The Campaign For DA

Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • There was a WBAP reporter who was injured in a car accident in Wise County in December. He will be released from the hospital, finally, this week. (Facebook link.)
  • I got curious about the origin of the bathroom sign that says "Employees must wash hands". I might have spent 10 minutes on Google looking for the source but couldn't find it (which I think is amazing.) I saw some reference to an OSHA regulation but nothing definitive.
  • My mind is blown about the video of the Oklahoma fraternity caught engaging in a racist chant.  This is 2015 and those guys were smart enough to get admitted to OU.  The fraternity has been suspended in record time.
  • Never have thought much of the frat boy.
  • An early edition of the Dallas Morning News over the weekend might cost someone their job.
  • Sports: (1) Yu Darvish is done and so are the Rangers, (2) It's looking more and more like Dirk is done. His last three productive years were wasted, (3) The Miami Dolphins will rue the day they signed Ndamukong Suh to a $114 million contract with $60 million guaranteed. Just ask the Redskins about Albert Haynesworth who they paid $41 million in guaranteed money and got squat in return, (4) I've never been to the state basketball tournament but Bridgeport's appearance makes me want to go. I started thinking about a trip to Austin and then discovered they've moved the tournament to San Antonio.
  • I think Mrs. LL may have bought into the conspiracy theory about the Malaysian jet that disappeared one year ago. I just didn't have the energy last night to explore it.
  • There's a 22 year old from Alvord in the obits in the Update. Anyone?
  • The death of Terry Dorsey was particularly sad because he only retired two months ago.  To work that long and not get to enjoy the benefits. But that is the concept of mindfulness: Don't get caught up in the past and don't dream excessively about the future -- concentrate on the now
  • I threw the softball with the Sixth Grader In The House this weekend. One of life's great joys.
  • I'm confused. John Wiley Price gets a court appointed lawyer in his federal court case but has to contribute $80,000 for part of the fees? Maybe I'm focusing on the wrong thing, but a court appointed defense lawyer in one federal case will get paid in excess of $80,000? You kidding me?
  • The site that I get the screen shot of newspapers is down this morning.

Having the smarts to get into a university does not mean you have common sense- or human decency. Good riddance to that fraternity.

Congrats to the Bulls basketball team! Don't let the negative comments get you down. See you in San Antonio. Go Bulls!

I don't know why I get so much satisfaction from those frat boys getting kicked out of their stupid frat, but I do love it!

You just know that their conservative, okie-bubba Dad's are pissed. "Freedom of speech! This is 'Merica! How dare you kick my son, Kyle Word Jr., out of his all boys club club!"

Maybe those frat boys saw blacks using that word and thought it was OK?

Still not as bad as Jamie Fox saying he enjoyed filming Django Unchained because he gets to kill lots of white people.

Employers are actually allowed to set rules for employees, such as washing hands. Not every rule a business sets comes from government, or has to. I'm sure though, there are some that consider it a restriction of personal freedoms not to be able to anonymously distribute traces of their fecal remnants to others.

The Paula Deen rule is in effect. All of those fraternity chanters will now be forbidden from gainful employment for the rest of their lives.

Hey Bu...

I've known you a long time, and you don't strike me as the frat boy type personality, but that's okay. It just left more spots for the really cool, good lookin' guys to take, like me.

Sorry, I got to go. The CEO needs to me to handle a call for him with the President. Yea, THAT President. I love me.

If you were in my college biology classes where we grew bacteria cultures from samples taken from bathroom door handles you would understand the rule. After that lesson I ceased touching bathroom door handles and used paper towels to grasp the handle and open the doors. Then the idiot store owners expect me to touch the trash can lid in order to open it and throw the used towel in. No way, it ends up on the floor. I prefer bathrooms without doors and sinks that turn the water on with proximity sensors. The bacteria is on the sink handles so after washing your hands you pick up bacteria when you turn the water off. Leave it running or use a clean paper towel to turn it off.

Paranoia much? Or are you just an idiot?

So we have officially allowed our government to ban a word in direct violation of our constitution. Oh, and just to add idiocy on top of stupidity we only banned the word for a certain group of people.

Slippery doesn't begin to describe this slope.

I believe the hand washing sign stems from the OSH act of 1970. OSHA continues to update it's regulations yearly.

Please tell me what word our government has officially banned.

Speaking with experience...don't retire until you are about to die or just work until you die. There is no useful life have retirement unless you have lots of money and you have had a great hobby during your working career. Even if you think that won't be your case...your body may not be able to do what you wanted to do. Bottom line...slow down and enjoy the here & now before you die.

9:53 is on the right track, but as someone else has pointed out, you shouldn't confine your disdain for touching common objects to the restroom. And if you think he's being paranoid, just watch for the guys coming out of the stall and rushing (they always exit quickly!) right past the wash station.
I am constantly mindful of how I handle my food in public and having to touch common objects: door handles, chairs, keypads, etc. I also take care not to touch my eyes, mouth, or nose with my bare hands

Although I'm not sure how his plan to reduce regulation by requiring (by regulation) a sign warning customers that employees do NOT wash their hands would create a smaller government.

