Wow

The lady in the photo celebrating the new "Share The Road" sign in 2008 has been killed by a motorist on Monday in Palo Pinto County by a vehicle which struck her bike from behind.

This follows an avid Wise County Courthouse cycling enthusiast who posted to Facebook last weekend:

"PSA......To the driver who almost took me out on my bike at 60 per on FM 730...I'm a father with a wife and three kids.... So not slowing down over a hill is stupid and your breakfast burrito or diet coke or whatever is not as important as that. God loves you! ( I so do not want to say that) Please to everyone else just slow down a little bit it will only take about thirty seconds or less out of your day compared to the severe loss possible."

With all due respect - if you have alot to live or, such as a wife and three kids, why would you risk your life by riding a bike would on FM 730?

I hope for his family's sake he has good life insurance.

To answer 3:38's question..... Arrogance.

Go to Google maps and look at how dangerous this stretch of roadway is for a cyclist. The western most end of the Brazos River Bridge on Hwy 180. I am so sad for this lady's family, but I'll never understand why you would take this kind of chance with your life.

Sucks when just about anyone dies.

BUT--most bikers and motorcyclists are douche bags that need to realize they;re "sharing" the road with bigger boys, and should drive accordingly. That includes making good decisions on when and where to ride--which they rarely do.

Also, to you motorcyclists--stay the hell out of the fast lane unless you're actually passing someone. I'll tailgate you too, and eff you for not moving over. If there's a car behind you, get out of its way.

F=ma. Laws of physics beat laws of man everytime.

Riding a bicycle on a narrow road with no shoulder is about as smart as pitching a tent on the train track.

I quit riding my pedaler on 730 long ago because it is so dangerous. I still ride the motorcycle because I live on that road, and at least I can keep up in terms of speed w/ the cars and trucks, but it is sometimes scary.

What was her point in making a tadoo about the roads anyway?

Bicycles are already allowed on roadways.

Bicycles should stay off the roadways. They are a hazard. Go ride in a park.

Cyclist don't seem to know that most drivers are drunk, distracted, half blind, texting, bored, tending to kids etc etc etc. Natural selection will sort this out. Whomever has the most and biggest lug nuts will win. Law of the traffic accident...

I will top a hill at the speed limit..if there is an idiot standing or biking on the roadway after I top the hill..well I will probably hit them..so sorry..but that's life

To all of you saying cyclists should stay off the road, you are wrong. They have just as much right to be on the road as you do in your gas guzzling SUV. Maybe you should watch out.

I will not put down my phone for you so get out off my way.

It's legal to stick your Wanger in a meat grinder but that don't make it smart.

I am an avid cyclist. I would NEVER ride on 730.

I guess I misunderstood something. I thought bicyclist were supposed to abide by all the same laws as vehicles. Does that NOT apply to the MINIMUM speed limits as well? I think minimum speed limits were also established for safety reasons.

My gas guzzling SUV pays road and fuel taxes that pay for maintenance and development on that road so all our gas guzzling automobiles can travel safely for the sake of commerce and recreation. Your BS little pu**y-pedaler don't pay squat. Get your spandex-wearing a** out of the way.

I understand you are upset but are you sure you want to challenge a SUV with your bicycle?

They may have just as much right, but they have a lot less steel.

No one with any intelligence would ever ride a bicycle down a highway for recreation.

WOW, what a bunch of idiots! Even in jest you show that Wise County is totally lacking any knowledge.

You can't out run my bike, and I may not be able to do anything right then but I can sure as hell follow your sorry ass to your trailer and come back later.

And for all you guys with your "big" trucks, Sorry about your penis.

WE DONT NEED NO FAIRY BICYLCLERS WE GOT BIG GAS GUZZLIN TRUCKS AND GUNS AND JEEZUS!!!

Why can't we all just get along?

PSA...To the biker that I encountered over the hill on 730, while I was driving the legal speed limit and observing all traffic laws. When I swerved into the other lane to avoid you, I barely missed a head-on with a minivan carrying a womman and her three kids. I too have a family and care deeply for them and other's lives. Your arrogance, or at least poor planning, placed you on a road with an inadequate shoulder to accomodate your hobby and simultaniuosly be used the vehicles that subsidize and were the intended users. Your selfishness could have cost the family in the minivan, my family, and possibly, through your proximity to the collision, your family, loss of something more precious than your "right" to be on that road. So please, if you have the luxury of the extra time to ride a bicycle, take the extra thiry seconds or less out of your day to plan a route that is safe for you and those that safely use the road to actually get somewhere important.

I quit biking in Wise County. All you Wise County fat ass ya-hoos have a problem with fitness. Makes you feel better about yourself to look down on people that exercise. Yes, I'll go bike where it's safe without some dumb ass tank truck driver swerving at me and bleeding off his brakes.

Oh, and anybody that would have a self proclaimed name of "Rage" is a dumb ass too.

And, biking on 730 is stupid.

SO GET YOUR ASS OFF THE HIGHWAY! THIS IS NOT EUROPE.

So get out there on the road on your bike and roll the dice!

WOW! All of you are just just Sad....730 is dangerous but really it should not be with a little human compassion. I never ride 730 either but that is no excuse to kill someone on a bike....is it?

Anonymous said...

WOW! This just confirms what I have always thought about the driving public. When Christian Church going humans (or any other human) gets in a vehicle, they transform into beast on wheels. Something about the anominity of getting in a car. They are capable of just about anything. Kind of like posting anonymously on a blog. But a lot of time it brings out the true personality of the individual. Please fight this apparent human response. People’s lives depend on it.

Could care less. The lady created a situation that was dangerous by riding on that road anyway.

Don't stick your hand in a fire and don't expect to get burned because you will.

Most of you sound fat.

If I am driving down FM 730 and there is a cyclist on my right and a rock truck on my left that cyclist is dead

Anonymous said...

Is it just me or do bowel shaking earthquakes of doubt and remorse also asaile and rail you with monster truck force?

Anonymous said...

That is exactly the point....(659 am) slow down for a second and you will not get into that situation. It is not the bikers fault, your fault or the rock haulers fault...just use your head and everyone gets out of that situation to get a sausage biscuit and a cup of tea.
