous.
Please, Please put this to rest. The remarks on here are just as damaging as last year's administrative stupidity. Are we not better than this? Let's let the board and the new administration do their job. They know what needs to be done to heal and repair this community. Let's let them do it. It will not be over night, it took a while to get in this mess, and it will take a couple of years to dig out of it. But anything worth doing is worth doing right. Back off and watch them work. This blog has served it's purpose by getting the issues out there. Now it's just sad to sit a read all these angry rumors. The kids deserve better than this from us. They don't need to be able to Google in AISD and see all this trash pop up about a school they are supposed to be proud of. Kevin is right - it's about doing what is best for these kids. Is this blog the best we have to offer?
BG - PLEASE SHUT THIS DOWN. THE FEW FACTS THAT ARE ACCURATE ARE WELL KNOWN. THE MAJORITY OF THIS IS PEOPLE THAT DON'T HAVE A JOB OR ABUSING THE ONE THEY HAVE TO VENT AND TRASH PEOPLE. IT'S MEAN. JUST MEAN. WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS AND 65% OF OUR COMMUNITY VOTED IN THE RECENT ELECTION TO SHOW IT. WE WILL MOVE FORWARD. I HOPE WE ARE DEFINED BY THE FEW PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN JEALOUS, MEAN-SPIRITED, LAZY, AND DRIVEN BY PERSONAL AGENDAS. A.H.S. IS ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY - GOD HELP US.

When will it ever end?
Our Bridgeport students needed an Indoor Practice facility?
We needed to replace all the PCs with Macs?
Tell ya what, go have a fund drive to raise money for that pork.
Yes, our schools need some improvements. They also need people with some sanity to put together a bond package that is fiscally responsible.
why is there not a run off in the decatur school board election??? only 3 votes???
The bond issue is about 20% what the kids NEED, and the rest is what the administration building WANTS. If they stuck to new classrooms it'd be one thing--it's all the extras we don't want and can't afford.
They should let parents and teachers decide what is needed instead of a few suits who don't care what the community can support.
AMEN 12:06. There should be a run off between Lowery and Billmire.
It does seem odd that a vote was called "failed" without all the ballots in.
Likely a failed bond issue has to do with our concern about the economy, certainly not a vote against what our kids need.
Maybe next time Bridgeport schools!
Good job Bridgeport!
No runoff. New law elects man with highest vote.
Good job Alvord!
Maybe just maybe, the end of the Neighbor's Clan running Alvord as their own little fiefdom is over.
Let's hope, next year the house is finally cleaned out with the exit of Larry and Lynn.
Don't relax till the job is finished Alvord.
Or at least a recount???
Another voting result: Runaway Bay voters soundly rejected Mayor Jowitt's cronies. Candidates St. John, Ticer and Rhea won by a large margin. This was a solid vote for more open and competent representation in RAB. Another opportunity for real "change."
Excuse me for a moment while I burst at the seams with joy! WE WON! WE WON in Alvord!
That's TWO for the LIGHT side and ZERO for the DARK side!
Did I make you nervous Marion!!!!!
INTIMIDATION doesn't scare me, ask TRICE!
Come talk to me and you can SEE & READ the REAL TRUTH for youself! Oh, I forgot you don't want to know the truth!!!!! Sorry my mistake!!!!
Thanks WCS's Deputies for being so nice yesterday!
When you are doing NOTHING WRONG, there is NO FEAR of the law!
This is Bridgeport, not the Hamptons! An indoor practice facility is unrealistic for a small North Texas Town, who has been and will be continue to struggle during the economic times. Has no one noticed all of the job losses and the companies shutting their doors and moving elsewhere?
The run between Bilmire and Lowery was really close - but a win is a win. I bet Lowery is thankful for the three extra people who showed up.
My concern is there were only 281 people voted at all. Shut up about your school board if you didn't bother to vote!
8:40, tell us more. Sounds as if you have a very interesting story.
In Alvord, it seems the ol' saying "WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND" is rearing its sweet head!!! woohooo! Time will tell.
YEA FOR ALVORD!
the chaney are will soon end!
in a day and age where newspapers are shutting down almost on a weekly basis, how does the WCM continue to survive with the editor it now has? where in the hell are all the results? no chico? no runaway bay? not anything else but the few you posted on your web site?
i just dont get the management over there, and i now question the "new" ownership that lets this continue. our county paper wont survive at this rate
Now Alvord needs to get rid of LARRY! What an idiot!
