What Am I Looking At?

A guy with Wise County ties posted these pictures taken near Odessa on Facebook with the caption of "nauseating".

stacked rigs. not working.

Those are all drilling rigs owned by a company called Helmerich & Payne. That is their yard in Odessa,TX.

They are not going to drill until the price of oil goes up.

I saw the same thing in south texas last week. The construction industry is about to get a lot of GC's and subcontractors back...

Idle rigs and unemployment. I am buying the hedge USO and looking for a recovery. Prices are falling again today. They have no more storage for what they are pumping.

Is he nauseated because he is an enviro-nut and thinks that these are active rigs? Or is he nauseated because these rigs are sitting idle?

Lord, just give me one more oil boom and I promise not to piss it away....

Headed for the pawn show today.

I'm guessing he overspent on various redneck status items that he can't eat, and is now wondering how long his job is gonna last. Silly folks who always forget the oil booms go bust.

There's the problem with extractive industries. They run out of material or out of customers. Those dependent on them better be prepared for change. Whatcha think, Wise County boom/busters?

I have no sympathy for any oil field trash or Devon guy who left a profession or never went to college and now wonder why they can't make a house payment.

Anonymous said...

He is nauseated because he is in Odessa.

Anonymous said...

They dnt have to make house payments.
They already paid for them. Lol. Haha.

10:44 People go where the work is. With manufacturing all but dead in the US, oil field jobs were/are some of the best paying jobs a blue collar guy can hope for. Colleges are certificate mills, with looming student loan debt being the next financial bubble. There aren't enough jobs for current degree holders, much less recent high school graduates, 40% of whom are enrolling in colleges, largely financed with debt. ROI on student loan financed education is negative for most graduates. If you can't find sympathy for a working man out of a job, who gets your sympathy? The St@rbucks barrista with a degree in art appreciation? DH

I don't feel sorry for those assholes; they've raping the public since GW Bush got into office.

all the oilfield construction companies in Bridgeport are shutting down, laying off all their employees.

Don't worry. The regime is setting up the taxpayers to bail out the student loan bubble on the horizon. Our illustrious "pen and phone" moron is already eye-balling "executive action" for easing bankruptcy regulations on the now NATIONALIZED student loan program. Everyone remembers when that was taken over by the fed don't ya'll?

Ya'll be full of sheep-dip as a group. Did you ever notice how little boys like to play with the Tonka toys in the sand box? now these guys are mid 20 to mid 40 and if they aren't complete brain dead they are supervisors. supervisors in coil tubing work 2 out of every 3 weeks and make 200K to 270K a year. Those poor dumb bastards. Now they'll have to set on their azz or something along those lines for awhile till the price of oil stabilizes and rebounds. Maybe a couple of years, maybe a couple months, or maybe just 1 international. The price of oil will rise again. incident.

The condition of the road and all that trash does make me ill.

The real fear should be how can these laid of oil field workers be able to pay their lawyer bills??

Anonymous said...

They used to call it "stacking rigs" and they laid them on their sides. Now there are so many rigs they have to stand them up to fit them all in the yard. Sad, very sad...

I'm one of the Devon guys and I haven't had a house payment or a car payment in 15 years! You have some that blow all the money and some that don't like me. I could prolly write a personal check to pay off your house if you want to move on. oil field has been good to my family for 36 years so I think I know what I'm doing when it comes to finances

Anonymous said...

3:13 I accept your offer to "move on". My payoff is $157,000. When do you want to deliver that personal check big'un.

Where is the house 4:51 Put up or shut up

The prison here in Bridgeport opened just in time once when the oil when south . Nighbor went there and got job. Not as much as Devon but he's still there. About all he was good for anyway.
11:09 There is a damn site more unpaid for houses with a yard and driveway full of toys than there are clear ones.

The one question that keeps coming in my head is "why does the government continue to buy oil overseas instead of keeping our fellow Americans working"? We should be oil independent by now if it wasn't for Obama. The U.S. imports 9 million barrels of oil per day of petroleum products. Of that 80% is imported Crude oil. Tell me this system isn't screwed up. Just keep making those ragheads richer!!!
