Could they pick a colder night to be with out power? Good time to make use of the fire place.

Very insightful, fingernail clipper collector. They all got together and decided not to have power tonight.

Hehe he 6:25. Sweet.

I was unaware that they had electricity out there in the first place.

I thought it was just a golf course and a bunch of overzealous cops.

Huh.

mzchief said...

Approximately 1 hour ago electricity was restored to all of RAB thus enabling this flea infested, over taxed, armpit of a burg to crawl into the 20th century. Perhaps, in 60-75 years, RAB will join the rest of the planet in the 21st century.

R.A.B. We are so ripped off living here Tax's too high streets and imminity's piss poor condition! No insight as for planning anything correctly! Our city pool and joke of walking path both located where they are with wonderful views of HWY 380 and the Storage units... Front entrance and RunawayBay drive are such eye sore! folks move here relize what they have done and attempt to sell their homes and they cant So many many homes for sale here dont let anyone tell you that its due to the economic times as all these homes have been for sale for years ! My neighbors homes have been on the market for 3-4 years! I should have never moved from South lake wish I could go back...Im stuck here along with my neighbors as I cant sell my home either! Runaway from the BAY is what this place should be called!

R.A.B. over rated way to high tax

Was once a nice place could be again with little effort ! Sad real sad that area.

Most of the folks that were on the P&Z didnt and dont have the ability to think things thru.Mentioned previously were the pool and the jogging path and the "piss poor"location of those facility. R.A.B lost its notority when they didnt fix the original pool on the hill which had a panoramic view of the lake and landscape. Now that builging has its most traffic during an election year and the one day 4th of July. That retainer wall was 40k+ and part of the rebuiling process to restore the pool....WHAT A WASTE of MY TAX DOLLARS...Not one person in the past 20+ years has had the vision needed to Bring R.A.B.back to its former namesake making it A place where most dreamed of moving too! I remeber it well and wish it was like that again . I might have a snowballs chance to sell my home or stay if I wished.RUNAWAY

11:30 - The P&Z had NOTHING to do with the old or new city pool - the City Council overrode everyone else and established the park and the chose the new pool location. The P&Z, Parks board and EDC have all tried ways of upgrading the city but a series of mayor/dictators and incompetent councils have created the mess we now have. Glad I got out of there.

Anonymous said...

12:02 I totally agree with you on everything you stated But the P&Z is about planning and they wernt capable of it then and havnt gotten any better!
The land the Currnet pool and walking path is located on was "donated" by ol boy "car dealer" City went and spent the money "improving that land" when they should have used the money to dig all the debris from the original site and replace the pool on top of the Hill as the civic building and bathroom facility were already there as was the expensive retaining wall!

Only one gained anything by the pools and walking paths location now is the ol boy whom donated the land in the first place as he owns all the land adjacent to it!
But in most part you are right ex police chiefs, city co-oridinators, mayors, and council, are to blame for the S---hole we live in @ present Some one needs to have some balls and tell it like it is...oh I guess I just did! One would think that as they turn off 380 into the main entrance that by the looks of a dismal tree during these up comming holidays that we were LOW BROW and esp during the EASTER egg on a stick trailor park trash days that our taxs would reflect these scenes, not the case by a long shot Poor planning. How did you make it out without loosing your shirt?Or did you like someone else I know take a serious hit cutting their loss and RUNAWAY from this BAy

Anonymous said...

All it will take is new, fresh thinking council members and mayor. Come election time, pay attention to who is on the ballot and what they have to say. Then GO VOTE. We can change RAB.

Anonymous said...

They will all be stagnant folks too! Fresh thinking requires fresh minds or @ least an open mind and to be willing to listen to new ideals Doubt that will happen here anytime soon Cant refill the pond expecting fresh water if the water is tainted much less stagnant! The pond must be drained completly!Old school thinks OLD SCHOOL!

Anonymous said...

I believe there are enough new, young fresh thinking people out there now to make changes. (I am one of them, and already getting my war chest ready.)

RWB posters, Planning isn't the problem - it's the execution. The new Master Plan has a bunch of pie-in-sky stuff but it is up to private $$$ to make anything happen. And it just isn't happening. BTW - the current P&Z has been gutted by the mayor & council (they refused to re-appoint the P&Z chair causing 3 other members to resign in protest). Why the problem? The P&Z (which only advises - the Council decides) refused to recommend some off-premises signs that the mayor wanted. So the council has now appointed 5 inexperienced replacements that they can better control. Those who talk about elections better get busy and find 3 good candidates. This place is definitely in poor hands now.

Anonymous said...