Support Bridgeport students?....you bet, anytime.
3:06 PM, You are absolutely right, but PLEEEEASE for GOODNESS SAKE, GIVE US THIS MOMENT, we are starting to catch a glimpse of the light!
ALVORD HELP WANTED - "Coach for TENNIS PROGRAM"!
Double Fake Steve C.
Ok 3:06 PM, I have had my moment! Thank You!
FYI: When those have been held ACCOUNTABLE, then we can move on!
Hey Alvord,
Congrats on extending you Athletic Director's contract for two more years! Bwah-hahahahahaha!
Other people's money is so easy to spend. A million for turf. 5 mil for an indoor practice facility for a game played out-doors.
And don't buy this crap about how much it would have been used for other activities..........when pigs fly.
Bridgeport admin really did try to sneak this one thru. The pork was rarely mentioned.......hidden in "improvments to HS. "
Makes one wonder what else is hidden at BISD.
6:31 PM,
"Before you people get into boasting about how the indoor practice facility was ignorant.
5:04
The last laugh will be on him.
GO DAWS
"GO DAWS"...... lol! Kinda lets the air out of your opinion, doesn't it!
Alvord will be cooking with gas now!
Decatur has spoken - Lowery won, thank goodness.
Congrats Lowery.
A runoff? That's funny - not in the history of school board elections, I don't think!
Good luck Runaway Bay.
Alvord will revert back to the 70's type school board now. We will once again be equle to park springs i.s.d Way to go you bunch of sheep. ba ba ba
anon 4:50...you're stupid!
of course there was a track put it at the new decatur high school, and there needed to be one. why would we bus kids to track practice at the middle school every day? imagine that cost in the long run...not too mention time.
i hate dumb people
chaney will be the next tennis coach...or janitor
I will repeat myself on the cost of the indoor practice facility. It was budgeted for less than 1 million dollars. Approximately $850,000. Do your research before you spout off, those numbers can be backed up.
I did vote against the bond so I have no reason to argue the price. Matter of fact I would have a better arguement if the cost were greater. Another thing that people aren't willing to consider is that a turf football field is economically sound. The cost is offset by the maintanence. Doesn't mean you justify the expense but it is not just a stupid idea.
8:37
You spell like you are from Park Springs.
Great job!
Can someone summarize for me what the disagreements are about in Alvord?
9:25
12:00
The vote Sat in Alvord was a resounding step one in restoring order. Stacy has been removed for her blind support of Trice. McCoy shunned.
Next step will be revelations re what hasn't been done by Trice and Co........including but not nearly limited to the Title 9 report.
Step three will occur at next year's election. Larry and Lynn don't have the decency to crawl away now, but they will be replaced too next year.
Alvord has a real shot at being a place where things are done right and for the right reasons.
The saddest thing about the BISD bond elections was the number of votes cast.
10:36
No self accoutability?
10:16 AM, That's what Becky Oliver said!
Hey 5:48,
I would like the same thing but I think it is being made painfully obvious that we won't find our answers here.
10:33 - maybe if BG would give us our own post we wouldn't take over yours. Talk to him! LOL
Could "us" possibly be representative of the school system she had been elected to represent. And could she be asking for an opportuniy to explain the decision the board, "us" had made?
Could the 21 claims be for 21 seperate instances that he violated the same rule?
I don't think anyone will argue that Enis produced winning records. However high school athletics is also supposed to be about building character and discipline. Is continually breaking the guidelines set forth by your superiors your idea of building character? If you consider the number of professional athletes produced by Alvord ISD and compare it to the number of everyday working people produced by Alvord ISD maybe we should put a little more emphasis on ethics and respect for authority and a little less on the win column.
6:47
The days of hiding behind closed doors is over. The new board will not allow this, like the old board did. Now there are people on there that will actually talk to the public instead of hide behind Trice. Go up and talk to any of them. They WILL listen.
8:43
Are you THE Bigboy? If so you know all about putting your spin on things. No one believes a word you say anyway, so get off this thing and GO TO WORK. Walk the halls, do something! Just get out of the cave and quit wasting our tax dollars.