Although your desk may harbor more bacteria than the average bathroom, I for one am not a fan of touching a hundred dicks when I open a bathroom door. 9:53 gives you the proper technique to avoid said touching of numerous of anonymous dicks. It always cracks me up when the guy hauls ass out of the bathroom without washing thinking "my dick is clean" but he just touched all the dicks of the guys who think the same.

E. Coli cannot survive on dry surfaces. But sink handles are not dry surfaces and door handles have just been touched by the guy who rushed out with feces on his hand (visible or not).

Did you ever notice the large pile of paper towels beside the trash can at the exit door of a public bathroom? Maybe someday the store manager will understand that he needs an open top trash container there.

I assume that there is now building codes that attempt to eliminate these doors. Thanks to Lowes for a sanitary bathroom.

There is no conspiracy involving Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

...I worked for Boeing for 20 years as an engineer improving the reliability of the electronics of all Boeing aircraft including the 777. ...Personally, I like the explanation given by zetatalk. ...Their explanation is that Planet X caused an electromagnetic pulse in the area where flight MH370 was causing the electrical system to be knocked out. This may sound far out. But when you begin to understand how the earth's magnetosphere is now being affected by Planet X, such an explanation does have some possibility and even merit.--http://www.zetatalk.com/newsletr/issue392.htm

Invention: Hand sanitizer with motion detector and alarm:

When leaving a doorless restroom a motion detector will detect a person moving in the out direction only, where he or she must use the hand sanitizer, otherwise an alarm will sound and a red light will flash above the exit alerting the entire store or restaurant.

The housing of said hand sanitizer with built-in motion detector will dispense sanitizer solutions of various ethanol-based mists, gels, and sprays, and oregano oil mists, gels, and sprays, not to the inclusion or exclusion of other sanitizer solutions, or the use of ultra-violet light.

I go to the State Basketball tournament every year and have for the last 8 straight years. It's great basketball every year. The teams that make it year in and year out either have really great programs, or "cheat" in some way to get there. I use "cheat" in quotes because inner city schools that allow open enrollment have a huge advantage over other smaller market schools talent-wise and while it's legal, its "cheating" if you ask me. So Bridgeport using home schooled transfer students is a way to counter this and is another form of "cheating". Dallas Madison beat Triple A Academy to get to State, both open enrollment schools. Now Madison will play Bridgeport to see who can cheat the best. Should be a great game and I'll enjoy it, along with all the other games that have the same story lines in the other divisions. Welcome to sports in Texas.

The Family and boys I am surely looked at all schools in and around Wise County and the DFW area before they chose BHS. I mean what does Bridgeport offer? They have to be in a public school for a period of time prior to becoming eligible for D1 or D2 basketball. I really don't see how this is cheating. Is it just that they didn't choose the school or town you live in? I am thinking that Bridgeport's AD or Admin are not responsible for bringing them to Bridgeport.

Sometimes you have to control the ignorant with building codes. A building code that prevents or reduces illness by keeping your feces off of other people's hands is reasonable.

Anonymous said...

They have property in several places around Texas and the USA. They were in Flower Mound. Don't get me wrong. BP is an OK place, but doesn't compare to some of the other areas that they could have chosen. Could it be that BP was the only place that would let them do as they wanted? After all, everyone know that BP has no ethics when it comes to sports. And what does this say to the younger, local boys and girls in the schools about working hard? It says, you can warm the bench, but we are going to bring in the semi-pros for the trophy. Buy or steal a trophy is OK with them. I bet something will be investigated about this situation in the near future.

Hey 8:33

You ain't seen nothing yet! If the Alvoid school board's house builder gets his candidate elected, he will have four lap dogs to vote to run off the girls coach who was one game short of the regional tourny. Why you ask? Because his running buddies don't like how much playing time their freshman daughters get on the varsity team. If there is a school looking for a basketball coach who has taken teams to the state tournament, there will be one available if Wood gets beat in the election. And this comes from the running buddy who works at Devon!

Anonymous said...

If Bridgeport wins it will Always have a * or ( ) by their name due to the move in players. If my child was having to set on the bench due to this I would pull the off the team..

Anonymous said...

Didn't they just run off coaches for that last year or so?

Anonymous said...

Hey 9:27
Get your facts straight and stop trying to stir the pot. For the record, AlvoRd lost great coaches last year because of the same thing your speaking of. Only thing is, it was Woods and his running buddies that were at the root of it. So, you are either disgusted by both sides of this argument or you're a hypocrite. And, no, I have no dog in this fight. I'm just fed up with people trying to cause problems.

Your either smoking something or your one of the spouses of the idiots that started the entire mess last year. All Wood tried to do was support his supt. and stand up for ALL of the employees of the district. But since you are obviously on the side trying to get a man elected who has a history of running out on kids, this is the kind of response I would expect from your group.