Be persistant dont let them beat your ears as they do so often, I have seen the tuffest/dead to rites individuals run out of here on rails to many times in the past! You will need a gatlin gun equiped with a fresh belt of AMMO to go along with that War chest your getting ready! Good luck

Anonymous said...

Signs? Off premises? whats that about? From Ill. to RAB, when will all the scandals end? replacment of council with 5 in-experienced members whom can be easy to lead or mis-lead as the case might be.those seeking a seat should have a crash coarse lesson in the shinanagins and PAST CONDUCT of previous council. All seeking these seats should be held Liable for any future Boon doggles or any B.S. during their terms.
I think Small town politics should be held to above ethical moral standards And all council mebers should have some college or a degree of sometype before they are allowd to sit in any seat on the council!Required to have a Background check including that of a CREDIT rating If you cant balance your own check book and finances dont try to take on issues involving Multi Ks into millions of $....most of those holding council seats (past)were certifed basket cases esp when it came to their own finance!

Lets hope these sighns arnt anythign like the green and gold entrence sighns that didnt hold up for a season before they began looking like S--- more wasted dollars and poor planning!
Ill(govener) to R.A.B.(council) Lord help us all!

Ill (as in sick) in rab is how I feel!

Anonymous said...

Hey collector of finger nail clippers. Maybe they should have picked tonight instead.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry folks "Crazy Bill" Hastings will save you all as soon as they develop his property and turn it into a gambling mecca with high end homes built on canals dredged into that entire 120 acre tract on the east side of the bridge. Believe it or not he really has the authority granted by US Govt. that allows him to do this..I've seen all the documents..someday this could be a major attraction to RAB..$8 mil to buy w/rights, pretty cheap..!

Anonymous said...

Shut up Wayne. The sooner you move out of RAB the better the town will be. The citzens of RAB don't want to change the appearance (main entrance) because it has history from way back when.

mzchief said...

To Anonymous 11:32...
You do not speak for me and I have lived in RAB for 20+ years and would like the scraggly tree removed from the main entrance and would greatly appreciate the city refraining from displaying the tacky painted eggs during the Easter season.

The single diseased tree at the main entrance is not only a pathetic attempt at landscaping it is a detriment to the appearance of the main entrance. The original reason for planting the tree was to save on the annual expense of erecting a Christmas tree. If the city is so strapped for cash it cannot afford to erect a Christmas tree then do not put one up but for Heaven sake do not leave up a scraggly tree all year long. It is akin to leaving up, all year long, outdoor Christmas lights because it is too much trouble to put them up and take them down during the season.

As for the entrance having any historic meaning, I was ever so thankful when the city removed the rotting wooden portion of the main entrance. I have no problem with the stone structure but thank Heaven someone decided to remove the rotting portion of a historic feature of RAB. Being old does not always mean something is historic, sometimes it is just JUNK.

Anonymous said...

Historic? Entrance used to have fountains there too! I know that those can be a nightmare to maintain tho! Ive got to agree that the portions of the entrance that were removed needed to be removed and it indeed made it look better, however there needs to be more done to make the area appealing and I am not talking about just the gate alone!
As for crazy Bill he indeed holds more power than most would like to belive but thats his gig and his alone he has been talking bout those specific plans for 20 years now and hasnt followed thru why do you think that is?
If R.A.B. wished to have some REVINUE and put this Town on the MAP I know the guy they need to talk too!Like him or hate him he has some great ideals and I belive they would indeed put R.A.B. in a light ,uch needed as we are indeed withering away in this here BAY!

Anonymous said...

So who is this guy you think can set this city in the proper lite?

Anonymous said...

I will establish contact with him and ask if he minds my posting his name and ideals here on this site?

Anonymous said...

As for the main entrance, plans were developed to redo the entrance in today's landscaping, modern looks, etc. But there were all of the old timers who raised nine kinds of cane about it being historical. Get out of the seventies and into the 2000's. Change isonly possible if people want change. Change can't be achieved when you have people like the Pravitz's who try to cause more problems than correct them. I guess that is what happens whenyou retire and have nothing better to do than bum beer at the Club and see what bad you can stir. What Pravitz's doesn't realize is that he is costing himself money as everyone else. Why do you think he has never been elected to City Council, because people know he can't keep his mouth shut long enough to do something good. I think a 4-sale sign in front of his house would boost the economy in the BAY.

Anonymous said...

Again it isnt just the Main Gate that is the problem! Other issues are adversly effecting the growth and prosperity of this little city and its local business too!
I called on and spoke to the individual whom I refrenced above asked if I could post his name.He wasnt comfortable with my doing so! Said he and sevral others were viewed as threats and trouble makers by those in sevral previous circles of power(city officials) and that his reputation and action still leaves a bitter taste and still continues to be controversial amongst city leaders and some residents to this date!