10:33
I have a subscription for the Chico paper because of that sports page. Have you read the Alvord paper? If so, enough said.
11:53
The word US meant "me, Larry and John".
11:53 Lynn was not elected. She was appointed, due to the passing of her husband.
Whether Enis was guilty or not...you DON'T renew a person's contract in April, then turn around and fire him in June for actions that happened 2 years prior to that. And NO ONE believed the b.s. that was stated about the alleged actions just coming to the fore front.
that rabbit hole go's a lot deeper than trice, chaney and lynn...... we have a problem here in alvord and we need to solve it right now!!
dont blame me i voted for obama
I'll be back!!
Double Fake Curtis Enis
It looks like the new mob wants everyone held accountable but Enis.
So by ludicrous and concocted you are saying they aren't true?
Yeah I heard Enis' supporters were oozing with character at the board meeting.
So was Chaney, Enis' boss when he refused to do things his way, because I believe that is pretty much the definition of insubordination.
Would Curtis still be the local hero if his UIL infractions would have cost an Alvord team playoff contention?
I don't understand the mindset that considers a winning record justification for not following the rules set forth by administration and UIL.
I don't think McDonalds instead of Outback is what made those girls winners. I think its great that those girls were successful. But that doesn't make Enis exempt from the protocol and chain of command.
Hey 8:50,
A quick review of current events and today's politics will show that the popular vote and the righteous outcome have little to nothing in common.
Can you say "idiocracy"?
Why would a school board consider putting more tax dollars at the disposal of a man who can't disburse his current budget without having to ask for special forgiveness from UIL? Sounds like a real financial wizard to me.
Curtis Enis was the best thing that ever happen to that town, but the local bubba's could not handle it so that made up a bunch of lies and hung a man that was not guilty.
doc
Yeah you know how those local bubbas just can't stand a winning team.
I've been sitting back watching all this rambling and haven't heard one valid defense of this Enis fellow.
Well, 7:08, I'll say I haven't heard one valid reason for Enis'reassignment. Why don't you folks put that on here?
The real problem in Alvord was inequity and injustice. Enis was not perfect, but in comparison to what Chaney, Crutsinger and wife,Holson and Bullard were doing and have done, it was so obvious that the playing field was not level. Hence the outcry.
What will make it even worse is the upcoming revelations of what Trice was doing/not doing while he was holding Enis to one standard and empowering the above crowd to do as they please.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that was the situation in Alvord. A board went to sleep and let a Supt become a demi-god. Alvord ISD became a fiefdom, where friends (suck-ups)
were rewarded not only with lucrative pay, but freedom from corretion, and accountability.
It will take Branum years to reduce the stipends for work not done, get rid of the over staffing, etc.
I hope everyone involved is held accountable for their actions including but not limited to Enis.
Oh dear!
I am sorry.. What does Chaney teach?
I think you will find that typically the AD of a 2A school does not teach. All other coaches have classes. Be fair, now.
10:47
Sounds like we got a Hatfield / McCoy feud going on here.
By the way ... Thweatt is still at AISD.
11:54 - you must have boys and not girls! Otherwise, you would know why the title IV was filed!
11:54 - Stay tuned. you are wrong on that one.
IV = four
IX = nine
Title IX
12:55 - I had a student in that math class and 63% of them failed the TAKS. Enough said!
12:07 Got Both! And my own two eyes! And what would be unfair between the two programs? I am just not seeing it!
Hey GB....Why don't you close this blog down??????? This shit is getting old!
3:44 - No one is forcing you to point and click to read and follow.
"Harry no, don't look at the light!"
I-can't-help-it. It's so beautiful.
zappppppp!
2:33
I had a kid that used to go to him for extra help, Lord knows the other coaches couldn't help him.I don't see where you are getting your info, but he was and is a great teacher.
Kevin Wood
Don't chastise those who are still upset about last year's events, they certainly have rights to their opinions and reasons to remain anonymous.
thats it good job you bunch of hillybillys of alvord vote out anyone that is smarter than a icecube and put the dumb ones on the board
10:01, Smarter than an icecube? You just showed yourself as a moron.
Alvord needs a town hall meeting for grown ups only.
9:39 AM,
No Alvord just needs to join together and get rid of the CORRUPTED TRASH, instead of tolerating them!
Red
