Thriller

Ok, I almost distance from this. I've never cared for marching bands, but I do like marching bands doing schtick. This is the Oklahoma Sooners band breaking out into the Michael Jackson "Thriller" dance. It happens with about a 1:00 left in the video and goes on for about 30 seconds. Ever since Jennifer Garner recreated that dance in 13 Going On 30, you're seeing it more and more. (Link.) Like the wedding dance video.

Awesome! I love marching bands! A lot of people don't realize the amount of time these kids put into a show, they deserve more respect than they get.

Baylor's been doing the same thing all year.

Awesome. Just seems like the Oklahoma Sooners are good at a lot of stuff.

Band geeks are cool, and according to a recent Yahoo news article, music lessons pay off in higher earnings. I think I'll get back to my piano lessons now. Mind you, I did not say banjo lessons.

I can't even get into Michael Jackson nostalgia - he creeps me out too much.

They don't have anything on the Nationally Famous Fightin' Texas Aggie Band! Whoop!!
We may not win every game, but we sure as hell win every half-time!

Um. Am I the only one that watched this and just thought it was stupid? Why was everyone so excited that a band did a crappy imitation of the Thriller dance?

Also, anon 12:39 is hilarious. I don't know why but whenever I see that comment, I laugh.

Hey Frustrated--It was just silly fun. You should try it sometime.

saw-e-ag,
That is your opinion, & I do not agree with it. I'll give you that the AGroid band has mastered precision marching, but move on, do something different. After you see 'em once, you're only watching a re-run with a few tweaks. (yawn)
Boring!

saw-e-agg, you've got to be kidding. People in the know understand that the aggy band isn't particularly good. Playing "Go Tell Aunt Rhoadie" over & over for 50 years does not make you great. Did they learn that at the aggy music department?..what?..there is no aggy music department. Ask anyone with a degree in music and they'll agree that the aggy band is below average with poor sound. The first two questions asked of people joining the corp of cadets are: 1)Do you play an instrument; and 2)Would you like to learn. A large number of the Sooner band members are actually music majors who were all-state band members during high school. That's not so for your glorified ROTC. For a large percentage of them, this is their first introduction to music and many of the freshmen don't even play on the field.

The band at TAMU is only 300 or so people strong out of the corps of cadets that is over 2000. All members of the marching band are brought to A&M on scholarship, no one is forced to play an instrument.
5:20-- you sound bitter

What's just silly fun? The Thriller dance? It just doesn't impress me really. I honestly do love "FAKE."