As for posting his ideals he wasnt open to that either stating that he would be more inclined to take into consideration a position as a consultant of some type! stating what he once was willing to give away for free now has a dollar amount attached to it!

Mentioned to me that all of us here posting our complaints VIA this method are not going to accomplish anything as this route has been takin before and the only ones it hurt were folks like himself who tried to make a difference! He stated he was more than happy to help and would step forward when he saw that things were moving forward untill then he was layin low .His last comment to me was "INSANITY is doing the same thing over and over agian expecting differnt results and that perhaps we should try somthing differnt"? I belive this guy is truly on to somthing with that comment as this indeed isnt going to solve the problems needing solved by posting our complaints here or on any board! What say we think of somthing DIFFERNT any suggestions?

Anonymous said...

11:44 you hit it on the head. RAB has people that don't do anything but run the city down, but they never do anything to make it better. As for the tree and the eggs I don't know who came up with the idea but it is better than not doing anything at all. All of you that sit up at the club and talk the city down need to look for another place to live since it is so bad there. I am sure you can find another town to sit and talk down.

Anonymous said...

12:58 the problem is there is NOTHING good to talk about!
Your comment doing somthing is better than nothing isnt very well made when the things you mentioned make the very point everyone here is discussing! in case you missed it. The piss poor tree and egg on a stick thingy's (Easter)appears to and does infact makes us as a City look CHEAP and I do agree with all very very cheap !! Please do nothig if you belive this is attractive I would rather see tall weeds in the streets than S--- like that!

mzchief said...

To Anonymous 12:58#2...
There are instances where having NOTHING is better than having JUNK. The ever present, scraggly Christmas tree and trashy painted eggs are cases in point.

For quite sometime Mr. mzchief and I were VERY involved in RAB. Of course, that was PRIOR to the infestation of Walt Warner/Napoleon and his band of sycophantic mental midgets. Warner was the beginning of the end of RAB. Ever since Warner's reign of terror the community has fallen apart and has further gone to rot. The current administration is no better than Warner's and is even worse than Warner's was about increasing the city budget and number of personnel all the while providing fewer services and doing little to involve the citizenry.

I truly agree with 12:58#1 in that the citizens do not need to elect or silently tolerate the appointment of anymore of the good buddies of the current administration.

Incidentally, Mr. mzchief and I have had our home on the market, at 20% BELOW market value, for 2 years. We were able to sell, within months, our 300+ acre farm west of RAB. Clearly, with the current economy and situation with the LACK of services in RAB, leaving is not an option.

12:58 I would love to know who it is ? A hint perhaps? Any possiblity of letting us in on just one of the mystry mans ideals?

Boil water notice for R.A.B. wonderful first the power then the water what next?

mzchief said...

Ahem...
PERHAPS, I was mistaken when I stated two days ago that in 60-75 years, Runaway Bay will join the rest of the planet in the 21st century. In light of the fact the citizens of RAB, currently, must boil water, until further notice, to make it safe for consumption, I really am not holding out much hope RAB will crawl into the 21st century prior to the rest of the planet marching into the 22nd century.

Anonymous said...

Listen mental giants. The fact the council made drastic changes in the P&Z (PLANNING & zoning) should indicate they are striving to make change. But all of you habitual whinners sit back and bash the city. Taxes are no worse than anywhere else. Investigate the facts before you state things as such.

Anonymous said...

Well folks, apparently you have an opportunity to inform mayor Jowitt what you think of his administration. His are the inane criticisms of others - see 11:44 for example. The list of inappropriate activities of his administration is extensive. He's watching this blog – so tell him what you really think. By the way 11:32, I’ve had nothing to do with altering the front entrance. Wayne (Proud member of FFOJ)

lol 4:36 The boil water notice is because of the pressure drop in the system overnight more likly attributed to the power failure the eve before thus the reason we didnt have any real preasure yesterday morning! As cold as it has been over the two days prior and the fact that the system still has a residual Cl2 clorine, I am not worried in the least about the notice we recived! Had this (low pressure)happend for sevral days and been in the heat of the summer I would be boiling my water!

