The overly uptight Jacquielynn Floyd of the Dallas Morning News has a column today about how the "Beer Bongers" (I don't think Floyd is over 65, she just writes that way) have taken over the the float-down-the-river culture of New Braunfels.
I haven't been down that river in 20 years, and I doubt if I'll ever do it again.
But I wonder if it has become a bad scene down there.

She must have been asleep. I haven't been there in almost 12 years and it was bad then.
It's not a bad scene at all. I was there about 1 1/2 months ago. Of course there are people floating down the river drinking, but I really didn't see anyone getting crazy or anything. There were even a few families with kids. It's not something I would do all the time, but only because floating for 4 hours gets old fast!
It's a lazy day beer drinkin, peeing in the river good time had by all kindof time!
I am a Wise county alumn that is living down in Austin and i went down it about a month ago, and I agree with Mary Mack. It is a pretty laid back atmosphere. They tried to outlow beer bongs, but people are using palm leaves shaped into a funnel instead. Pretty comical the first time that I saw it.
It is too much fun!!!! I don't think it is bad but I kind of like to have a good time myself. For the most part you float with your group occasionally passing another.
Yes, it's bad. Drunks, nudity, urine and fecal matter and trash.
so it compares to the Wise County Reunion?
Haven't floated it for 20 years but it was lots of fun then. May I ask what a beer bong is? Maybe we ought to arrange a float down the Trinity thru Bridgeport. Wouldn't that be fun?
A beer bong is usually a funnel with a big hose coming off of it.
OOOOO-WEEEE