Sometimes the STATE & its rules and regs cause more panic than they at( tnrcc or who ever they are today) are worth!
I have met and talked with Randy before up @ the plant and occasionaly @ the store and I know that he is very very qualified and capable of doing his Job ! Fear nothing its just a STATE mandated thing this (boil notice) Cant let one little hickup get to you when without fail everytime you turn on the water faucet you get product! These guys working on our sewer and water system need acknowledging for the GREAT JOB they have been doing over the years! Only when somthing goes wrong do they hear anything @ all! Not really fair to them!!!
remeber D.W. what a joke Clorine @ the tap if A little did good more was better!
No these guys got their act together And I appreciate NON interuption of my service sewer/water for the past ten years! GREAT JOB MEN!!!

As I stated earlier, this isnt the venue to get anythign accomplished!

Take a differnt approach as people will belive yet again that R.A.B. is for the mentally deranged!
These postings get more and more ugly with each post!

Tell me is this going to accomplish anything you are setting out to resolve? Insanity again is doing the same thing over and over expecting differnt results! Go @ this from a differnt direction!Ive been here already and see where its heading again!
lets not be the laughter of neighboring towns thinking to themselves how do they plan on fixing anything with their city when they are far from 21 century thinking "Chimps throwing POO"? I dont really know how any of that helps with our current and future situation!Makes us look damn crazy out here in R.A.B. esp for the WORLD to be reading!
And to the person regarding our TAX's not being unlike those of other city taxs ...Look around at what you have and compare it to those towns metioned above....No comparison nothing to compare so yes very very High tax here... I can show you my tax 's from when I moved here to presant and you would be stunned! Take this a differnt route and unite or dont but this isnt the way to change our city's image not here it only hurts us belive me been here done this it only breeds more poo throwing chimps and lots of laughs! Seriously our city is in drastic decline and we need positive helpful ideals! My neighbor of 7+years lost 200k getting away from here as he admitted to me he CUT his loss and ran... I cant do that! We must bring the LUSTER back to our community making it a desirable place to live in once again! 20 percent reductions and 200 k losses arnt acceptable....to many homes for sale now all this long before our econmic meltdown! Open for suggestions and ideals lets keep our fece's together and do somthing already!

(11:21) Poor mayor Jowitt (or his highness as he seems to prefer). Let's deal in facts rather than juvenile name-calling. Before long the FFOJ club will exceed the population of RAB. Poor fella. I have to agree that this forum is not the most effective means of dealing with our city mess. Let’s get together as a civic group and develop a meaningful approach for real improvement. Who’ll take the lead?

I recall so many years ago when Runaway Bay opened to the public. I was about 10 and my first time to "see" the new city on the lake was great. The entrance had fountains... and a guard's gate. One had to stop to speak to the guard before being allowed in. I remember sitting in the back seat of my parents new (used, but new to them) Cadillac as we approached the guard. My father told him we were coming to eat at the new restaurant.... I think it was straight ahead and off to the right. It was a GREAT place to eat! I had my first cup of coffee there! My dad actually ordered me Sanka (decaf, of course) and I thought I was such a big girl! There was a buffet with those "little corns" and that was the first time I had ever seen those. Wow! I recall the big fireplace and the enormous (well, to a 10 yr. old it was enormous) sword fish that was hung over the mantel. There were big glass windows and one could see the view of the lake from almost anywhere in that restaurant. We came back Sunday after Sunday (our after church "treat") and felt we were in "high cotton!" I always remembered the place as packed ...people wearing their Sunday best and the food....oh...the food was soooo good!
I remember too that just inside the entrance...to the left there just a block or half block coming in was a pony ride place. Almost every Sunday after we ate, my folks would stop there and I would get to ride the ponies! What happy times!
Runaway Bay was a "dream place!" A place where folks who lived in the city could come and get away from it all. Enjoy the view of beautiful B'port Lake and relax with the company of good folk.
My sister's boyfriend got the job of lifeguard at the "new" pool there on the hillside just to the left of the entrance. OH my... to go and swim there was such a treat! It was so pretty, the nice pool, view of the lake...and the beautiful new buildings and homes.
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE PLACE? Why were these places ALL destroyed? The restaurant ....gone! The pool....gone! Long gone are the little pony rides! And the beauty and serenity of the "high class" Runaway Bay....gone!
You folks there had it all... and you let it slip away.
I recall those days there with great fondness and pride ...that I lived so close to a real "utopia!"
Someone... a group of folks....anyone....needs to step up and bring this place back to its former glory! Put the guard back at the entrance.... build the beautiful restaurant again that overlooks the lake.... put the pool back, large and welcoming the visitors to the Bay. RESTORE the past and bring the folk back to the place where the city folk could come to runaway from their stress and concrete!
Runaway Bay........bring back the historical comfort and pizazz of the hidden bay!!

I have lived in many cities, and RAB is beautiful. It is on an outstanding lake with a beautiful golf course and many people would love to live here. Many communities this size does not even have a pool or walking trail for people to complain about, so enjoy what you have. As I see it, people posting here are trying to hurt each other, and run down the city, but I don’t hear anyone trying to do anything positive. If someone lost 200k on a home, they either were trying to keep up with the Jones’s and got over extended, or built some real funky stuff that no one would buy. I live here, and I like it, so if you don’t like it, and can’t afford to move, please shut your mouth because everyone else gets tired of hearing the crying. This is not Southlake or Chico or Bridgeport, it is Runaway Bay, and its home.

Poor fella my elbow!! He waited and prayed to gain his "throne". Now he has it, he farms all responsibilities to everyone he can--just like his school positions-- then "travels". This way, he can say, "don't blame me I have no action in anything".
Guess he's in for life??
Whoever takes the lead better be ready for the wrath of the Jowitt regime. Why does Wayne not take the reins?

Anonymous said...

Here's a for instance: Jowitt wanted to "farm out" the Building Inspector role. He got council to go along – they agreed as long as they provided a position for the current inspector. Council was assured this would happen. Then a couple of months later, the former inspector had serious surgery and was out of work due to Dr.'s orders. What did City do? They fired the guy when his vacation and sick leave ran out! This is a violation of the agreement made by the council when they went along with the “farmed-out” inspection company. A really compassionate move, huh mayor?

Hmmmm...Your attitude of, agree with me, shut up or leave is SOOOOOO typical of RAB.
*Geeezzzeeee* you people are something else.

Anonymous said...

I doubt that really happend the way it is claimed to have been told above with the building insp!A former employe of R.A.B. taught the city a real lesson suied on grounds of a bill passed by Bill Clinton(family leaves act)I dont belive they (city or council)would be so stupid as to go about any wrong doing again!

Anonymous said...

9:48 Wow what A memory you have! I forgot about the pony rides...lol As for the Boat club to the left of the entrance it was torn down due to the tinder box it had become and probably was all along! It did indeed have a massive fireplace and was a wonderful place to sit and eat and look out at the view from those massive windows! I remeber the gaurd shack too... gave them hell...lol I also remeber when the Dallas Cowboys would come out here by buss to the BAY to "get away"
But I will go one even better than that I remember NBC wide World of Sports covering the Hydro plane race's I belive this was in 1975? does anyone remebr this?
I have been one to attempt to bring about such events in the past and met with fierce opposition No one see's the bigger picture as stated earlier OLD SCHOOL which is unfortunatly how the area(R.A.B.) lost its Attractive features and how lack of vision brought us to this DECAY/decline of our city that kind of Old School thinkng!
Sad real sad that this has happend and continues to as most wont or dont wish to do anything about it! By the Way to 1:49 a.m. the individual whom lost 200k on his property was and is debt free I know this man well his only bad investment to this date was investing in property at R.A.B.!
I am Sure Flozel Adams (Dallas Cowboy) also has a bad taste in his mouth too after being bam bozzled into investing in RunawayBAy! His project was doomed from conception, wasnt because anyone is tryin to "KEEP UP with the JONES"need I say more regarding the loss of BIG BIG $$$ on this CITY? I can go into a lot more detailed explainations regarding a lot more situations that would absolutly floor you 1:49 And what about Mr. E.J. who has lost sevral sales of his property due to past situations involving the City and its shennanigins? But I am just going to leave that one alone...for now! There is more wrong with the BAY than there is right a few corrections would tip the scales in our favor greatly! Somthing needs being done immediatly! Nothing to show for our tax $$$ this needs to be adressed like 6 years ago!Do or do NOT there is No try!

Anonymous said...

You are taking up for Flozel Adams? What a joke!

You people must be sleeping and have not noticed the City has ten times more in reserve funds than previous administration, training, equipment, and overall it is ran more like it should be. Guess the old saying of tell one person something and by the time it gets back to everyone else, the while story has changed direction. Everyone moons and complains about not having the finest, but the City can only do so much because everyone wants this to still be a retirement home community and not allow people to bring businesses in. More businesses mean more tax relief. Get a small grocery store with decent items and decent prices-it doesn't have to be a major chain. Start somewhere to attract more business. There are plenty of people with money in the Bay, do something positive with it. Donate some to rebuild the main entrance to the original state with the light house and up to today's standards. Don't complain about it. If you want top notch facilities, donate your time to help with it, donate your supplies-Tax write off for most businesses who donate. Don't be a back seat driver-be a leader and go for positive things instead of nagging and complaining about it and not doing anything to help correct the problem.
